sputnik monroe 102 Posted July 18, 2007 Quote[/b] ]There should be a several year moratorium on all WW2 games. Only if they also put a moratorium on RTS and FPS games as well. Now those are over done.
Second 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Nice to be able to test tactical solutions, which i'm going to use in ArmA, thru modern combat mission (CMSF should have mission editor... Haven't checked thou). When making (good-)mission i usually make samekind map in combat mission representing ArmA's battleterrain and start deploy troops. Then transfer those positions to ArmA. It's funny how much easier (and more efficent) it is to do in combat mission. I'm not thinking and setting units by ArmA's rules, but by actual (realistic) tactical solutions. They are not optimal ofcourse, but usually i'm more saticified that way.
colt 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Well the game is out and so is the demo! Demo link: http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmsf/downloads.html Currently only Fileplanet, but mirrors will be appearing.
Second 0 Posted July 28, 2007 My bankaccount is bit too thin right now... Next month then Good thing that demo is out... There are enough mirrors now!
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 28, 2007 Im not much of a strategy gamer but i'm givin this demo a good run, since its realistic strategy and it looks and sounds so damn fine . edit: I didnt like it at all, i'll just forget this ever happened .
kegetys 2 Posted July 28, 2007 Ouch, the demo is a "bit" sluggish. About 15-20fps on average and sometimes even drops below 10fps. Even worse is that the mouse and keyboard controls are extremely sluggish because of this and trying to actually play it is pretty painful... This is with a E6600 at 3,4GHz, 2GB of memory and a GF8800GTS 640MB.
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 28, 2007 Yes, very bad performance, camera gets stuck all the time, visible lod switching and bad user interface and graphics. I also thought it would be something more like a mix betwean Rome:TW and FSW, something like that. This thing reminds me of the T72 in fire demo, must be the same graphics engine, i dont know who will pay 40 for this...
AWDrift 0 Posted July 28, 2007 I like it, but the controls need alot of refinement. Especially the camera.
Second 0 Posted July 28, 2007 Bad camera has always been weak point of combat mission-series. It takes lots of time to get used to and someones dont get used to it ever. It took me a year or two to finally adapt to it. commanding interfare isn't same as in earlier combat missions, but i handle it quite well already. Trying to beat that "official" mission (not tutorial) as Syria... Man, it's hard (almost campleted it once! ). Terrain and daytime just doesn't seem to give anything that i could use as a advantage. Well i'm still learning the system and open plains sucks. I can see forest map type...
zwobot 22 Posted July 28, 2007 I had no problems with camera controls in previous CM games, but Shock Force's camera is somehow worse There are also things missing like "show all waypoints/targets". Also most times I press a key the input freezes for 2 to 3 seconds, but the game goes on, the way key events are processed seem to be bugged by something. I had numerous ctds with my antivir software apparently being the troublemaker, alt-tabbing doesn't work for me either (at least CM crashes when re-focusing from the desktop). Apart from that it runs quite well on my relatively old rig. Nice how you can choose the equipment for your infantry before dismounting an IFV.
AfrographX 0 Posted July 29, 2007 Performance was ok on my old machine, set the options to 'balanced'. Key inputs is totally messed up and not usable. The lag of 2-5 secs makes it completely impossible to use hotkeys. The way the map is floating in this box of low-res desert-landscape pictures looks ridiculous. LOD-switching as mentioned looks weird, apart from that the modells closeup look superb. Gameplay is ok. Sometimes units don't attack on themselves, sometimes the Stryker try to take out enemy T72s with their .50cal. Would like to have an option to make all waypoints of all units visiblle. Couldn't find a switch to turn the ingame music out. Gets annoying after a couple of minutes. My advice, get Armed Assault and CoC's CEX. More realism, better graphics and gameplay. Second 0 Posted July 29, 2007 My hotkeys works as should, no lag. I wouldn't change the camera (already love it)... But in urbanterrain this might get truly bad. Awfully lot good things from earlier combat missions have been dropped off: like xxx amount of useful hotkeys. This should be in my hometown's postoffice just same same day i get my sallary Already won two times that demo-mission as Syria with Elite difficulty... Quite easy infact: After understanding (reading the briefing properly) that US needs to attack too. Earlier i thought that they were ordered just to block my movement. I seen laziness of targeting enemies on their own happening with not so dangerous enemies. Forexample T-72s seems to open fire instantly if they spot something like US tank. But i've been testing realtime-mode so i'm not certain (no review possibility). Balanced seems to run well with my rig too (lots of smoke causes lag), but high settings causes quite severe lag. Gunney 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Just played the demo and man is it fun! I would like to kill whoever made the camera pushing rather than left click dragging, because i'm used to that. The graphics are crap in today's standards but that doesn't mean the gameplay sucks(hell I still play the Close combat series). Urban combat is intense! I see this game being overlooked in the mainstream news but for strategy fans this is a nice game!
Shashman 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Performance was fine on my system (3800+,1gbDDR,7800GT) but my gosh... Sort the camera out please?? Way too long winded and sluggish camera control, but I liked the sound effects and the general gameplay. Although the control interface could be a bit better (bigger, clearer)
AWDrift 0 Posted July 30, 2007 I have to say I really admire the details in the game. The way units enter, exit, and fire from vehicles along with many other things is very impressive. ArmA could use alot of these details.

