BWMod Leopard 2A6 released

Hi everyone.

We're glad to announce the release of our Leopard 2A6 main battle tank. The model was made by RBVV and skinned by Snorri.

Here's the description from the readme:

The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank that entered service with the

German armed forces in 1979, being developed following the failed

US-German MBT 70 project. It is today in service with the armies of

Austria, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland,

Sweden and Spain, with over tanks 3,200 produced. The Finnish Army

is buying 124 and the Polish Army 128 used Leopard 2A4 tanks from

Germany. Greece has also decided to purchase a Leopard 2 variant.

The Leopard 2 has a crew of four, the vehicle commander,

a driver, a gunner and a loader. Combat weight is nearly 60 tons.

Since the time of its introduction, the Leopard 2 underwent

several improvement programmes resulting in the Leopard 2A4 in 1985.

Beginning in 1995, the KWS Phase II programme resulted in the

Leopard 2A5 with improved armor protection, an all-electric turret

drive, an independent commander's thermal sight and other

improvements. In 2001, the first Leopard 2A6 was handed over. This

latest version (KWS Phase I) differs from the A5 in having a main

gun with a longer barrel (L/55 instead of L/44), enabling the A6 to

fire more powerful kinetic energy rounds.

The main gun is a 120 mm smoothbore gun developed by Rheinmetall.

42 rounds are stowed in total consisting of the DM53/DM63 kinetic

energy round (APFSDS-T) and the DM22 high-explosive round (HE-MP-T),

the latter replacing the old DM12A1 multipurpose round. Additionally,

there is a coaxial machine gun and an air defence machine gun.

Although already in service for more than 25 years, there are currently

no plans to develop a follow-on to the Leopard, which has proved to be

one of the best main battle tanks currently fielded.

Some last words:

We tried to be as realistic as possible concerning armor and damage values.

This way, the included T80 version of BIS (IIRC it is a T80M) is no match for the Leopard 2A6. You should use other tanks to fight.

Additionaly, during the internal beta testing of the Leopard 2A6, the addon pretty frequently caused CtD effects (crash-to-desktop). Unfortunately, until now we have been unable to determine what exactly caused this problem. Since the latest internal versions the CtD effects appear to be fixed, although it is unclear what resolved the problem, or if it is resolved at all.

/edit: @CTD: do you use ogg or wav files? convert them to wss! it helped a lot on the t-55s, there do not happen CTDs anymore.

- NATO and Winter camo versions

- DKMs great Suspension script on the Single Player versions ("BWMod - Armored (SP) vehicleclass)

- Smoke launcher script, which should launch smoke grenades in the direction the turret is heading

This looks absolutely awesome, but i've been having trouble with ofp since I got a new computer. Only select addons will work for me, most addons cause the old "cannot create 3d device" error. Hopefully this will work.

Very very nice work. I like the Anti Personel round very much. The only thing I will just mention... (it's not a complaint), is that it's a shame you didn't update and fix the buggy SCARS model instead of creating a new one as the SCARS one seems to be a little better looking texture and model-wise when comparing them side by side - but perhaps it's not as accurate as the BWMOD one, either way it's nice to have a fully functioning Leopard that isn't from the Lowlands Mod. Will definitely be using this from now on, but will miss the old model all the same.

In the desert island of the editor i put 4 Leo2A6 in line formation with a seek&destroy waypoint opposed to 4 T90 in the same condition, facing each other.

The result of the first test is 4 Leo2A6 destroyed , 3 T90 destroyed and a damaged T90 surviving.

Maybe more battle test would see a +/- similar result showing some "balance" exist between those 2 addons.

If you need a good OPFOR that can resist and fight equally to this tank, the Sigma T90 is balanced to use with this superb Leopard

(note different size of BW and RBVV on the left and LLW and one more - cannot remember whose - models on the right)

Inferior looks very good, increasing tank armor values seems to be a good choice. Exterior textures seems blurry when comparing with other models, but more accurate.  Do you think about differing parts to make Leo very hard from front and more vulnerable sides?

CTDs are very disturbing

(KO here - imobilise it/destroy main gun, forcing crew to bail out)

OTOH 2 Leclerc/T90 hits would kill new Leo. There seems to be some balance here, but still lacking some comon armour values system...

This tank is awesome.  BWMod is probably my favourite, it's just a shame I always get CTD's with the MAN pack.  Anyways, very nice tank.

beautifull works guys. Simply amazing. One of the recent Top Gear series was a show off of the Leo 2 incredible features. This tank is as cool as in reality.

sweet tank, but am I the only one who gets the BI logo on the sides of the turret and on the top of the back of the tank? Anyone know how to get rid of this?

other than that, this tank is awesome!

oh yeah dont forget the barrel recoil to the feature list.
