shataan 1 Posted February 17, 2002 I watched Apacolypse Now Redux last night, and IMHO the weap sounds in the "Godlier than Thou" Satchel addon mimiced what I heard in the movie for weap sounds. I hope BIS tries this out and this gives them a good indication on how the sounds for any future product should/could be done. For that matter, hire Satchel. Simple solution. Assault (CAN) 1 Posted February 18, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I watched Apacolypse Now Redux last night<span id='postcolor'> Awesome f*cking movie!!! It was a bit long though, watching it versus the regular movie is like seeing 2 different movies..... Man, I LOVE that movie. Anyways, as most people know, movies use blank rounds for their weapons. Blanks have a different sound than real ammunition, don't forget that the bullet also makes a sound as it slices through the air at supersonic speeds. I fired the real thing before and the M-16 sounds a hell of alot beter than it did before. Tyler
BloodHound87-USMC- 1 Posted February 18, 2002 One bug I found, ill tell you in a sec, first off, to everyone: Dont listen to Mofo, try this soundpack ,reinstalling is no big deal unless you FORGET to backup your addons and MPmissions folder, which sometimes can get lost. Otherwise..Great job Satchel, this guy must have a hardware prob, I have an SBlive soundcard, had no problems with the sounds, all were very realistic and well done. I did play a mission last night with my squad that wouldnt load and crashed us all with the new sound file installed, when we replaced our original cpp in the Bin folder, the mission loaded fine. The pbo was titled MFR CTF Everon.Eden.pbo. Its a CTF map with many helo's, Hinds,Apaches, Chinooks,Kiowa, and vehicles like Bmp2's, T72's, M1's, BRMD's, Bradley's...maybe you didnt replace a sound for one of the vehicles or something, cause all the other maps I tried worked fine, just this one with many different helos and vehicles wouldnt load up.... Anyway..keep up the good work..all of us in the OFP community really appreciate all your hard work..Thks...
Satchel 0 Posted February 19, 2002 Hi, the forum was down everytime i tried, so there were no updates on Sunday evening as promised. There are quite a few issues i´m trying to solve now, thanks to the continuous feedback coming in via e-mails and forum threads, that help pointing me to important issues. But everyone should be aware that i can´t guarantee the soundmod to be compatible to every single addon existing ( no Mod/Addon author can),  there are dozens of addons out there colliding with each other or causing problems of their own, even when used as the only addon. Of course the soundmod is no exception, there are some  issues with Dynamic Range, and all should be aware that by installing unofficial addons you are always endangering the correct function of OFP, what must not necessary happen, but is likely considering the sheer mass of addons available. The thing i´m really working hard on, is to make sure the soundmod works with your basic OFP installation without causing problems. The way the soundmod is provided is furthermore not the optimal format for the broad mass, as an important file is unencryptet. Although this file is almost everywhere available, the popularity of the soundmod helped to spread it. If i had been able to get it back into its original format, a recent debate would be non existent. This is generally a problem with replacements, that work different from true addons, which have all their config files in the addon folder, especially true for multiplayer concerns. Now the thing is a soundmod of this magnitude (in addition to replacing standard OFP sounds, it also adds many sounds to actions etc.) only works that way, as an addon it would be non functional to my best knowledge.  Ok, that´s enough about problems, i´m looking forward to bring you solutions. My e-mail account is basically exploding, and it takes a while to answer all e-mails, so don´t get mad if i don´t reply immediately, it takes some time till i get from top to bottom in the inbox .  There will be a complete update of the package in about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks ready, partially with replaced and updated sounds. An updated config file will be available shortly.
bugkill 7 Posted February 19, 2002 satchel, i really wish that BIS has taken the time to download this pack, so that they realize how much their sounds sucked!!! they should fire the guy (or maybe have you train him) who made the sounds for this game. it is like they only concentrated on the enviroment sounds and forgot about the warfare. i really have to give you credit on an absolute awesome job with this soundpack. i have been waiting for something like this for a awhile and you have made this game 100% better. i thank you for your time and hard work, it is greatly appreciated. Satchel 0 Posted February 19, 2002 Thanks Bugkill, but i think the reason why Bohemia Interactive did the sounds the way they did, is that they had a somewhat very resource effective design in mind, guaranteeing the most fluid operation possible, even on slower machines, so that they don´t become lagged by the audio portion. 256x256 px max. Texture Resolution is also a point that outlines resource effective design guidelines, most modern systems however superceed these standards and requirements by a fair amount. Of course there are also publishing deadlines playing into i assume, so they maybe had not the time to give Flashpoint the final polish they would have liked to by the time the deadline was set. I think that audio is as important as graphic in a computergame, as it can add immensively to immersion and athmosphere. In a computergame many natural senses can´t be simulated, you are extremely restricted in many attributes and regards, audio can compensate a bit for this, simulating and giving you a better impression of things you don´t see or feel, giving you better feedback and clues on whats going on around you in a realistical and believable manner. Sith 0 Posted February 19, 2002 Satchel: do you happen to use ICQ? I prefer to use it over email (or the forum) to keep eachother informed on any updates and stuff (news updates and file hosting). I added what I think is your account, but it has been awaiting authorization for quite some time now. Could you add me, or atleast let me know what account you're using? madmike 0 Posted February 19, 2002 I hate you satchel, you have destroyed my life, this soundpack is too good. Its the best addon for flashpoint. The first time I was fired at I heard that noise of bullets flying over me and hitting the ground, that scared the #### out of me. The new horn for the vehicles is good as well like the airhorn for the 5 tonner. I also heard the medic rustling around in his webbing and applying a bandage, I then heard my player moaning. I recommend that everybody tries the horn on the civvie cars Play ambush or battlefields and it will scare the shit out of you. Fairplay satchel you should contact BIS or any other game making to see if they are interested in paying you to do this work. 100% real thankyou
shataan 1 Posted February 20, 2002 hyas Satchel, I am finding out like the other dude here that my rain sounds are non existant. I sure hope you can figure out how to bring em back. thx. I love this addon totally.
