Avimimus 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Tired of replaying the campaigns? Wouldn't it be nice if we could randomise the enemies (in size, skill and type)? I think we can: We create a program that decrypts the campaign files, leaving the missions in a editable format. It then opens each mission in sequence and (based off of command line rules): - Searches and replaces unit types (ie. All BMP-1s become BTR-80s), this could also be done in a semi randome way. - Looks for groups and randomly adds or subtracts soldiers - Modifies skill levels Then it repacks the campaign under a new name. This way we could produce a WWII OFP:R campaign with great ease. Or make a limited paramilitary one with mercenaries and no armoured vehicles. My personal favorite would be to decrease the number of enemies but increase their skill and attempt to play "iron-man" where I give up the campaign if I get killed. In other words realism. So who wants to make the program?
action man 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Sound's like a brill idea! If however you down load one of the many mods available i.e ffur in all it various format's, yk23 ect ect you will get the same effect already done for you!
colligpip 0 Posted September 22, 2006 what would be good is a program to replace the bis units with any units you want with some sort of gui to make it really easy. Or does this exist?
Avimimus 0 Posted September 22, 2006 A gui would be nice for most people. A program could be usable without it though. The upside to this approach is you can use custom units (instead of a total replacement) and you could also very the number of enemies in the game. This would be useful for ballance and could create some very different experiences. Imagine OFP:R with trucks instead of tanks, custom choice of equipment added and half the number of enemies... mr burns 132 Posted September 23, 2006 ArmA´s gonna have that feature accfording to what placebo said in one of the many interviews. Don´t think anyones going to build one for OFP at this stage.
blackdog~ 0 Posted September 23, 2006 If you just want to replace vehicles or soldiers in a campaign you could simply use something like UltraEdit to replace different words/phrases in the sqm files of an unpacked campaign. A fancy program would be kind of uneccesary.

A fancy program would be kind of uneccesary. It would be nice to have some randomisation. What I would really like is a way to produce campaigns (without doing it by hand) that did not require or encourage "Rambo style" gameplay. Some of us don't want to be heros. Even when you are a hero in these games you don't get rewarded with leave or even a promotion. You can take out four enemy tanks and ten infantrymen and then retreate and you get penalised. What about meeting engagements where there is a long range exchange of fire and you actually outnumber the enemy. What about campaigns that don't require you to use 'retry' and 'save'. How did the OFP:R campaign turn into a tank game? It should be assasinating sympathisers or conducting hit and fade attacks.
