1980's SEAL units

Recommended Posts

Looking good Miss Cleo, looking very good indeed. If you're looking for weapons for the SEALs, check out this list. Its a (very long) list of the weapons currently contained in the update to my weapons pack, which I will be releasing shortly (in a matter of weeks).

This would be a nice feature for these seals!

Quote[/b] ]I would eventually like to add non-SEAL weapons like an M-16A1 with 30 rd magazine and birdcage flash hider, M-3 greasegun(for armored crews), 1911a1, early style MP-5,M-67 recoiless rifle, and M-220 "Flash".

This sounds like a nice weapons selection. I don't think I've ever seen anyone offer to make an M202A1 Flash before, would be quite entertaining to have one. I had the opportunity to fire one of those old things, it was...interesting. I still have a lot of my weapons manuals, I can send copies to anyone who needs them for this purpose. They are all in PDF format, except for a couple that I was told I'm not allowed to distribute. But none of my weapons manuals are prohibited, and include a lot of interesting drawings that might prove useful to modellers. I can also hunt down pics if needed to help as well. The M202 is sometimes hard to find data on, but I have a few pics somewhere. The manual has B&W pics, but real bad quality. Although the drawings are very useful.

Anyone not familiar with this weapon, it's not really a "standard" rocket launcher. It's a four-shot, semi-automatic launcher with a replaceable cartridge. The M74 incendiary rocket is its primary ammunition, this weapon sort of replaced the use of the flamethrower. It has little fragmentary or concussion damage, but will seriously put a hurtin' on grunts or light vehicles. And having seen some of the WP effects in the UA arty and IED addons, I'm sure a decent incendiary effect could be made for this addon as well.  smile_o.gif

I'm also interested in the models of the black bdu units.

As I was thinking of the situations where they would use a black bdu, I thought about boarding operations and urban ops.

But in those situations it would be likely to be wearing other headgear like balaclava and no backpacks. So I'm wondering if you're using the same models for the black bdu guys or different models.

(please do correct me if I well, thought wrong tounge_o.gif )

here is a pic of the Black BDU units. The textures are currently being overhauled, they are too light and i screwed up the placement of the Y-straps on the back. I will probably include a unit with a black boonie and one with just a ski mask.

Great models man. And a Lee Marvin face is always good, the movie was a good action flick. Don't think Delta used motorcycles with little rockets on 'em though tounge_o.gif

Remind me of the movie Navy SEALs too, they had black bdu's there too, except in the end where they used civie rags.

Nice movies to watch, but sometimes too Hollywood.

As I said, nice action flicks, but offcourse too Hollywood.

1st one had some elements that were realistic, but offcourse it's no BHD.

An insult to OFP? Lee Marvin made some nice WW2 movies(outdated now offcourse). A couple faces I would really like to see are Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe(Barnes&Elias in platoon) and Sean Bean. Is it hard to make OFP faces? Any tutorials on it?

well the M-60e3 is from the SJB TOS seals pack, i wont be including it.

As of right now ive made the following weapons:

XM-177e2, XM-177e2/M203, M653, M653/M203, Uzi, Uzi SD.

The M16A1 with the silencer is a work in progress, Ill have to ask Laser before i release it since I only asked for permission to use his CAR-15/733 model and I dont want to over step my bounds. Ive also made silenced/scoped XM-177e2 variants that probably wont be released because i dont think they existed in reality.

The SEALs will probably be dependant on Lasers US weapons pack for their M-60s and M-60e3s as well as their handguns. I really like Jackals SEAL weapon pack, but for compatibilty purposes i dont think ill be using it, more people seem to be running Lasers weapons and i dont want the SEALs to be dependant on 20 other addons. The only catch there is that Jackals pack has the only decent early style M-249 made so far, so unless Laser decides to add one, no SAWs for these units. Maybe i'll see if Jackal will let me borrow it for my 80s weapons pack.

Do you mean the M249E1, ie the version with a tubular stock and not the solid stock?

The is a version with a solid stock and no optics in Lasers pack.

The M249 with the solid stock is the newer model, also known as the PIP (Product Improvement Program) version. When I was first assigned the SAW as an Automatic Rifleman, I got the first version and then later was issued the newer model.

The model used in Laser's pack is in fact the new version. I haven't seen Jackal's pack yet, but from what I understand is that the version included is the older model. The PIP version modifies the barrel, handguard, stock, pistol grip, buffer, and sights. I'll also post a few pics below so you can see some of the difference, for those not familiar with this weapon as much.

PIP Version

For some basic photos of a few variants, you can check out this site here.

It would be great if Jackal would let you borrow his weapon for your use, but if not there are still other options. If one of the current M249 addon makers would like to convert their current model into the older version, there is not really a whole lot of changes that would need to be done. Maybe Laser would be kind enough to lend the models from his pack to someone that can do this change, in case he doesn't have the time himself?

The version included in (the latest version of) my pack is similar to the one pictured below:

http://sjb.gotf.net/images/fn_minimi_m249.jpg

I've also included the PARA version similar to that pictured here:

If you still wish to use the models and such forth Miss_Cleo, drop me a PM and we can sort something out.

Edit: For some reason, the forum doesn't seem to like my img tags and keeps removing the images from my posts  rock.gif so instead I'll host the files, and link to them.

Try it now Ranger, the site disliked direct links (understandable I guess), so I've hosted the two image files on my webspace.

The BAS ranger pack has an early m249 minimi with the skeleton stock. Its not used on any of the units but it is in the pack.

BAS_JM249 IIRC

Thanks, I've wondered which one was the PIP and which one was the original version. smile_o.gif Only ever used the Para version but that was a nice experiance. biggrin_o.gif

Shar have made an awesome skeleton stock M249 for SFP4. If you want I can ask if he'd share the model with you Miss Cleo.

Still wondering how frequent the use of the M249 was among SEALs around that time.I usually see the M60e3 in documentaries and pictures. For the M16A2M203, a weapon which was often used too, I can suggest Laser's US weapon pack.  Maybe update the sounds a little.

You mentioned a version with tigerstripe camo a while back, are you still thinking about that? Could be the definative US SF NAM addon then.

if you do create them in tiger stripe please make a version without backpacks (or dropable ones at least)
