Codeblue ACU

Recommended Posts

No, I'm not in ROTC yet.. long personal story I'd much rather not explain.

I thought it was acceptable after looking at this: mich003mod4lnpo3.jpg, I know it's only a tad bit off center as opposed to my very off center hydration pack. For some strange reason, I wanted the hydration pack to be visible when backpacks are on, so I shifted to make it so.

I'm correcting this problem as I type.

unit looks nice smile_o.gif Codeblues units are vary nice wink_o.gif But some textures should be more bulk like, the pants/boots look realy crazy, in the other Addon Codeblue uints the pants/boots are the same. like make some wrinkles or something not just so fine line down text. Would be cool biggrin_o.gif Keep up the good work.

these look pretty good

definatelly an improvement over the old CB ones smile_o.gif

i second the thing about the camelbak

in general its worn on the center .

the version you modeled is only one particular unit/bloke

what about the kneepads?

these could be slightly rounder (atm they have a prism shape)

i know you want to keep things low

(~1900 poly limit you said?)

but honestly you can go upto a polycount of 3k which is pretty moderate or even low compared to some other

units available that are half as good as looking as yours *cough*

and ofp will run nicely even with more units

Don't worry Miles, they're still pretty bulky wink_o.gif

And nephilim, I may consider raising the polycount if I get the island grass to be computer friendly. Currently, on my pretty high end computer, it does slow things down a bit (it still handles large scale, relatively complicated battles pretty well).

Here's a list of my progress for the projects currently shown. I'll keep editing it to keep you guys posted.

List of things done:

1. Move the hydration pack

2. Finish adding grass onto the island

List of things to do:

1. Add more dirt and smears where olemissrebel suggested (no more "vet" units.. all will have these)

2. Make island grass more computer friendly

3. Add Trees, roads, rocks, and buildings onto the island

4. Round the kneepads and improve the texture

5. Maybe increase the poly count for the legs

6. Add in better grenades and make/find a good M40A3 model (I'll probably find one and ask for permission.. unless if someone's willing to model it for me)

7. Tan up the ACU and get in votes to see which is better

After these, I'll release an alpha to select people for their opinions/suggestions on both the mission(s) and quality of addons. I'm looking at Miles Teg and olemissrebel if you guys don't mind

Things to do later:

1. Improve the weapons

2. Add JAM version

3. Add groups

4. Fix lots and lots of bugs

Am I missing anything? I'm pretty open to reasonable and democratically voted suggestions.  thumbs-up.gif

make sure you make some good LOD´s for it

then there shouldnt be any problems withs FPS.

also reduce texture count over oxygens merge texture function.

keep texture sizes for the the grass low

eg one 1024*512 tilable texture map (max!wink_o.gif or 512*256

other than that i think the ACU has a slight too greenish tint

might be some other thing tho.

recently acquired 10 meters of ACU cloth i can say its tanish

but not blueish or greenish in general dye

Nephilim - One word. Vicious. Please insult other addons in their own threads.

Dave - So now I know why your "ACU" looks so brown... desert MARPAT, eh? biggrin_o.gif

no, Nephilim wasn't insulting at all.. don't worry CameronMcDonald, but thanks anyways for trying to look after my back

And lol.. no, I was looking at that photo for the way the gear was arranged here and there. I looked at this one and thought that an off center hydration pack is a-ok. Sadly, many people pointed out that it's not very common nor is it a good idea.

I am doing desert MARPAT later though  biggrin_o.gif

Hey Dave, she wasn't insulting you, she was insulting other addons (*cough*) - I don't need to cover your back with all the compliments you're getting.

And no, the CamelBak is worn in the centre of the back, for obvious reasons. You ever done physics? Water is damned heavy, and having it to either side is likely to make one side of your body very tired very fast, as well as skewing your horizontal centre of gravity.

@cameron

LOL!

me vicious? hm..

you havent met me havig a fury so... biggrin_o.gif

im not insulting im just giving tips thats all

strange that some people take advices as an insultment  :S

but yea im pointing out that other addons arent as good as this ones here even thou they use the triple amount of polys..

dave made some pretty good and economic units

take it as a aim for yourself... smile_o.gif

@dave

can you give us an texture count number of one unit?

check out the camelback and the backpack used for the medic in camerons ACU set, i gave him reference pictures for the two, and they are well modeled, and actually used in the infantry.  As far as usuing them, I'm not the person to ask, but they would be the most realistic, and of course I'd help you out checking out the addons if you need me.  Also, one thing thats been missed on the IBA is a place for a nametape, and rank on the upper left portion.  I dont suppose it really matters in OFP, as adding random names would just be a pain in the butt.

Also, dont worry about it being seen under the assault pack, most all assault packs today are made with a built in bladder, so there's really no need!

As always Dave, I am ready to beta test and give some good feedback after giving them a really good combat test on multiple resolutions, distances, etc...  smile_o.gif

I wish my mod had hardcore beta testers...most of our beta testers flaked out and took off without really testing much.   Only Thunderbird and maybe one other actualy did some great beta testing for us.  Most people don't realize that good beta-testing really is alot of work and not just getting to "play around" with a new addon.   Thats why I usually only beta test for a select few mods/addon makers cuz I'm usually very busy.  The Code Blue addons however are I believe well worth finding time to test.

smile_o.gif

Looking foward to sticking them in the LoBo Lebanon map against our very tough Hezbollah fighters.   smile_o.gif

Yeah for those who don't know...Tarik=Thunderbird84.  He's a great guy and I'm sure he appreciated VERY detailed beta testing.  I feel bad because he wanted me to test his mod out more, but I just didn't have time for such a massive beta test.  I guess thats the same problem with my mod...it requires ALOT of time to do a good beta test.  Dave's work I can handle because they are smaller packs that I can concentrate on and not be overwhelmed.  But hey if you got alot of time on your hands my mod could always use hardcore beta testers who are serious about doing a good job.  smile_o.gif

Likewise, good mission makers are VERY difficult to find. My mod has yet to find a reliable high quality mission maker. We had a few who had made good missions in the past, but they never produced anything for us....very disappointing.

To Dave: I will try and see if I can make a good mission for your boys. Maybe substitute them for the BIS guys I used in that LoBo Terrorist pack demo mission. But I can try and make a mission from scratch as well just using BIS units along with yours so it won't need 3rd party addons.

I actually never thought of texture counts. Let me fix things up a bit and then get back to you for an answer

Thanks for the info olemissrebel.. I'll model the camelbak to something more common and used.. If I like Cameron's model enough, I think I'll ask for permission

And Miles, it'll be great having you make missions

Just a simple question about these units. Will they be using the Original BIS head model or Lluama's Head Model (I can't tell from the pic) banghead.gif

Original head, I'm fairly sure (CodeBlue uses modified textures for the head for that sweet helmet shadow, though).

I was under the impression the shadow was just an overlay texture applied to a seperate group of faces just above the face texture and is in no way a modified face texture.

Wrong, mate. Download the original units and check. There are BIS faces in there with the helmet shadow. What I meant was that original BIS head texture + non-BIS overlay shadow = modified head texture. smile_o.gif

Yeah, in those screens are modified BIS face textures. You'd have to use "this setface "cb_faceblahbalbhalh" " for them to show. If you don't use them, the helmet still casts a crude shadow.. it's only really noticable during the early morning and setting sun though.
