Basic camouflage

Recommended Posts

I've planned to feature every BIS original faces. (the work will be long so do not expect a release soon)

I probably will release a .jpg set for MP custom face, but I need to know wich sizes I should aim since servers may reject too large custom file.

I wonder if it is possible to insert custom faces inside a campaign ? If yes I would considering providing an open source solution about hi-resolution face (1024*1024 .paa).

Sorry no full-colored chameleon skin!

I let the community handle that later by providing balaclava and ghillie suit unit.

Those camouflage faces are only intended for infantry units wich have to sneak a little during manoeuvre (ambush, scout, fire and duck mission).

Since stealth ability is less important than for infiltration/sabotage SF mission, their camouflage are also quite basic and light : 2 colors only, no paint on arms (if it does mind you, use units with long sleeves), no paint on neck, no paint on eyelids and ears... (because they know how annoying it is to remove this sticky sh*t)

Doesn't look too bad - but can you make some/most of the faces "smudgy"? When I was in the reserves, you often had only 30 seconds to throw some cam cream on by putting a finger in each of the 3 colours and smearing over your face / throat / ears as quickly as possible...

Only one guy ever did distinct lines / colours / paint half a face one colour, distinct black line across face, etc...and we thought he was a toss-bag rofl.gif

Oh yeah, and we always made sure we did the front of our lips too - nothing worse than cam cream surrounding two bright pink lips in the middle of your face! tounge2.gif

looking good!, to be fair there are many different styles of using cam cream, and yer slapping it on is the usual technique, but some regiments and units have their own pattern, such as the tiger stripe etc

p.s brits just have the slap it on technique maybe with some bigger patches etc :P

no we get some brown, spit in hand then smoother the whole face untill everywhere is brown and then we stripe the face with black and green.

i must admit we dont really bother to get face cream perfect, most of us went out on excersise with just the face and neck and a little on the sides of neck and ears.

Hi, i've made some custom camoed faces that may serve you to

get more ideas, to take sample colors or to take anything you want

from 'em. Most of the servers that i seen, had a max custom file

size of: 100Kb. But there are some others as restrictive as Zero,

Kb of custom file; keep the faces below 97Kb should allow you to

enter in most of the MP servers i think, using a 512x512 resolution

you can keep a good enough level of detail under the 100Kb limit.

Some camoed faces for free:

the tecnique swedish army teaches is...

cover your face with green, then put brown or black (darker color then the green) on cheeks, chin, nose, ears and forehead...

very simple and works ok...

though, many soldiers do their own painting as they like

I remember that in the beginning we put alot of time and  effort into some cool camo face jobs. But I ended up using only one color, either black or green cream, whichever I put my hand on first. Smeared over any visible skin. Basically any uncovered skin shines, so I thought it was more important to remove the shine, than to recreate a forrest in my face.

Anyways after a couple of sweaty hour's humping or digging, we just looked more like dirty homeless people than camouflaged soldiers.

Which raises an interesting question, can you have custom cfgmaterial defines for custom faces (to remove the 'shine' from the skin)? I know it wouldn't have much bearing as at a any range beyond 5m you can't see the 'shimmer' anyway, but it'd be a nice cosmetic (pardon the pun) effect.

The picture in the original post looks realistic. Assuming that

the SLA forces are Soviet/Russian trained what style would

their face painted camouflage actually likely be? I don't recall

seeing pictures of any Eastern bloc troops with face paint

on.

Is the modern warpaint resistant to water and sweat?

Our stuff was dark-brown coloured only. It came in a green

rubber bag thing like a balloon. You got a splat squeezed into

your hand and just globbed it on - in theory covering the

highlights on your fizzog. Ten minutes after you'd applied it,

it had inevitably run in streaks making your section look like a

warry version of Kiss. It gave us horrible spots too (or was

that just because of our burgeoning hormones)?

No spots were a real problem. After two weeks wet shaving with a razor would be sure to slice half a dozen zits off your face.
