plasman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Rumours about the deployment of international troops under the blue flag in Sahrani : I’m working on generic (no specific country) UN soldiers in olive drab uniforms. I just wanted to show you several screenshots of the Alpha version to seek some feedback from the forum. No release date yet, there is still a lot of work to do and some issues with the textures, the funniest one being that although the flashy blue helmets look fine in daylight they glow in the dark when night comes I also have several other problems to solve (folks on the forum might help me here) : 1/ I figured out (lots of trials and errors) how to edit the config files, skinning is no problem (I created myself some templates based on the RACS pilot’s skins), but I really don’t know how to edit the P3D files ? 2/ Do you know a good site where to easily upload mods ? (cannot send around 40 Mb by email). Thanks in advance for your help.
Shashman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 I have a rapidshare account. I can host your mod no problem if you wish Good idea. There was only one UN soldiers addon for OFP and it was ancient. Always wondered why nobody else thought about doing this.
mr burns 133 Posted March 12, 2007 We´ll put up mirrors as soon as the file got hosted elsewhere.. As for the addon: Are the helmets really that babyblue´ish? ... hm, guess so...poor guys. Maybe add some dirt to make ´em look more manly?
OIK 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Its easier too shoot them with these helmets .
sander 14 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi, That looks promising. Good to see some UN troops, I am working on some country specific (Dutch and Philippino) peacekeepers myself. To alter the texture paths in the P3D files you would need a hexadecimal editor, preferably one with basic text editing functions that would allow you to perform a replace all by using the CTRL + H combination. I’ve even seen some pictures of UN troops wearing light blue flack jackets (much like the AAN reporter in ArmA). I agree on the fact that my helmets are a bit too flashy (I need to add some dirt) but the basic colour is the right one indeed. Thanks for the link to Sander Btw guys if you have some links to pictures of UN troops do not hesitate to post them on this thread.
Sgt_Eversmann 1 Posted March 12, 2007 plasman edit the normal map of the helmet please. looks fucked up the way it is done now because it looks like a helm cover and a non existent helmstrap. just...strange

sander 14 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi, It is not necessary to edit the normal map. Many armies issue a blue cloth helmet cover for UN duties: Example of NL helmet cover for peacekeeping duties Other examples of UN duty covers can be found at the following location: Military helmet site Regards, Sander
plasman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Sander. Do you know which is the best (and easiest to use) hexadecimal editor ? Just for editing paths to textures ?

Gremling 0 Posted March 12, 2007 I loved playing around with the UN guys from OFP. Much appreciated that you're bringing this addon into the 21st century.
Shashman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Seeing as you're retexturing the infantry, have you thought about doing some UN retexs of some of the vehicles? BMP-2 M113 HMMWV Ural 5t truck Mi-17 These would be the best candidates imo. They're the ArmA vehicles which are used by the most countries

No, I'm concentrating only on the troops for the moment. Quote[/b] ]Shashman wrote : BMP-2 M113 HMMWV Ural 5t truck Mi-17 These would be the best candidates imo. Shashman 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Fair enough plasman. Perhaps it's something you could do when you've finished the infantry. I didn't include the Blackhawk as it's not one of those vehicles which spring to mind when I think of white UN vehicles. And yeah of course the Landie should be in that list

sander 14 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi, As a hexadecimal editor I use Hex Workshop 4.1. === For visual references for the blue helmets: UN DPKO photo page Sites of the individual missions tend to have photo pages as well. Other links of interest: UN documentation site on peacekeeping NIOD site on peacekeeping missions (in Dutch, but with pictures) Dutch peacekeeping site (in Dutch, but with pictures)

plasman 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Thanks to both of you Here is a teaser screenshots of the squad Auto rifleman and of the grenadier But for the moment I'm a bit stuck with hex editing. plasman 0 Posted March 13, 2007 Just a quick poll to forum members : would you like to see (some of the) UN troops wearing blue flackjackets (see herebelow pictures) in ArmA ? OK I guess we won't see many people choosing UN troops in multiplayer missions
