Rainbow Six: Letdown DEMO

Recommended Posts

So its official that RSE listened to the console-crowd when they made the pc-version rofl.gif

Quote[/b] ]When it came time to create the PC version of the game what were the team's main goals?

Graphics. We wanted to make sure the graphics were up to date with the PC market. Special effects were also a high priority for us as this goes into making sure the game is “cutting edgeâ€. Another high priority that the team had was to listen to the users of the console versions and try to make changes to improve the game over the console versions. We were able to achieve this by altering the layouts of some missions. We also decided to pull the sniper missions from the PC version of the game due to the negative feedback we were getting from the Console versions.

Apparantly they were sooo busy listening to the console users they completely forgot about their pc fanbase whistle.gif

This game really shows its age. The AI seems like that of a Nintendo 64 AI system. If not somewhat dumber.

Yet, behind all of everything, for some reason it's a bit fun to move around and shoot people...in its own strange ways.

Well, we can forget about R6 has they decided to kill it long ago, if they had canceled it like they did with GR2 people would be even more pissed.. On the other hand GRAW is looking good and big on the 360>>nice trailer<< but the PC version is being made by a almost unknown developer on their own proprietary engine and theres almost nothing to see about it out there, the PC one is supposed to be more tactical and if they manage to make it look good enough it might turn out well smile_o.gif .

To be honest I think this is a good thing. RSE has proved they are no longer able to make what the community wants. As for being a first time unknown developer, that usually is a good thing. New-comers tend to put extra effort into their products in order to build themselves a reputation. They have everything to loose on that very first product.

Maybe but the issue is RSE does what Ubi wants them to do, GRIN shouldnt be much diferent and theres other stuff we should consider though..

It problably wasnt RSE's decision to turn R6 or GR2 into arcade has it wasnt their decision to simply port R6 Letdown to the PC. And RSE is developing the MP portion of GRAW 360 and i believe they plan to release a 16 player coop Nicaragua campaign has DLC so they must be under extreme workload and pressure for quite some time. I wouldnt be surprised if they couldnt make R6 LD better even if they wanted to wink_o.gif .

most hilarious quote of the year.

That just show how much some people think about realistic tactical simulation.

It seems BIS/BIA are now alone in the industry with the guts to produce one.

Yet they dont seem to have a publisher sad_o.gif . I still think GRAW might turn out good, only depends on the developer and their graphics engine capabilities smile_o.gif .

No. Thats bullshit and you know it.

It only depends on the developer and their gameplay-creating capabilities wink_o.gif

Ah biggrin_o.gif , Book has been writen already, the development of the game is not solely handed to the PC developer (Grin), Ubi is supposed to be on it too and they the ones who came up with the theme, AW concept, gameplay features and stuff. Grin are doing what Ubi tells them to do so gameplay elements and how tactical it turns are most likely Ubi's call wink_o.gif .

What i meant is that the graphics engine used for PC GRAW is unknown just like the developer itself and if they dont meet the requirements for such a promissing and demanding game GRAW will suck.

edit: On the subject of GRAW you might find these xbox360 teaser movies at IGN interesting smile_o.gif .

sad_o.gif  /uninstalling Lockdown after 5 minutes.

It makes me sad to see a series go downhill this way.  Rogue Spear / Urban Ops was the first great tactical game that I played, and if I had it installed I could still happily play Estate daily - speed runs, shotgun frenzies, pistols only, back stairs, front window.  I still can't put my finger on it exactly, but there was something in it - environments, movements, FOV, I don't know - that gave it a certain feeling of precision and control.  I haven't seen a worthy substitute since.

It was also where I learned about modifying game content:

Btw does anyopne know if there are any complete Mods for RS/Uops or Hidden and dangerous around ? Along with some of you I still have both installed and play them from time to time.

I still love the H&D series most. H&D 1 was a blast for me. It actually brought me to tactical gaming. Would be nice if there were any good Mods or missionpacks around. Do you know any ?

SWAT4 and Raven Shield were just a waste of money for me. I was really looking forward to Raven Shield, bought it and found out that it was utter crap. I even tried to play it online. I guess the experience was close to playing Commander Keen in 3D with so many bugs that I just uninstalled it and never touched it again. SWAT 4 has some shiny things but the game itself is very boring imo.

There are some realism-mod for SWAT that add alot more weapons and change the characteristics. Its makes it somewhat fun (closer to RvS). H&D1 was amazing in its time. I remember a friend and I spent countless hours playing it coop. H&D2:SQ is also sweet, just too bad it does'nt have as many coop maps. But there are some community-edited maps from the first H&D2 made into coop.

