Demo Troubleshooting thread.

But when i run the demo i get an error saying I'm missing D3DX9_30.dll

Does this mean I don't have DirectX 9.0? How do I find out then fix it?

Is there anything more to the RPT file than that? If there is, just PM it to me.

Hello all.

I've got a question, I see lot's of people mensioning crashes, however mostly what I see on my pc is that I get a "shutdown..." message at the bottom left corner of the screen. I haven't seen anyone mention this shutdown message, are other having this as well. I occasionally get a full CTD, but the "shutdown" messages are for more common.

Thanks.

Downloaded the demo and was stuck with the following errors...........

A)"CANNOT FIND D3dX9_30.DLL"  or whatever....

SOLUTION....... downloaded directx 9c. (problem solved)

B) "CANNOT CREATE 3D DEVICE 75 HZ"   etc...etc

SOLUTION.........(for ATI folks)  changed my refresh rate to 60 hz (problem solved). Check the minimum specs for graphics cards. I'm using a Rad 9600 pro which is the bare minimum I believe.

The demo runs great.

Tried downloading from from both gameshell and fileplanet and getting same error on both.

Here is what it says when I try to install the demo

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1/silverguy82/AADemo.jpg

it shows this error and then stops installing

I had this same error and I didn't see any responses.  I solved this problem by using WinRar to unzip the download.  The WinXP unzip program would hang up - but seem to work after ending the program.  But it seems to only partially unzip the DL file, giving the error you show.

So: try an add on program such as: WinRar (worked for me), WinAce, or good old WinZip.

After that, I had to update my DirectX and the demo is running well so far.

My specs:

Celeron 3.2 Ghz

512 MB ram

Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT.

thanks man. that did solve the unzipping prob.... I got it to the D drive and when I try starting up the game this is the new problem it gives lol

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums....7113466

got absolutley no clue what is wrong now.

@Enigma

I've tried just about everything I could think of to get that glitch fixed. I think all you (we) can do is hold tight until official word comes through on it.

@Silverguy82

What are your system specs? Have you already tried the basics (updated DirectX, latest drivers, etc.)?

The only thing I can think of is that current vid card is not hacking it

I got latest version of Direct X

RAM is at 1.5 Gb's

and I got plenty of hardrive space

the current vid card I got is Video Card: ATI Radeonâ„¢ 9200 AGP 8X 3D Graphics Hardware Acceleration

but I'am going to be upgrading to a better vid card in the very near future.

Anyone else with Crossfire out there? Let me know if you can run the demo with crossfire turned on. My problem above was some kind of conflict between ArmA and Crossfire mode. The game runs fine under any graphics setting now as long as crossfire is off.

No problems except for the occasional CTD and when choosing weapons in Coop, sometimes they appear when you spawn and other times they don't which is frustrating when you only have 2 grenades and a pair of binoculars to win a war with.

@ Enigma...AVG is still working in the background with me.

This may have been reported in any of the 13 previous pages (is it possible to search, within a specific thread???) ...

A weird thing occurred during a COOP game:

- I joined the server when the mission was already running (= join-in-progress).

- All was well and I could join and play the mission

- At some point I was suddendly ... "transferred" into another players "body". I could see everything and switch view but I could not control the player.

The "actual" player still had control.

- When I typed text in the chat window it appeared as if it was written by the player whose "body" I was inside of. i.e. It didn't show "ALDEGA: yap yap yap", it showed "TheActualPlayers'Name: yap yap yap".

- My "own" player was still alive

- When I hit the ESCape key and clicked "respawn", my "own" player was killed. (as it is supposed to). No AI were left to respawn into, so I don't know what would have happened.

Hi remember me? I'm the guy running an ATI x850 xt pe with no graphic distortions.....

well for all you unlucky ATI people out there, I **might** have found a fix.....

I was tweaking my system as I usually do every now and then. Wohoo!

Anyway, I downloaded this freeware called Advance System Optimizer.

Had a play about, and I found an option not enabled called  "Enable Large system Cache" - I could'nt resist so I enabled it. Restarted the machine and tried to play Arma....

Well well well, as soon as the map loaded I had the exact same graphic distortions as all the previous screenshots showed.

I rebooted again just to make sure something else was'nt interfering, and the same distorted results.

Back into ASO and disabled it, and low and behold ArmA is back to no graphic distortions and plays fine (apart from CTD during weapon select and breifing)

So here's a possible fix for you guys, you might have ran a tweak program in the past and had no adverse effects. But I suggest downloading this program, and make sure the "Enable large system cache" is disabled.

If it is enabled, disabled it and try arma, hopefully you'll be able to play.

If it is already disabled, enable if, reboot, try arma, if you get the same graphic distortion, disabled it again and reboot and pray  notworthy.gif

Remember you have to reboot the machine to make sure its taken effect.

All I can say is goodluck!

And now the faults begin.....

1/ I would love to see either the ping or from which country the Host is located in as I'm sick of losing connection.

2/ To be able to kick players off as I've just encounted a kid(brat) spawn killing his own players.

