Baphomet 0 Posted March 29, 2006 In Daggerfall vampirism was as easy as going to the nearest temple that offered services to cure.. which I kind of like better...
Placebo 29 Posted March 29, 2006 Goto your inventory and press&hold 1-8 and there you can assign your items/spells/weapons. When you leave the menu you only have to press 1-8. The console has also thsi feature but mousewheel would indeed be handy Yes I know about assigning 1-8, as I mentioned because I'm left handed it means either moving my left hand off the mouse to press 1-8 which is bad, or moving my right hand all the way across the keyboard from its resting place on the cursor keys, which is also bad
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 29, 2006 In Daggerfall vampirism was as easy as going to the nearest temple that offered services to cure.. which I kind of like better... I saw a mod for vampirism cure potions wich you can buy in a shop on www.tessource.com/files  EDIT: Placebo why dont you play with WASD as the movement keys? its alot easier!
NorthenNat 0 Posted March 29, 2006 I think i might get this. Is it as good as Morrowind?
berghoff 11 Posted March 29, 2006 In Daggerfall if you stayed a vampire for long enough you became a "vampire ancient" and essentially lost the game because you became a totally evil-consumed mindless bloodsucker, type-thing.Is that how it works in Oblivion? You got 3 days untill you are completly a Vampire. =) Only seen ancient ghost.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 29, 2006 I think i might get this. Is it as good as Morrowind? The combat is at least a million times better, no more hit-rolls! The area is bigger, its beautiful, has great AI. Yeah, its at least as good as morrowind
kegetys 2 Posted March 29, 2006 only problem is it displays subtitles in black text despite my choosing subtitles to be off? Indeed, it seems the game uses some internal code to hide the regular text, leaving only my shadow visible I couldn't find a way around it, so to fix it you would need to remove the subtitle text shadows yourself (The menus are xml so they are quite easy to edit).. NorthenNat 0 Posted March 29, 2006 I'll get it then. I hope theres still lots of side quests to do and guilds to join. Are the Imperial legion in it? (if so do they still look similar to Roman soldiers?)
berghoff 11 Posted March 29, 2006 Yea, in the Imperial City there are only Imperial Gaurds, and Imperial Forester etc.

GoOB 0 Posted March 29, 2006 Well... I threw my back out last sunday and since then I have been at home playing Oblivion... What can I say? Wonderful game, although I was dissappointed with some aspects. Like the menus, some of the equipment, the fact that they removed long/short-blade skills et cetera et cetera. But despite those little things, I just love it. Oh, got it running smooth as silk at medium settings, texture size set to medium and the resolution at 1024x768 and some other small things enabled smooth as silk And where the hell can I get some enchanted daggers or other weapons? Iv'e searched every store I can find... Still no enchanted items, except armour that is. EDIT: Forgot to pick at the level-scaling... What's the deal? The game is too damn easy with my level 4 assassin and far too difficult with my level 3 thief.

cervomix 0 Posted March 29, 2006 I was a bit disapointed by Morrowind compared to Arena and Daggerfall, but Oblivion is a really great game! It looks like Bethesda took inspiration on Ghotic 2 to simulate living NPC (even if Ghotic 2 is still better on some of these points). The only problems comes from the fact that it was developped both for PC and XBOX360... but it could be worse for a XBOX 360 game! Here's what is annoying me so far: - Inventory uses a 24 size font text and icons are so huge (because of the TV mode on consoles), they could have done a better version for PC - Sandbox difficulty mode, good items appears later in the games (on enemies and even in shops), and worse, monsters skills are matched on your level, so when you go to Oblivion with your level 3 character and kill dozen of Daedras... it is a bit disapointing. - The system to select missions is great but the marker on the compass makes it a bit too easy. - Mana regenerates so fast! - Can't fight on horses (i bet they will make a datadisk allowing this among other things) - Not as deep as Thief 2 game for the thieves and assasins gameplay(even if the light and weight of the boots are taken into consideration). - No localised damages (too bad, an arrow headshot would be so nice! - Dungeons look the same, it is way better than morrowing (it couldn't be worse anyway), but we see very often the same blocks. - No kids or animals (there's sheep meat, but ... I never seen one), the only wild peaceful animals are deers. - Underwater graphics suck a lot ,they are so empty and don't even have custom textures - Maybe because of the levelling fact, you NEVER find small valuable items on the ground in dungeons or in houses (like a ring). Or I missed them all! - no key to cycle weapons of spells - You can't recruit NPC and equip them with armor and weapons - Too much time consuming, doesn't even allow me to update ofp.info  The list of features I love would be too long but here's just a few ones: - Monsters follow you out of dungeons (FINALLY, no more resting just in door of the cave) - Radiant IA isn't bad at all, nice to see NPC trying to steal others, guards taking their duty and replacing others that will go to sleep, NPC going to hunt around cities, travelling NPC, etc - Ragdoll system (yeah i'm one of the psycho that like throwing cadavers on slopes) :P - Monsters look better, more heroic fantasy and there are more classes than in Morrowind (it is a bit like Daggerfall). Finally a game made both for PC and XBOX that doesn't suck!