I don't know of any mods for R6 and RS, but there are alot of maps and mods in development constantly for RvS. One is also working on a ironsights-mod.

I dont know why you think RvS is utter crap. If it was because of the bugs you found early in the game you really should give it another shot now with the latest patch. Personally I think its the best in the series. The coolest maps I've seen in the R6-series is in the free RvS-expansion: Iron Wrath.

edit: H&D2 coop maps here thumbs-up.gif

Hi,

There are still mods being made for the Rogue Spear series, some conversions of maps from the original Rainbow Six game have been released over the last few months. They can be found among these Rainbow Six downloads.

Mods for Hidden and Dangerous 1 and 2 are quite rare. H&D Deluxe, available as a legal free download, fixes some of the bugs of the original (no longer sinking through the ground to your death) and includes some tooling though to modify the game. There are also some other programs around to unpack and repack the files (e.g. to include reskins or undo the censoring of textures in H&D Deluxe).

New missions for H&D Deluxe

Some H&D 2 modification downloads

Regards,

Sander

Balschoiw, I don't have my copies of Rogue Spear or Urban Operations anymore, (they were stolen)though I can still remember a few cool mods I use to play it with.

Try looking for a site called woody2000.dk I think is the name. I know it sounds like a porno site but I swear it's not. If the site still exist the guy had a huge depository of Rogue Spear/Urban Operations mods.

My favorite mods that I always had activated were some skins by a guy named Mel Ebbles. They were incredible and blew the original skins out of the water. I also used to use the weapons mod titled Counter Strike 2, which had nothing to do with the stupid half life game. There also was a weapons Mod titled Nato3 which was supposed to be quite realistic, sort of like a distant cousin to Flashpoints JAM.

Indeed one of the finest skin mods available:

Rogue Spear Couturier

Endisix skins

As soon as I am done with the International infantry 2 work for OFP, I might return to Rogue Spear skinning.

One of my favourite weapon mods for Rogue Spear/Urban Operations:

Sputnik's 6.2 Weapons Mod

And the large NATO 3.5 mod:

ARMM NATO 3.5 Weapons Mod

Sander

Ach, who cares. The soon-to-be-released stechkov syndicate extension for SWAT 4 will make those coops playble for even more players and fix some command interface quirkiness if I am not mistaken. yay.gif

Always found the idea of busting gangbangers, mafiosos and nuts more appealing than chasing generic suitcase nuke wielding russian rebels. Not to mention little police brutality with the tazer or pepper spray. yay.gif

Swat 4 and Raven Shield are different breed of games, but I somehow find general feeling of shooting and moving around more appealing in Raven Shield. Swat 4 has better graphics environment-wise, but characters models look a bit tiny and rag-dollish. It's like comparing CoD and H&D2 character models, in the latter they look more real-sized and therefore more intimidating. Too bad Raven Shield storyline was so far fetched and 'politically correct', I mean c'mon in the first mission some ex-Yougoslav neonazis capture a Venezuelan oil refinery demanding release of convicted ww2 ustasha commander! The generic militant/terrorist troops are also getting tiring to shoot at. R6 and Rogue Spear had much variety in that sense and better storylines overall. Neo-nazi stuff brings too much into mind how it messed up otherwise good elements of Sum of All Fears movie.

Stuff by Cocobolo Ops (http://www.planetrainbowsix.com/dtd/) is IMHO, some of the best stuff ever put into Urban Ops. Also good is http://files.3dretreat.com/file.asp?fileid=282 and Lloyd's Weapon Mod if you can still find it. Good uniforms from http://www.planetrainbowsix.com/statsemper/ and http://files.3dretreat.com/file.asp?fileid=90. Another good weapon mod is at http://www.planetrainbowsix.com/nmm/.

I loved Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear and then it all got screwed up. Whoever came up with the idea to turn the series into an CS clone should be shot, repeatedly... pistols.gif

I read the interview a page back and all I got out of it was "blah blah blah GRAPHICS blah blah GRAPHICS" seems fairly obvious that they only focused on the eye candy because thats what the majority of the market buys games for. confused_o.gif

R6 R.I.P. :/

So sad to hear such a great game is turning into rubbish.

Would this be possible to have a R6 mod for ofp, or ArmA?...

Well, I recall reading somewhere that the next installment of R6 would be going "back to it's roots" with more simulation-like gameplay. Would'nt bet on it though. icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe they should just start a new series instead (historical or future?), 4 games and 6 expansion packs are putting quite a strain on the storyline.