3/ More accessible buildings as there are currently none! Quote:"New island containing large cities with many different, fully accessible buildings".....What? Did they mean there is a corridor you can walk through the building which is called "fully accessible"? I'd love to snipe/shoot off balconies and rooftops!

4/ Pilots to have better AI. But on a good point, I was sniping from the top of a tower thinking the AI would be too stupid to climb the ladder. Lo & Behold....I was shot in the back by the enemy who had climbed the tower. crazy_o.gif

Have this problem

Why dit you realise mp demo first? Why not SP first?

And like many more the game is crashing randomly. The .exe encountered a fault; crash to desktop

also weapon selection is really slow in demo and its laggy ass hell wane I finally kild same one?

Also think the crashing randomly have to do whit inboard sounds card the game last longer wane I turn

off hardware acceleration in sound settings off but its not solving the problem like in eve-online smile_o.gif

There some more but think that is having to whit my lack off skill

Complete computer noob question.

I've checked the minimum requirements, where it states that ATI Radeon 9500 with 128 MB of RAM & Pixel Shader 2.0 or better is the minimum for a graphics card

My card is a 9200 series, would it be below minimum requirements?

Sorry, I know it sounds dumb, but I have no idea how the listing works.

Also, what is Pixel Shader 2.0 ?

huh.gif

Yes your card is below the minimum requirement. Your card is a Pixel shader 1.4 and the requirements are 2.0.

@Silverguy82

Your video card doesn't match the minimum requirement. You need at least a ATi 9600 series video card w/ SM3.0 to run the game.

@KAOSInc

You can look at the player list (P by default) while in game to review their stats and kick/ban them.

the specs for my mother board are

Processor Speed: 3.0GHz with Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology

Processor Type: Intel® Pentium® 4 with 800MHz FSB

if you guys were in my shoes, which 1 would you get out of these 2 candidates?

Glad to see the Demo out. However having one thread for trouble shooting is really messy. Why not have a section so we can sort out the problems in sections like video, network and so on?

So I am having a network issue. I have looked at the FAQ and the Wikki which were of no help.

If I host a game there are no problems the game starts and shortly there are other players in the game and off we go. If I use the "game browser" AKA the GameSpy it's a different story. Some server I try to join I don't even connect and drop back to the game browser with some sort of connection error. From reading here in the forum that seems to mean I was joining a non-Demo server (again why I am even allowed to see these servers and why they are not automatically filtered is an oversight).

So I find a server that seems to let me connect. The first screen I see has all sorts of sections that look like they should have data regarding the players and teams but all the "boxes" in these sections are empty. The only things on the screen I can interact with is a Disconnect and a Join/OK button. Disconnect does what it should and takes me back to the Game Browser.

Also on this screen I see messages in the upper left that tell me which players are connecting, connected, disconnected, died, and once in a while I see a Global message from one of the players in the game. I use the "/" key to try and type messages which do show up on my screen but I am not sure the messages are being seen by the players.

So my last choice is to "Join". This will take me to some loading screens (sometimes) or else I go right to a receiving mission data screen which is all black with no progress bar and again I can see messages in the upper left corner just like the screen before. I wait and I wait. I have waited well over 10 minutes on this screen. With no indication that anything is going one. I do see my hard drive light going on and off so there is disk activity. Again I can type messages in the global channel and I have had conversations with others in game and others waiting for the game to load.

So now 95% of the time it just sits on this screen until I ALT-TAB out and kill the game via the Task Manager as trying to ESC out of the load screen does not work. The other 5% I move on to the loading data screen that looks EXACTLY the same as the screen before except the words have changed. Then MAYBE this will pass on to the game but most likely it just sits on this screen.

OK if I make it past those two screens the "game" goes something like this. I enter the game I can see my player model standing with rifle in hand and I have the message box telling me I am dead and a pithy quote to sooth my soul and the neato choices of Disconnect or some other option I don't remember (I have only seen this part like once or twice).

Then I somehow end up at the Mission briefing screen which has no mission text but I can see the names and pings of the other players and me in the far right side. I can even get to the screen that shows me the other gear avaliable but I am not able to change anything here. Going back to the screen I can choose to play or exit. If I choose play I can then see the topo map. Then often the cycle repeats where I join the game with my player model (looking very alive and GungHo with rifle in hand) but the message telling me I am dead, etc, etc. Then maybe after doing this fun loop about three times tops the game crashes to desk top with the usual send an error to Microsoft option.

So what to do? I have re-installed, turn off my firewall (though I hated to do it. AND why is the ports needed to run the game NOT listed in the FAQ or the Wikii??) with no change to the pattern.

As the game runs fine when I host the game I see no reason to list my specs as it's NOT a hardware issue of running the game. Something is hosed in the network side. I hope a patch is planned for the Demo as it is not making me want to buy the game.

Thanks for reading if you have read this.

You mean SM2.0 (DX 9.0)?

The rather old ATI9600 did not have SM3.0.

Correct, I slipped up.

From demo readme:

Quote[/b] ]Video Card: 128MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above, only Ati and Nvidia chipsets are supported (256 MB of memory recommended)
