ARMA Scoring System....

Yeah, damn right they should fix the scoring system. As somebody also said earlier, they should also award points to encourage team play (although this is done to some extent already).

i cain someone on CS:S for 94 damage and then someone else finishes them off, do i get a point? no.

if anyone tried to change the scoring system on CS:S there would be more FUDing spam on steam forums that porno hits on google

so why should ArmA be any different?

besides, if someone got a repair truck out and fixed it; then what would happen then? not to sound like a BHD sap sucker but "secure the crash site"

IMO we should have a points system in ArmA, a working one too.

Im not an expert, but can't BIS make the point system an option? maybe in the server.cfg or somewhere along those lines? allowing you to enable/disable it?

Even if you play as a team or in a clan. Its still a good laugh to say "I got more points than you". Some people like to have a break from coops once in a while, and kick the crap out of eachother biggrin_o.gif whats wrong with that?

This is a GAME! not real life, if you want real life join the army or even wait for VBS2.

If you don't like the points system don't use it, its that simple! no body forces anyone to press "i" and bring up the scores, do they?

Mandrake5 is completely right imo...

Remember the more versatile ArmA is, the bigger the community grows. Before you say... "Yeh more rambos" Yeh maybe, maybe not. If you don't like all the rambos out there, join a clan. Then you can play as a team as much as you like, on a passworded server. Some people might come from BF2 looking to get into ArmA, hoping for the same sort of game. Once they play there CTF, DM, CTI maps (with a working score system) how do you know they wont turn into a very good teamplayer after playing in a few coop matches?? ArmA scares alot of people because of how complicated it comes across. Maybe if people play what there use to (CTF, DM, CTI) then go deeper and try a coop, they will play ArmA for many years to come yay.gif

Although i would like the point system to be fixed, it is however not a priority. Fix the main bugs then hopefully BIS can fix the score system banghead.gif

I am totally with Snake on his opinion, You get aload of people saying "Blah Blah your playing the wrong game if you want points blah blah" GET REAL...

There ain't no reason why it can't be both ways!

Games are for everyone...If you want the point system to disappear wait for WGL if its released or don't press "I".

The people who said the original poster was "Stupid" you need to get a life and think of others.

Games can and should be for everyone...

From BF2, AA, WoW, OFP, Halo whatever even new comers to the PC gaming world...

And like snake said most people that play this figure out rambo-ish-ness don't last to long so they play as a team and get used to it, they find the depth of the game fun...

If not they stop playing...

So to all you asses that say the original poster is stupid...

GET a life and get real...This game ain't just for you BIATCH...

I am new to the forums but not to gaming. And this is my 2 cents worth.

Scoring system in ArmA? nope there should not be one

Gaining Rank should be simular to RL i.e. (and remembering its a game)

Time spent in Game (not just rock in for a week and be a Major etc)

Time spent in Combat Zones (not just kill people/AIs)

Time spent working as a Team Member in different Roles (Leader, Gunner etc)

Now I have no idea how they would make that work, but with a system like that, the players who put the EFFORT IN reap the rewards.

Its all about experiance and Team Work. Man I have fun just dieing in a chopper with a full load, because I died with my TEAM!! LOL (ya sick I know)

This also means that a player who cant shoot the side of a Barn Door still gets to enjoy the game as a tatician as he raises in rank etc.

But thats just my thoughts  smile_o.gif

OOPS: Just realised that I am not in the Multiplayer Forum LOL

I was thinking Multiplay when I wrote this :P soz

So you blast off my tail rotor... and it's going to be difficult to land but easy to fly... now all I have to do is go out to sea for a while to deny you of points before I risk landing. Timers are easily broken too.

True, but its a start, and it would solve most of the problems. I would have to say that if a pilot can manage to handle his badly damaged aircraft that well he should be able to keep his attacker from obtaining his kill.

I think that the system they have in il2 is a good one. If you do major damage to an aircraft it is chalked up as a kill when the player lands to respawn. In this case, it could be chalked up as a kill if it crashes, crash-lands, or is abandoned. I think you should get a kill everytime someone is forced to abandon a vehicle above a certain damage level, or if it is destroyed, if you have the last hits on it.

Points are a useful measure for scaling rewards to players a la the rank system in evolution.

