Tracers in arma

Recommended Posts

They did, at least in world war 2 (in their aircraft machineguns). Germany used red up until 1943, then they used blue in their 20mm cannons and yellow in their 30mm cannons. Russia used yellow in their cannons. Britain and america used red in their machineguns and yellow in their cannons. Playing il2 is like watching starwars, sometimes. You can really tell what's going on by the colour/orientation of the tracers in the distance.

The best thing with the tracers in ArmA is that they won't be green anymore. tounge2.gif (OfpE)

Edéáté: If you havent seen it yet, take look at this video by maxqubit. That's what they might look like in ArmA.

I heard russians actually use green tracers but i cant confirm that because ive never witnessed them in RL, i hope tracers arnt like the silly string they look in OFP, i like short sharp ones, much like blackhawkdown the game. thumbs-up.gif

Yes, tracers do bounce off of the ground in OFP:E in a very realistic way. The round keeps going, so it can still kill when it finally comes to a stop.

They do need to look more like small cometary bodies and less like full-distance laser beams, though.

They are need to keep tracers away from pistols, submachineguns, silenced weapons, and sniper rifles. I wouldn't have them in assault rifles unless it was night time. They are fine in belt-fed machineguns, squad automatic weapons or heavy machineguns. If rounds are explosive, I don't think they should ricochet. Seeing the A-10's nose-cannon rounds ricocheting off of the ground in OFP:E is dangerous!

Weapons that do have tracers also need to have the appropriate ratio of tracer/non-tracer ammo. About 1 of the former for every 3 of the latter.

what he said^^^

plus don't tracers light up the environment?

like if you're firing prone you'd see it light up the ground.

maybe it's asking too much, but i've seen a game like america's army do it fine.

Wow, thx u.

I was angry because my cabletv provider just get rid of discorvery channel (i saw good science docs in that channel). But looking at that...  whistle.gif, now i understand.

On the other hand i like the way the bullets jumps when they hit the car, tracers like that in arma could make night battles look really good.

i think they could spend some time in these tracers "thing"

normally its set 1 tracer bullet 5 in 5 bullets..

maybe was more realistc if tracers change somehow..

Well slap a big light on my head and call me a christmas tree. What is the point of tracers for anyhting less than .50 cal without optics anyway? Why not stand up, drop your strides and wave your hairies at the enemy too....here I am guys shoot me!

SAW/Minimi, M60/M240/GPMG: standard combat load is 4 ball, 1 tracer (or 4 AP, 1 tracer or, when required, all API). When you're engaging targets 500m to 1,500m away it's useful to see where your shots are landing. Optics are primarily for single shot usage not auto fire; tracer is no use in single shot or burst, it is for walking the shot onto target.

Tanks', APC's, AFV's coax and machine guns use tracers as do aircraft cannons/coax/machine guns.

If you're using tracer properly there should be no enemy left in a position to return fire.

Tracer is a good thing.

Arent the tracers in OFP kinda like a texture with some coded ability to kill?

Ok, maybe i'm noob, but only recently found out the DXDLL has a tracer option (application key + T?). Not sure if the effect makes it more realistic but (especially from a distance) they kinda have the motion blur look.

Anyway, indeed tracers are one of the things i would like to see improved. Although i'm not that happy about the current way it works; meaning (if i'm correct)...or weapon has a (full or predefined parent)of tracers rounds in a mag or it doesn't.

Not sure if i remeber correctly, but afaik i read somewhere (proberly on Milphotos) that some people tend to mark their last bullets with a tracer in their mag so they know mag is near empty (remember: in RL there are NO bullet counter pop-up screeen icon_rolleyes.gif ). Ok, others are beeing learned to shoot in 'double taps' and try to count their shots...

Anyway, it would be great IF magazines are more appart from the weapon cfg (same for bullet sound...isn't it more weapon sound? Meaning like in the case of silencers..it are the same bullets, ONLY silencer-weapon changes sounds. So no more 5.56mm AND 5.56mmSS bullets).

So the mag itself can be more modified...so maybe magazines can be manually refilled during mission briefing the way you want it (or with standard layouts...like no tracers, full tracers, 1/3 tracers, last 3 bullets = tracers).

One thing is sure, tracers do have their valua in game/simulation play.

I´d rather have an 1 month delay just to see the first game ever to have realistic tracers and the supersonic crack of a bullet, it would be one of the biggest additions to battlefield ambiance imo.

And better impact effects.
