teacup 2 Posted September 17, 2006 I'm absolutely fuming! I want to punch someone in the face.. Instead, i'll just take a breath, and post a request: BIS, i beg of you to inforce drastic and thorough filechecks, with automatic kicking for everyone having modified files. I just had it with loser server admins, allowing loser cheatzors to spoil the game for tens of people, crash servers, etc.. I'm a regular on several servers, that will always block and ban these little retards, but as soon as i step out of their safety zone, it's one bad experience after the other.. Please help those people who can't help themselves set up a cheat free server. As for you little cheating fudgepackers out there, feel free to send me your adress and i'll fly there to personally explain you why cheating is bad. I'll bring brochures and PowerPoint slides. Honest. I'm sure this issue has been brought up before, in a less hateful tone. I just couldn't resist. For me it has never been as bad as today..
chipper 0 Posted September 17, 2006 Join a squad for OFP and play on their server still lots of fun and no cheaters. Auto-kicking motified files would suck, It should still be upto the server admin to decide if he wants to allow modified files or not. Because most of the time modified files are just a unit replacement mod like ffur.
Average Joe 0 Posted September 17, 2006 What Chipper said, get yourself a goodclan, also theres other good servers out there
Eurofighter 0 Posted September 17, 2006 I wouldn't got that drastic to not allowing modified files, like the man said, they are normally mods like FFUR etc. But I DO think they should so something about these "1337 h4x0rZ" in OFP and Armed Assault. It would ruin the game entirely, I mean look at what happand to BF2, they arn't using Artillery anymore, its more like Cartillery where they just shoot hummer after hummer out of the sky and onto the ground, I do not want this happaning with armed assault. Without a decent anti-cheating program it will ruin Armed Assault entirely.
zyklone 1 Posted September 17, 2006 BIS, i beg of you to inforce drastic and thorough filechecks, with automatic kicking for everyone having modified files. Something like it is on the way. It looks like we'll atleast get some sort of signatures for addons so we can ensure people play without modified objects atleast.
teacup 2 Posted September 17, 2006 All servers list their mod requirements. You can see it in the Gamespy browser before you connect. And if you connect, and fail to match those, you can safely be kicked, with the appropriate message: "missing addons a, b, c" or "modified version of addon x". I suggest autokick because often, admins, are flooded with modfile messages from filechecks, and they prefere to just cross their fingers, hope no one cheats, and start the game. All it takes is one sloppy admin and one cheatzor kiddie to crash the game for 30 people. And if that happens 3-4 times in a row, you end up with raging lunatics like me posting on the forum. And FYI: replacement mods like FFUR do crash the servers. As i said, i play mostly on trusted clan servers, where clannies treat me like one of their own. It's just that sometimes i wanna shake it up a bit and see what else is out there.. And that's when my bloodpressure goes through the roof..
Garcia 0 Posted September 17, 2006 Auto-kick for modified files would such...I mean, when me and Hawkins use Hawkins' server, we both get a modified file warning, but I don't have any idea what we've "modified". I've seen it happen more and more without there being any cheating... at least if they were gonna add something like it, they should add a better feedback system so you would know exactly what the difference was...not just the name of the thing that is modified (because honestly, I don't have any idea what file I have that is "modified" compared to the one on Hawkins' server...) sirex 0 Posted September 17, 2006 expect alot of this in armedassault if it's directed towards the mainstream players more.
(FPC) Bacon 0 Posted September 17, 2006 This is our file check list on our server FLASHPOINT CHARLIES but it is of no purpose because the cheats,Get around them, All so if using the ECP MOD it says they have, "scripts\onplayerrespawnasseagull.sqs", So if i'm using the ECP MOD do i kick myself checkfiles[] = }; So if you were to kick ppl with mod files the would be no ppl to play as every 1 has a mod file of some description for flashpoint? doc_no1 0 Posted September 17, 2006 The 2 games i have been playing recently use punkbuster,i have to say its better than nothing, americas army and RS Lockdown,i know cheaters can get by it sometimes but global hardware bans and things like that keep a lot of scumballs away when they see punkbuster is added, cheaters are no better than terrorists, ruining the things we love. Garcia 0 Posted September 17, 2006 cheaters are no better than terrorists, ruining the things we love. Now that was a bit harsh comparison...
teacup 2 Posted September 17, 2006 Filechecks nowadays (over)react to all sorts of things: CWC + Res installs, Russian version, etc.. When it's infact the same game. They do however catch the mods/cheats as well. Problem is, admins are sometimes flooded by mod messages, they have to scroll up, read tens of lines, and make a judgement call on the spot, whether they think that person is a cheater or not. And when there's players joining quickly one after the other for say a 15v15 c&h match, they just give up. Stricter admins lock the server temporarily to allow them time to check the new arrivals, then reopen to take more players. And whenever in doubt, they just kick the modded player. Just to be on the safe side. I'm sure better filechecks can be set up, with autokick and everything, without shooting ourselves in the foot, or limiting the use of legitimate addons/mods. Placebo 29 Posted September 18, 2006 I removed the filecheck as other than making the thread a chore to scroll I don't see any purpose to a Flashpoint filecheck being posted in an ArmA thread, anyways I shall copy and paste the same closing from the last cheat thread.......... There have been numerous similar threads so there is no need for continual new ones. The most active thread for this purpose can be found here, however the whole question is moot, there will be anti-cheat in ArmA, however the final decision for anti-cheat will most probably be down to the publisher so there is very little point (certainly at this juncture) in debating what should or shouldn't be done.
