MV-80 Osprey III

Recommended Posts

Okay, since the behaviour on the "Sole" topic has gone out of hand... I'll start a new topic and see if people can't keep thier mouths in a respectable tone.

First

1) Textures:  I'm not primarily concerned with them at this current time.  That right now is the "easy" part, compared to everything else I still have to yet get to.  Quit bugging me about it, I can see them too.

2) Vertical stabilizers:  I don't know why it's so important.  It doesn't mean anything in OFP/VBS1 since it uses the Helicopter flight model.  But so you will be quiet, I added some (see below)

3) Movable nacelles:  Let me get to that bridge when I cross it okay?  I got my priorities set in place on what I want accomplished first.  Constant nagging questions are going to be ignored.  I'm 29 years old, I can think for myself on what I need to do.

4) The above goes for everything else.  If you want something so bad, there's the beta on OFP.info, find it, get it, and work on it yourself.

5) This won't be done anytime soon,  it is workable (very workable...), but like Sole's original, it is still beta.

Next....

Got the gear doors semi working, just have to work on the right side, as it's just not wanting to work with me.

And so you all can sleep well at night:

No they aren't going to be more detailed at the moment.

You think its possible to get a better tail picture. Cant see what's what there really. And I found the previous design without the stabilizers cooler. Reminded me of the Orca Fighters or the Ospreys from GHost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Orca Fighters?  I have the first season of Stand Alone Complex, though the "Osprey" has a more conventional tail layout.  Though I can get a couple more pictures of the tail section:

I think if you are going to release it looking like that, you should "market" it not as an Osprey, but as a fictional creation of your own, which it is, really huh.gif

Yeah, but I would think "MV-80 Osprey III" makes it different, doesn't it? Kinda like the B-52 Stratofortress and the EB-52 Megafortress from Flight of the Old Dog.  It shares some of the components of the base aircraft (general shape, etc.) yet, is totally different.

I mean for real, where do you see "V-22" anywhere?  Hell it's on it's own classname......

Maybe it can be of some use for you : look at the Wanzer pack from Gigan .

The author, made a fantastic script to allow one of his wanzer , that is defined and move as a helicopter class, to behave like a plane by an action menu choice.

Certainly it would be perfect for any kind of Osprey.

Orca Fighters from C&C Tiberian Sun.

Too bad nobody havent done thei SAC "Ospreys" would be kinda neat really.

Despite that I liked the old tail section this one doesnt look too shabby either. Though from the previous picture I thought they were more angeled like the tail section of the Harrier.

Its looking elite dude. I dont want to be a bitch but the old tail looked cleaner, and more futeristic. I will play arround with this addon for sure. Combined with the BMI blackops dudes, and some very modern weapons this will be nice for some missions in the year 2020!

I LOOOOVE inlove.gif  the texture on the backramp!!  rofl.gif   wink_o.gif

Maybee you could make somekind of autohover thingy like with the blackhawks when they let ppl out with fastrope. So the bird stays in the same place while your gunner shoots the crap out of the enemy!  crazy_o.gif

EDIT

Ok I just scrolled up and when like crazy_o.gif cuz...

I was thinking about Orca's the spaced out attack helo in command and conquor. It has like jet engines or well engines like modern zeppelins have. In a "nacelle"? huh.gif

Well anyway I dont know if you really want to go nuts with the SCIFI here. But you could also change the rotors to like sort of jetengines. A bit like airliners have, but other shapes. You could have the turning fanblades...

Just an idea... because with the elite new tail the "old fashion" rotor blades also look a bit outdated! smile_o.gif

@Sanctuary: I got the Wanzer pack, and have to actually take the time to go over it, but I must say, it sure is one of the most interesting addons you can find...

Nope, sticking with the "old style" rotors. More due to laziness than anything else.

Reworked the main gear bays, I'm sick of animations, and made it simpler. Plus these two shots show the proposed camo scheme, not final, WIP:

I think I'm thinking too much anime...

I tried to fix the nose up problem, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure it out. At first I thought it was the vertexes for the rotors... nope, no worky, so for now it's still going to have that profile.

Cept for the tail it doesn't seem that far fetched. I have a book with the original concept for the Osprey. It's turret is more forward and only has 2 weapon pylons. But it has the potential for limited support / defense / attack. Not sure if those systems will see light of day in the real thing though.

If ya want fantasy.

There was a corny tv show awhile back that had a jumbo jet VTOL .......think it was a new version of Knight Rider.....or viper.

@Thunder Bunny: I've seen something similar, it was ATF, a book by Bill Gunston.  I think it was the one with a hybrid AH-1 cockpit and general shape, the art was depicting the "gunship" protecting a "standard" osprey in a CSAR role.  I would put the gun more forward, but the problem is the nose-up attitude it has.  I'm having somebody (hopefully) look into that.

@Ingram: Well, I was contemplating adding wheels in the rear (like the Harrier) on the rear tailfins, but so far when it lands it's not necessary.

Hi, since you are in the process of making some evolution around the MV-80, maybe you would be interested in seeing this project.

Four egines are better than two, no?

It's definitely an interesting concept, but I'm still working my way around this project..

Thanks to RKSL-Rockape, the nose-high attitude is gone, from this

to this:

osprey35.jpg

And currently I'm PLANNING on doing something sort of a hatchway in the middle of the aircraft to effect some kind of fast-rope method, but it's not a priority, but is considered (for the future, once I get further along) in my plan book.  But so far you can still do the old "bust in and assault" method such as this:

Right now, this and alot of stuff is on hold. I'm burned out from Drill Sergeant School (LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Week) And also, I'm still trying to get a hold of how things will pan out while in school. Honestly, Drill Sergeant School is my main focus, and generally as time goes on, will have started to see what goes on, and adjust from there. I don't have much time on the hands as the past few weeks, messing around being a Candidate, so one of these days, I may get around to working on something, provided I get some sort of sleep.