I reckon... it should be an option to the mission makers to have it on or off. All problems solved... like in the description.ext

DisplayScore = 0 = score false

DisplayScore = 1 = score true

and maybe...

DisplayScore = 2 = score true w/ damage ratios like maybe something that includes the problem at hand.

DisplayScore = 3 = score true w/ damage percentages

DisplayScore = 4 = score false until very end of mission tounge2.gif

I think timers, last hit, etc are poor indicators of real achievement. Also I think there is a place for scoring inside ArmA, my problem is just how it's used. In a game of evolution a player with 35 kills, 99 deaths, and an average lifetime of 2.5 minutes has a higher score than a player with 28 kills, 3 deaths and 20 minutes per life.

In the simplest case, the player that provided the majority of the damage should get the points.

More complicated methods award points for "mobility kills" as well as total kills and also divvy up multi-point items to the top damagers of the target.

Say a tank was worth 10 points, the guy who damaged it 80% gets 8 pts and the guy that finished it off gets 2.

I think that scores (kills etc) shouldnt be displayed until the end of a round anyway..

We all have a nice handy indicator showing us whether the enemy sillhouette we shot at (and thought we hit) scored a 'kill' or not. This is especially true when playing CTI etc (or PvP). Either it comes up with a message to say x was killed by y - or your score goes up by one.

I would prefer the unknown if you cant fully see your "kill" - at least until the end of the round.

"I think I got him" mightn't be good enough in future.. smile_o.gif

Hallelujah! Exactly, for some missions, scoring points is an ESSENTIAL element of gameplay. If you don't understand this, go play Evolution (IMO the best, most immersive ARMA experience to date) for a few weeks then get back to us. Or don't.

This is what I mean by 'pro rata'. You get points proportional to the damage you inflict on the target.

Great to see a few other people want the scoring fixed also. Had almost given up on this thread -- seems to be a lot of delusional people out there who want to pretend ARMA isnt a game nener.gif

If some meaningless numbers in a computer game are really that important to your ego, keep your own tally and let others know how many kills you really got every now and then. Or perhaps just uninstall the game and rethink your life.

In my opinnion, scores only encourage exploiting the system and doing stupid stuff, such as having no discipline of fire in coops and thus fucking up the mission, destroying empty vehicles, "camping" in a way that doesn't help the team at all etc.

BIS put it in for a reason, its up to you whether or not your want to use the scoring system. If you don't want to use the scoring system why post?

I can't see the scoring system being removed anyways so to the people that don't like it, DEAL WITH IT!

The main reason why Mandrake5 created this post was to get everyones opinion on how BIS can fix/improve the current score system. Am i right or wrong?

I don't remember reading anywhere on hes post saying he wants to completely remove it!

most people need to get a life, ArmA is a game, and a game it will stay.

As for myself, I like to see my score at the end of the mission, even though i have a clan, we all play as a team, as one.

If people want to go around killing as many things as possible and dying every 2mins, let them! Their the ones who everyone will laugh at the end of the mission with a score of 100 points and 100 deaths.

Evolution is a great mission, and the guy that made it done a great job. Although i can't play that 24/7 like most people do lol.

He's just shown us a little of what we can achieve, by using the scoring system.

If you don't have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything at all. Simple as!

Some people play games to win!

Personally I like teamwork and playing coops as best I can.

But like Snake I like to see my score so I can have a laugh about it with friends...thats friends you might not have many with that attitude...you probably just have "War Buddys"...

For all of you that say score system is fine or should be removed yadayada...

Why not have multiple options so your own selfish needs are catered for as well as people that like things done a different way?

As Snake said these ideas will never get put to motion by BI but it really grinds my biscuits that there are so many selfish people out there....

Yes the scoring system does need some refining.. im also sure i get negative points sometimes while destroying friendly vehicles which are are inhabited by the enemy.. But maybe im just hallucinating lol.

But it definately needs some improvement on the already raised points.

Yeh its some what annoying, when i was playing on berzerk one time i took a stinger and was not far from the ammo crates so anyway over the period of the game i musta took out about 10 or so enemy aircraft, but didnt get a single point for any of them. Im not all that borthered tho but it would be nice to have 10 enemy air kills on the scoreboard lol. smile_o.gif

If you (or someone on your team) enters an enemy vehicle, the ownership changes so if you (or someone on your team) destroys that vehicle, you get minus points.

I agree with OP btw.
