New game: 1944: D-day

Recommended Posts

Time to bring out the trash and other arcade games.

This is a OFP site dam it. So if anyone has missed this I think

you should check it out. Maybe those that enjoy( i didnt)WWII online should check this one out.

Not only a mod for HL2 and Bf2 but also an own retail game. Dunno if BF2 or HL2 engine really can manage this game?

1944: D-day

(1944 D-Day: Operation Overlord features over 160x160 km of accurately recreated terrain.) Hmm that is not so huge though or is it? Dunno how huge landscape WWII-online has....

Gold Beach was around 15km. So thats like 10.6 beaches put together in a line. But remember there was only 5 beaches that were landed on.

Would be good if it starts at the proper beginning with the paratroopers landind. An it would be nice to actually play a proper WW2 game from the German side. Wolfensteing and shit like that don't count.

Check the FAQ out!!

Quote[/b] ]What is the career system like?

The career system will cover all divisions that make up a nations armed forces. This means the player can make a career in the army, which will allow them to progress up through the army, as any person would have during WW2; the more training you take and the more experience you get, the more access you’ll get to other classes and ranks. For example tank commander, squad leader, battalion commander and so on.

Nice

You know planning changes over time? Do not get your hopes up.

http://www.1944game.com/mods.html

Quote[/b] ]The full details of the mods have yet to be decided, but what we do know is that the maps will be small, in the region of 1km x1km or a little over. The same system that is used in the main game to track the AI's movements around the map will be used. This will provide a unique system for units moving in and out of the battlefield allowing for more dynamic gameplay.

Full gameplay details will be finalised in July.

Billybob: lets just buy the retails game so we don't have 1km by 1km maps

Quote[/b] ]So can you be a Medic?

Yes, the Medic is a rather unique unit, their primary goal is to try and ensure that units are safe, and can be extracted from hot-zones, but during certain events the medic’s role is simply ensuring that each injured unit has enough morphine to pass on in peace. If that isn’t your cup of tea of course the AI can handle it.

This honestly does sounds awesome. If they pull this off it could be the only ww2 ground sim that mixes graphics and realism and infantry! wow_o.giftounge_o.gif

well that's something I'd like to see in OFP2 as well. like ultra realistic medics. not just drilling air over the wounded and *kazam* he's CUUUURED biggrin_o.gif

this game really might be worth checking out (if I don't get bored with military stuff during my service that's gonna begin within a month tounge_o.gif)

But old in what way? This is a long way from Cod, red orchestra or BIA. I was so disappointed over Bia by the way.... sad_o.gif

I hope 1944: D-day atleast delivers some it promises, a real WWII sim.

So, if Im understanding correctly, the 1944 maps for HL2 and BF2 mods is going to be small? *lol* I knew it.....engines couldnt cope with it.

Virtual battlefield system for life! biggrin_o.gif

@Bordoy: dunno about those weekends biggrin_o.gif in finland we get every other weekend off tops tounge_o.gif but I hope I can get my hands on some new stuff biggrin_o.gif including this one

Right lads, the whole map will NOT be loaded by computer or that would take some crazy RAM amount. There will be 'invisible walls' of some kind but i am not sure how it will work out TBH.

Every weekend off in the UK as long as;

1: Not on excercise

2: Not on guard duty

3: Not needed for some reason

Why, oh why, again Normandy sad_o.gif

It's like WW2 consisted of no more than the invasion of France (or liberation of France, whichever you prefer) sad_o.gif

I agree with Hunter.  Haven't they flogged Normandy into little ribbons now?  MOH:AA, Call of Duty, BF1942, Day of Defeat, BIA.  What's the next one going to be called?  "Landing on the beaches of Normandy?", "6th June - D-Day?", "Omaha - The Game?".

Why don't they cover El-Alamein, the capture of Remargen or other famous actions?  Or the Northwest Pacific "Island-Hopping" campain, or MacArthur's "Return" to the Philippines?  Burma, Greece, Kiska, Crete, Malaya, Iwo Jima, New Guinea, Okinawa, Saipan, Ulithi, Gualdacanal, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Tarawa-so many battles and campaigns which could be recreated and teach people a bit of the history behind the greatest war of all time.  I think everyone has the picture about the Normandy landings, great as they were, by now.

By the way, how come I can't get my Signature pic working? Is there a certain size restriction??

I agree.. If they want to make a realistic game they should pick something beyond the mainstream scenarios. Not something that has been covered by Hollywood or arcade games hundreds of times but some battles hardly mentioned in the history books. That's what war is, most days are not historical but plain war.

We are currently workin on Normal Mapped versions and characters that will really push the engines we are using. Bear in mind that Reality Engine can have characters with 16k + tris and HL2 can handle characters upto 8000 tirs if not more, this is all subjective on hardware.

Yer i agree with you and what everyone else is saying. Would like to see a different scenario to Operation Overlord. And like you say, there are many out there, plus it doesn't have to even be a WW2 game.

Not World War Two??! wow_o.gif . Bordoy, snap out of it! Have a drink of water, quick.

What you say is true, but for sheer scale and variety World War Two is unbeatable, yet everyone still manages to focus on Normandy!

There aren't many undeveloped military eras left undeveloped these days; there's the U.S. Civil War, but someone's making a mod for UT of that; there's the Great War, but noone has the balls to make a game about either the Western Front, Gallipoli, or the Near East. And then there's Korea. All else has been done or is inconsequential. I'd personally like to see a First World War Game, see if I could beat the odds every time I went over the top tounge_o.gif .

Hi all

When I started this project some 4+ years ago Normandy wasnt over done, I will be the first to admit that now, Normandy is not my first choice, but given the road I took back then, I decided to finish what I started.

Hence we are developing this in a Normandy Scenario. Perhaps the saving grace for this is that All of Normandy is covered, not just a simple 1km patch of road, or some small routes through a town.

Instead we are accurately developing 160x160km of terrain that the player can walk around. Its a 100% persistent world, with all AI movements tracked and monitored.

We have a full career system. Great Physics, Realistic 24 Hour Atmospheric Lighting, Adapting Weather.

250,000 units to Choose From

Over 250 Playable Vehicles

Over 70 Weapons

Every nation, not just the Usuall US 101st, but also All Brittish Units, All US units, French Resistance all German Units. You name it we have researched all aspects from all angles, considering all sides.

Now that alone I believe warrants doing Normandy, and doing it right. Not following one squad, or one soldier but covering the duties and missions, objectives and activities during D-Day.

Its a tall order but we have a dedicated and structured team, and we put in the hours.

Dont worry once Normandy is done, we will get as many mission packs and scenarios out as we can, so as to give the greatest level of variety. We do intend to cover all of Europe, The Eastern Front, Africa, Italy, Norway, Finland, Pacific and many other areas.

So be patient, and if you have any questions you can either pop across to our forums and ask, or simply ask them here, and I will try and keep and eye on this thread.

Sir, my humble and sincere apologies.  Thankyou for gracing us with this explanation - I am now content.  Please note the post I left on your forum about the Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mark III S.M.L.E.! If you guys do pull this off then you're looking at a winner, though I think you already know that.

Should you happen to need more researchers, give me a buzz-my offhand knowledge is superior to a great many history professors   biggrin_o.gif .

I agree, Normandy has been totally coded to peices over the years - however, no ones really done it well yet, which is a shame, given depictions from films such as Saving Private Ryan. smile_o.gifsad_o.gif
