Can it be that Armed Assault is going to be released exactly 5 years after OFP? On the same day? :P

Forgive my ignorance but when was the release date of OFP?

According to AvonLady (Thanks Avon! )

Quote ]OFP was first officially released internationally, excluding North America, on June 22 2001. The official North American version was released on August 28th, 2001.

We should do something to celebrate 5 years.

Well why the hell didn't you say so before.. holy crap! I can see the trucks rolling right now.

THIS LOOKS AS GOOD AS IF NOT BETTER THAN GAME 2

...not too sure about that.

Have a look at these images i found (you may have seen them before but i hadn't)

Look at theses guys;

[im]http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/138/914623_20050519_screen025.jpg[/img]>100kb

Now look at this fellow;

[im]http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/138/914623_20050519_screen024.jpg[/img]>100kb

(note his shadow, looks good? But how come theres no shadow on the floor(!wink_o.gif)

It's things like this that make me think it may be worth hanging on untill 'flashpoint 2' is out.

Those are early alpha stage shots from the next-gen engine from BIS. =) And are bigger than 100kb.

There is a shadow, its just not as obvious from this angle - its most obvious on the rock between the soldier and the wall where there are 2 almost parallel lines. Also, the patch of ground is slightly darker.

Now there could be the observation that the shadow is a little too dark and crisp....

His weapon has no shadow?

And am I seeing things, or is that British DPM?

I hope that ArmA uses the same engine that makes such nice graphics like seen on the screens from game2 (or should we say game3?). i dont want to see my old OFP Engine graphics, only with new textures upon it. i can have the same with mod packs.

but, somehow my feelings tells me that this pictures are from ArmA, because there are things we can see that looks almost like things on the low detailed arma screens from press release.

also u can the destruction system from VBS1 in one of thhis pics. with this destruction system u can take a c4 bomb into a house and after explosion the house looks so great destroyed like in hollywood films.

and a realy fantastic feature is that u can use a M1A2 Arbams to drive through a house.

here some screens were u can see the destruction system, also a link to the movie pack were u can see the VBS1 destrucion system in action. smile_o.gif

the destruction movie is called "dynamicBuild_a"

Here the screens and take a look on the destructions at that building.

here the videopack to download:

here some VBS1 stuff. i hope we will see this stuff in ArmA.

such as artillery and more. but see on ur own.

Fantastic Terrains - VBS TP3

The USMC Units - VBS1 USMC Pack

The Observer tool for realtime Commander Strategy's and Tactic coordination and more. - VBS1 Observer3

The total Realistic Artillery Pack with mortars, towed and self-propelled howitzers, and MLRS. one of the best VBS1 Packs i have seen. this realistic stuff makes the most fun with the nice gameplay of OFP - VBS1 Artillery Pack

One more of the best packs i have seen. F18 Hornets, Tiger attack helicopter and many more - VBS1 Australian Defence Force Pack 2

how about the fantastic features of the VBS1 US ARMY Addon Pack1 for "Armed Assault"?

The US Army 1 Addon for VBS1 is the most comprehensive and complex VBS1 add-on module ever created, providing highly detailed and realistic representations for a large number of US Army vehicles and weapons. The pack contains new functionality and detail not yet seen in VBS1, including:

The largest module ever released by Bohemia Interactive Australia.

High quality 3D models and textures.

A wide assortment and variations of the modern US Army's Combat, Air and Support vehicles.

Three complete groups of infantry (Woodland, Desert, and ACU).

Basic Combat-air support (CAS) simulation.

Randomized and customizable vehicle markings and numbers.

User customizable arm badges for Woodland and Desert infantry units. //very nice feature for clans and privat groups.

A M577 that acts as a movable respawning 'base' in multiplayer. //do you guys remember the MF Conquer the Island mode with the MHQ? Here you go...

New smoke and fire effects.

Radar for air units.

Suspension animation for land and air units.

Animated TOW on Bradley IFVs. //fantastic

Artillery units completely compatible with VBS1 Artillery Module, seamless intergration.

Easily add US Army equipment to the gear selection page of the mission briefing.

Full documentation for all editing needs.

Simulation of weapon recoil.

Automatic Countermeasures for Air Units.

The pack is highly configurable with many features able to be activated or deactivated.

US Army 1 is fully compatible with the VBS1 Artillery Module (AM) and Instructor Interface (II).

Last but not least, the vbs1 special offer pack. here u can see fantastic textures and models we hopefully see again in ArmA. Also u can see the Piracy Protection - The USB CDKey Stick - VBS1 Special Offer $266

If i had the money, i had VBS1 with the fantastic addons. but, i am not rich. damn sad_o.gif

ArmA is not VBS, it will be significantly different. You have to understand that VBS is a simulation that is intended to be used as a training tool, and that Armed Assault is a game, and the included content will be totally different than VBS1 content. You should also know that there are apparantly legal issues with using content in OFP/ArmA directly from VBS, and that BIS has different intentions than BIA. Infact, the only thing that is supposed be in ArmA that's taken from VBS1 are a few engine enhancements, mixed in with the new optimizations.

And so that's it, of course, unless Placebo cares to awake from "moderator mode"  tounge2.gif  and shed some light on the topic.

Ive played VBS and I don't care what the hard core VBS users say... its a game. Just becuae it is used as a training tool, dosn't mean its not still a game. In fact, its a better game then the original Flashpoint. Obviouslly some of the training tools would likely not be in ArmA, like Observer. I also wouldn't expect anything like the Artillery pack. And to call them "significantly" diffrent is pretty drastic. With certain moduels for VBS, its pretty much the same game with some engine improvements.

And all the info you just stated is pretty much community speculation anyway. We don't have any hard info as to what will, and will not be included from VBS. Thing enhancements like the Terrain Pack 3, with massive cities are possibly in some form in ArmA. We just don't know. Also, I personally have never seen a BIS/BIA dev or community rep say anything about legal issues useing things from VBS in ArmA. Either I missed it, it's a community rummor, or just pulled out of thin air... I mean from my understanding BIA is just another branch of BIS, so I really can't see the legal issue there.

Either way tho... visually ArmA is going to be better. When it comes to models and units, it dosn't really matter if things are included from VBS, becuase the community can add units in with mods. All that matters is that the engine is improved, the islands a better, and the visuals are good. Beyond that the community can take over.

also in all the invterviews BIS sayed that features and environments will be some from VBS1 too. like destruction system and many more.

and the features in ArmA are the features testet and used in VBS1 like the new engine enhancements and destruction systems. also the bigger world and mp join on running games.

all features from VBS1.

and i do know that VBS1 is a simulation mr. KyleSarnik!

I play nothing else then simulations. OFP is a simulation too, but not so deep in detail like VBS1. in my mind VBS is the support that OFP needet but didnt get it. Also there are no restrictions and rights. thats why VBS1 is public and not ARMY only!

so there are not so big differences between VBS1 and OFP.

i know that because my uncle was staff sergeant specialist 7 in the united states army and was a tank comander from a m1a2 tank platoon in the first golf war. actualy he is almost 50 and loves simulations like i do.

he gave me a show about OFP and VBS1.

also i know several people from forums thats playing VBS1.

so it realy can be that we will see many things from VBS1 in ArmA.

BIS never had much chances to make big addons for OFP like the terrain and unit addons from VBS1, because there work for the army VBS program. And codemasters canceld any game support early after the release of OFP.
