tommo1968 0 Posted January 18, 2007 I am currently playing Arma with a X850 PE and its running pretty nicely with most settings set to very high. My current driver is cat 6-12 but when i loaded the recent new drivers (7-1) the performance was very poor, even struggling when set to normal. Needless to say i have reloaded 6-12 drivers. I have the German version with the latest patch. If anyone has already listed this i am sorry, but it was a bit of a shock loosing all my pretty settings and getting choppy gameplay compared to what i had to start with. Cheers Paul.GB. Marines 0 Posted January 19, 2007 Nah, you're correct, mate. Do what I did and roll them back.
max power 21 Posted January 20, 2007 I was saying in a different thread that I use an x850 CE with the 7.1 drivers and the demo version 1.03.5116 and I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in speed between the two driver sets. Maybe it has something to do with the game version? I notice I still can't use crossfire in ArmA, though. :/ That is what I bought this rig for!! You'll probably be able to update your drivers for arma when they release that patch to coincide with the 505 distribution.

Yes plaintiff CF is still broken in ArmA(Even tho the big new feature this month was better forced AFR for games without proper opt. profiles) I can see now that it is as least "trying" to use CF(can see now both my cards temps going up) but the performance is as bad as the 6.12's and turning the AI up or anything else for that matter. TBH I only tested it on AI Adv. and test to see if it was running the same "ok" performance on Std., I have been too busy enjoying IL-2 46 with my Track IR and 8xSAA 16xAF fully cranked game settings and a 60fps avg. (like any other game I play heck even R6 Vegas runs pretty good)
sluggCDN 0 Posted January 22, 2007 7.1 drivers acted up on me too. But they also seemed to be having degrading effect on my system performance as whole starting with basic Windows applications. I have P4 3ghz HT, 3gb ddr ram, ATI X1600PRO 512mb AGP videocard. I had to roll the drivers back too. Now it's back to normal.
Pennywise 0 Posted January 22, 2007 Ok, I think we're beginnig to see a trend here. I have also had problems with the latests ATI drivers. They really screwed up my machine and i have also rolled them back. The new drivers screwed up my dual display setup and now I can't switch primary display without muking around with it. I also can not start ArmA with the new drivers. The program launches into the background and there is no window initialized with it. I opened a ticket at ATI regarding the issues I'm seeing. The new drivers are completely FUBAR.

With this rig, that game's graphics look like Toy Story 2, with the fps nailed to the refresh rate of the monitor in widescreen! I'm so eager to have the crossfire work on this rig for ArmA. bazooka_boy 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Whilst I'm sure you guys are correct in what you are seeing, I have an older ati card (9800xt) and I actually found things more stable, a very small fps improvement and it clear the 'artifacts' problem I was seeing on some textures
Rhodite 3 Posted January 23, 2007 Omega Drivers are worth a look gents if you have not already checked them out.
berghoff 11 Posted January 23, 2007 I've have them now too for a while, no problems and no change in performance.
max power 21 Posted January 23, 2007 Omega Drivers are worth a look gents if you have not already checked them out. I'm not sure what steps ahead the omega folks have made in the past couple of years but I would caution anyone from trying those drivers. You think some third party jerk is going to write better drivers than the professionals AMD and ATI combined? If they work great, the work great! If they don't, they don't... but try getting rid of them! In my experience, if you encounter a compatibility problem with the omega drivers, you will have them from that point onward whether you uninstall them or not and it may require a reformat of your hard drive to get rid of them! I'm not saying that it WILL happen, but it HAS happened.

OMEGA drivers are in fact official drivers + some little registry tweaks (and modded isntall .inf files) ... there are also NGO drivers but these guys modded in past several driver files for better perf (OpenGL related mainly) ... actually only NGO was able provide modded drivers with "difference" to better (like modded OpenGl driver in past) ... while all what OMEGA contain (IMHO) is same what i can "edit" myself in registry ... Jack-UK 0 Posted January 24, 2007 I have X1950 PRO 512mb tried the drivers which came with my card (6.12 i think...) and 7.1 no difference in FPS or anything... so i've kept them... Ive heard rumours that Omega drivers are hard to get rid of...? Dont quote me on that though Also SLI can be fooled into thinking ArmA is SLI enabled by renaming the game exe to fear.exe .... I dont know if this works with CF... Someone could try i guess?
