3d clouds?

Recommended Posts

I have searched the forums but coudlnt find the answer to my question. Does Armed assault have 3d clouds that you can fly through. Like in microsft flight sim or in nim's weather ofp mod. If you have AA then fly your to the heavens and give me an answer!!!

I'd like to know as well. It's much more fun to have something that would limit the line of sight. Any info would be much appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the answers no. The engine has a dynamic day'n'night system but from what that looks like it's completely overhead. confused_o.gif Volumetric clouds can be faked (if anyone wnats to put the time into it.) Real ones, like what was shown in Crytek however are not supported by the engine in its current state.

For anyone that wants to read up on the subject thumbs-up.gifhttp://www.markmark.net/

3D clouds are not needed as theres allready more then enough things for your CPU and Video card to render, the updated ArmA cloud textures on different layered heights look a lot better then the old OFP ones and even better then the modded layered ones for OFP. The more colors available now in textures helps a lot also.

Anyway I think the dynamic lighting with the moving layered clouds works better then other FPS games with backdrops that display a photo of a sky.

i hope we can fly so high we go into space, or the edge of biggrin_o.gif then maybe we can build a space shuttle addon and then fly all the way to that moon and have battles there, tht would be cool, being able to go anywhere in space :O

Simple 3D clouds like the ones in Flight Simulator X are not gonna kill your PC. They only need to be in high detail when you are near. Still, it's probably too late for them to be added.

It's not too hard for a modder to fake them though.

Well Matt, for that to happen we would first need the whole planet of earth. Otherwise sahrani would just be some square in the middle of nowhere.

Dispite the NIMOD being laid to rest, im sure me and sentinel will work on something to bring a better ranged weather system to Arm A, the possibilities are endless wink_o.gif

Anything that's possible in OFP is possible in ArmA + many things which were previously impossible are now possible.

What he said, I'm sure sentinel can port or make a newer improved version of our old clouds.

If there's some alpha channel magic that is included, they can be very interesting. Here's hoping.

Is this the 1.6 version of the clouds? How many cloud objects did you place in the editor? And yes this would be all I would want.

I think it would look and feel a little bit more real with the clouds. Your right there is enough things that the pc would have to render, but thats why I upgrade my pc every 3-6 months to stay way ahead of the gaming industry lol. I don't know if the cloud layers are going to be better, or not. I think the colors that you mentioned will be a great help to those who can make the clouds. I like the modded clouds for OFP, and hope that the original modders, or new ones will continue thier work.
