CanisDEK 1 Posted December 4, 2006 I am pleased to announce the release of the Choppersound Patch v0.3This patch changes the volumes of the chopper sounds in Armed Assault (*) to a lower level, as many are annoyed by the current volumes. Please supply feedback! Please make sure that you do not have Hardware Acceleration enabled in the game, as there seems to be a bug that causes all sounds to be even louder! Please read the included readme and make a backup of your AddOns\air.pbo just incase to make sure Aswell as to be able to put it back incase of official patches etc. More Descent Installers and Patch mechanisms are on the way... Stay tuned! Packed as WinRAR SFX Archive (764kb) Download: MegaUpload.com Mirrors: ArmedAssault.info (Thanks to ofpforum) ArmaHolic.com (Thanks to Foxhound) ArmaMods.net (Thanks to SniperAndy) Armed-Assault-Zone.com (Thanks to JammyDodger) More mirrors kindly requested. This Patch is known to work with ArmA Versions: LANG: German, Czech GAMEVER: v1.0, v1.01 Version History: v0.3 - Fixed Modfolder method v0.2 - Added the ability to install it the modfolder way : ) v0.1 - Initial version; First sound volume tests; need feedback! FAQ: Quote[/b] ]Why don't you just release addons instead of patches??We are very sorry for the (minor) complexity of the installation, but we, as we are only fans just like you, wish to be on the safe side concerning Copyrights etc., nor want to piss off anyone, that's why we choose this road! Idea Games noted that distributing edited versions of official original ArmA game content, could result in lawsuits. Quote[/b] ]Can we use the LANG & Choppersound & Editorpatch at the same time/over eachother Yes, The Language Patcher, The Editorupdate Patcher and the Choppersound Patcher all have different pbo's that are changed. Quote[/b] ]How do I enable the modfolder, if I used the modfolder patcher?Add behind the armed assault shortcut: -mod=@6th-ChoppersoundIt should look like this, mind the quotes: “C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe†–mod=@6th-editorupdate If you have multiple mods, spread them with semicolon, e.g: –mod=@6th-Choppersound;@6thSense Here is an explaination for OFP, it works the same with ArmA, might help yah! TheAvonLady FAQ: The Avon Lady Hmmm but couldn't you just make the patcher copy the files needed to a mod folder and then modify them... so you don't have to actually distribute the files yourself? I have studied litterature, so sorry for any unintentional ignorance when it comes to programming
sickboy 13 Posted December 4, 2006 I've seen that the chopperpatch is many times downloaded at various places, i'm wondering what ppl think of it, as I haven't read a single response yet stating if it now is the way they like it or some chopper is still too loud or actually too less; I guess that's positive (Ppl on our servers seem to be pretty happy though ) Hmmm but couldn't you just make the patcher copy the files needed to a mod folder and then modify them... so you don't have to actually distribute the files yourself?I have studied litterature, so sorry for any unintentional ignorance when it comes to programming This package is a patcher, as it says, and includes 2 installers, either for the modfolder way or overwriting your original files incase you play on servers where the equalmod=1 is used. I have no idea how that's different from what you describe Ps Could you remove that unnececairy huge quote please? I almost felt of my chair when I saw it lol

general 0 Posted December 5, 2006 for me it's not the sound of the choppers, it's the sound of the tanks and the anoying fact that you can hear one chopper or tank across the entire island
sickboy 13 Posted December 5, 2006 for me it's not the sound of the choppers, it's the sound of the tanks and the anoying fact that you can hear one chopper or tank across the entire island turn off hardware accel, the choppers are way way too loud (except after the patch), but the tanks are at least a bit more OK. I'm making a tank patch hopefully very soon, probable release before the end of upcoming weekend.
ThePredator 0 Posted December 6, 2006 How does the modfolder-way work in regard to changing sounds? I'd like to make my own sound mod, but changing the original pbo is not the best solution.
max power 21 Posted December 7, 2006 If you make a mod folder, you can mimick the directory structure in the original installs.. for instance, if you want to modify the anims, you would make a folder structure: ..\ArmA\@ZOMGanims11onehundredand11elevne\dta\ in it you would place the modified anims.pbo ..\Arma\@ZOMGanims11onehundredand11elevne\dta\anims.pbo Then you would start the program with the switch detailed above: ArmA -mod=@ZOMGanims11onehundredand11elevne This will override the original ArmA anims.pbo file. It is the same with any other file. For your purpose, you would identify the original sounds pbo file, probably in : ..\ArmA\AddOns\sound.pbo Unpack it, replace the .wss sound files with ones you prefer, repack the pbo, then make a mod folder. Possibly like: ..\ArmA\@OMFGkablooiez0r\AddOns\sound.pbo To run it, and the theoretical anims mod, you would start the program with a switch like: ArmA -mod=@OMFGkablooiez0r;@ZOMGanims11onehundredand11elevne I use a launcher so my syntax may not be correct. Anyone who knows better can correct me.
ThePredator 0 Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks for the info. Can I rip the weapons.pbo? Only the changed contents in that pbo, not the whole bunch of files? The config.bin was changed, too. Does the pure add-on override the changed sounds/config, but still uses the original pbo in the addons folder?
RN Escobar 0 Posted December 11, 2006 if u go round altering weapons.pbo expect to get yourself kicked or banned from many servers somethings the community understands being modded, weapons isn't one of them, if i saw someone connect with a modded weapons.PBO, i'd think: "modded weapons, damn foolish cheater" #userlist, note down ID, add to ban list u may or may not be modding them for an advantage but i don't care, i'd rather have people with stock files on my server, unless i see them running a mod folder which i know contains a modded PBO. sickboy 13 Posted December 11, 2006 if u go round altering weapons.pbo expect to get yourself kicked or banned from many servers First of all, you only get that message if you configure that the server checks the weapons.pbo, furthermore, if it's placed in a modfolder called @PredatorSoundPack then you aswell know that it's because of that mod, altough a cheater could mimmic it like that aswell Still, it's the only way at this moment in time, as BIS moved the configuration of every addon tree in it's own pbo and as such, you can't just edit the config.cpp in the bin.pbo as with ofp Altough I must add that there is some topic already about overwriting classes etc through other addons, I'm not sure about the progress/status about that, but I guess that's a way to do it aswell

sickboy 13 Posted December 12, 2006 do so quickly beacuse they sound like tractorpulling machines The Tank sound patch is included in my 6thSense mod m8. If you don't want to use the rest that's included in the pack, just install it as described in the readme, then move the tracked.pbo from @6thSense\Addons into another modfolder or overwrite your original tracked.pbo from your Addons folder, altough preferably in a mod folder. The choppersound patch included in the 6thSense mod release is slightly updated btw. I should've posted it in the thread, sorry Link to 6thSense mod http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=55718