Black Knight 0 Posted February 20, 2002 omg this is a MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! Â I just feel so sorry for those who have tried to download it and it didn't work for some reason. I have HWacc. enabled with some kick ass headphones and it's just something that cannot be explained. Hearing those bullets fly by your head.... oh shit!!! Those who have it, try this: From side "West", place a jeep with a MG anywhere on desert island. Place a east group some 100m away from you. Make sure you start near the jeep. When you start it up, try hiding behind the jeep. It is just the most amazing thing i ever heard!!!! Those bullets hitting the car and flesh of the guys that where in the car. If you place some more objects in there, try running around trying to hide behind them. It's just so cool!!! Really amazing sounds atleast for me. ; ) Thank you soooo much for this addon! It made OFP 5x better for me. I've been waiting for a long time for somthing like this to come out. I just hope Bis will try to improve the sounds for any of their next projects. sry for my english
FallenPaladin 0 Posted February 21, 2002 Really looking forward to downloading your mod! THANKS, Satchel!!! Hope BIS contacts you because of your skill and this mod.
Rowdy 1 Posted February 21, 2002 In The dynamic update i lost the firing sounds of rifles and people walking and shooting at me . Anyway i just deleted the file and was back to normal . #### it sure was worth the try .
Satchel 0 Posted February 21, 2002 Getting no sounds at all is most certainly related to an installation error; have you placed the DynamicRange.pbo in your /Addons folder?- it only works from there. Also be sure to use the config.cpp that came with the package and place it in your /bin folder, after you moved the original config.bin to a save place (backup). For proper operation of the new sounds no other config.cpp or config.bin should be in your /bin folder. An included readme.txt file explains how to install the package btw. Black Knight 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Best sound mod ever but i found some problems. 1) this SetDammage 1 Â Â doesn't work. 2) when a flare hits the ground it makes a granade inpact sound. plz look into these problems because i don't think i will be able to go back to the old sounds. Thanks again for making this great addon
Picklehammer -PP- 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Ever since I have installed the soundpack, when I host a game anyone who doesn't have it installed can't get in. It's fine for me joining other games. I heard there is a patch for the sound pack, is this what will fix my problem? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Konyak-2 0 Posted February 26, 2002 I find the most serious thing to fix is the sounds being heard all across the map. This is very noticable in tanks and helis, but also in gunshots. Try it. Go to Malden in editor, put a tank way down south, go to Houdan or even further north and you'll hear the tank as if it was less than half a mile away. Me, when I hear a tank, I start being very cautious, but like this, I figure it´s 5 miles away. Same goes for gunshots, when it carries so well, you get worried for little reason. If it can be fixed, it'd make behaviour in the game more appropriate for what you hear. Konyak
-76-Chavez 0 Posted February 26, 2002 The tank engine sounds pretty cool, but the shot is hardly hearable ;-) I like the sound of the infantry gear the most...
M-N-0N 0 Posted February 26, 2002 i like this sound mod alot ... only probs i have is the gun sounds ... they sound to much alike ... and most of the time i cant tell who is shooting till i see the color of the tracers ..... gets anoying realy ... especialy on non-cadet mode servers
warcommander_6 0 Posted February 26, 2002 Satchel, Great work on the MOD, it sure does add a great enhancement for the game. good job !! I was also wondering if you plan on any upgrades, is there anyway you can actually adjust the sounds from the M16 and AK-74,47, AKM's? in real there is a difference between the two, but i understand translating to game is difficult. If not possible, i still want to say great job on your sound mod!! thanks WC_6
TheRoach-45Cdo- 0 Posted March 1, 2002 I have to give OFP up now I have just installed the new 1.45 patch and the sound pack dont work with it I tryed one mission without it and I nearly cryed. Please Satchel tell me you can sort it.

Chris Death 0 Posted March 2, 2002 Do you guys really think, Satchel has created the sound-mod to only use it on 1.42? - I'm sure, he's actually hard workin (thank you Satchel) on a version, which can be used together with 1.45. btw - the setdammage together with the sound-mod works fine for me and others.