I really love how they stack up on buildings, throw a grenade, then enter the building killing whoever is in it.

This is with a E6600 at 3,4GHz, 2GB of memory and a GF8800GTS 640MB. I had the same, but I turned textures and world from the highest down just to 'improved' (ie. one higher than balanced) and it runs beautifully. Our systems are nearly identical, except my E6600 is at stock speed and my 8800GTS is the 320MB model. I am loving this game, the demo sold me and I've ordered it. I was a bit worried about not liking the context as much as the old WW2 era CM games but I have a lot of fun playing as the Syrians. In that single mission of the demo I reamed the Americans, only lost two vehicles and that was to bombardment. I drew them in with rocket fire and used a fold of ground to conceal my T72M's. Sprang them at the perfect moment and devastated the M1A2 SEP's from the side, then withdrew and flanked the Strykers which stood zero chance. The great thing about a Stryker is that when it goes up it takes most of the squad inside with it muwahahahahahahaha!!! My infantry didn't even fire a single shot!!!! Which I guess really means the AI is still the same old so prone to entrapment thing it was in the older CM games.
Speed123 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Does anyone know if the game includes a mission editor? Also, can you create add-ons for this game?
zwobot 22 Posted July 31, 2007 It has a mission editor, with scriptable AI. Actually the AI won't do anything without scripting afaik (comparable with ArmA but less complex). As for modding, I think textures are replacable and thats it. At least that is what was possible in previous CM games modding wise.
Second 0 Posted August 3, 2007 Goodbye ArmA (for sometime atleast)... I'm running away with this piece of gold. It's just has everything that ArmA (sadly) has not. I'm fulfilled

I mean you gotta want to shoot something yourself instead of telling people to do it for you =p Ofcourse someone can think ArmA only as FPS... I play and make missions to ArmA tactically. I expect (and try to mod it into ArmA, because of it's lacks) that AI/mission works somewhat in militarymanners and teachings under elements that are present in battlefield... both games are called simulations after all, so i see lots of similarities between these two. So no, i don't/can't see ArmA as FPS and i think i'm going to need break from it (been scripting ArmA about 1 and half years now) and play something that can be called complete. You call this complete? Maybe a complete joke? It doesnt look anywhere close to the pics on page 2 and the tutorial mission runs at 10 fps on a E6600, 2 gig pc6400 and 8800GTX... not even the intro movie works ffs.. And the interface with tiny icons, i mean what kind of interface is that?