Donnervogel 0 Posted March 29, 2006 if u are having problems with mobs who level with u ..just put the difficulty slider a bit to the left (can do this at anytime from the options)Seems devs supposed everyone would max their skills each level and most ppl only get half the possible skillsgains per level (2-3points instead of 5) well for me it seems impossible to get full skill gain as whenever I fight I will very fast reach my 10 major skillpoints which will freeze my modifiers. Imho there's a huge flaw in the design that after the level up you get your modifiers frozen. Because if I don't level and devellop the skills further, when I then level later I will almost imemdiatly level again with crappy modifiers again. It's just like a vicious circle and I can't escape it. My skills progress to fast and I can't control them so the modifer freeze kicks in too early. I tried adjusting the difficulty setting but somehow it doens't work very well for me. There are some regions when I set it in those regions I see nothing really happening and then I set it only a little tiny bit to more to the left and it all gets ridicolously easy. Placebo 29 Posted March 30, 2006 Ok I can stop bitching, seems you can change the hotkey assignments manually in the default.ini file (documents and settings/blah blah/my documents/my games/Oblivion, you just gotta know the correct codes Quote[/b] ]numpad1 = 004FFFFF numpad2 = 0050FFFF numpad3 = 0051FFFF numpad4 = 004BFFFF numpad5 = 004CFFFF numpad6 = 004DFFFF numpad7 = 0047FFFF numpad8 = 0048FFFF numpad9 = 0049FFFF numpad0 = 0052FFFF numpad enter = 009CFFFF numpad . = 005300FF numpad * = 0037FFFF numpad - = 004AFFFF numpad + = 004EFFFF Apparently codes may vary depending on keyboard used, so do some googling or within Oblivion change some keyboard assignments then note down the codes the ini will give you for that key Edit: First ini tweaking app released http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=1937

Your modifiers dont stop Wildo Yes they freeze. After you get the level up messages you can devlop your skills but you won't be able to change the attribute modifiers anymore. So if I get my 10 skillpoints after about 2 hours playing I ususally have something like +3 on agility, +2 on strenght and +2 on speed and nothing else much. I'd really need more endurance for example. but I rarley get more. I can train other skills for that to some extend but as they always inolve fighting I rately can archieve more than +2 on endurance. The char is really messed up because it's so specialised on what I mainly do and the freeze is artificially limiting my progress.

kavoven 4 Posted March 30, 2006 Played the game 4 hours today... In my opinion the best RPG ever made. I never had so many "wow" moments... Just arrived at the harbour-city during dusk... Amazing, purely amazing... I think I'm not the fastest player, because I reached only lvl 3 in 10 hours of gaming, but at least I know, how the game works Played around al lot with this "make people more friendly" thingy and today I just walked through the landscape and discovered everything... The only flaws I can see are some minor translation mistakes from Eng->Ger but that doesn't matter at all, because I can read it anyway I'm currently making a little movie, to show those, who don't know the game, how great the graphics are... I'm running with 10-15 frams in average, 30-50 in dungeons and I can still improve many things... This game is just too great *edit* Quote[/b] ] No localised damages (too bad, an arrow headshot would be so nice! Isn't it? If I shot someone in the head, he is dead immediatly. Doesn't happen if I shoot in his leg. Quote[/b] ]- No kids or animals (there's sheep meat, but ... I never seen one), the only wild peaceful animals are deers. I just had something like a sheep bug... There was a damn group of 6 sheeps, following me everywhere... I feld kinda stupid ^^ Further there are wolfs and bears... And I really think, you do not need children in this game.
