Bushranger BETA release

Recommended Posts

I like theese helos a lot, the model is good and all arnament variations is cool. The minigun mounts I think are very well done. I also really like the openable doors and would really like to have that on all variants. If you change anything about the openable doors, I think that removing the option to open the pilot and co-pilot doors above a certain hight is a compromise that both those who like openable doors and those who do not can live with. Another variant would be to comment out the door opening actions in the config and then those who want to have openable doors just have to unpbo, uncomment and repbo.

I have some small problems with theese choppers that I wonder if somebody else has encountered? Sometimes I get a error message stating "can't load texture" and then OFP just quits. Furthermore the flash from the machineguns (all variants) are grey.

I was very happy to discover this addon that seemed to just pop out of nowhere! biggrin_o.gif

Can't believe how many variants are included in this pack. The level of detail is great. Thanks for another high-quality addon! smile_o.gif

pretty much everything on this addon is a step above the other hueys that have been released..well except the sound... I can't stand to listen to it for more than a couple mins... it sounds nothing like a real huey..or helo for that matter sad_o.gif I wish the author would change that in the next release....

I tend to agree on the sound. It also might depend on your soundcard, and if you use hardware acceleration and or EAX, etc. I don't care for the sound much either. I really prefer the sound used with the Nam Pack 2 Hueys (and the UH-1H Special Ops by SelectThis)... Even if it's not absolutely 100% accurate sounding, that sound just works, and has a good, clean sound to it. And that one sounds very much like any real Huey I've ever heard.

I think it's also nice when all your Huey's on the battlefield sound pretty much the same. smile_o.gif

If it's not changed in an update, I'll most likely just swap it with the sound from the Special Ops UH-1H, just for my own personal use.

One small bug I've noticed is there are some flashing texture issues when viewed from above through the moving rotors.

This 'flashing texure' is an easy fix.

Just 'move-to-top' the rotorblades and tailrotor in O2. (faces/move top). Just do a search in the O2 threads and you'll find more than enough info on this matter.

About the shadows and stuff;

This looks extremely ugly under the wrong lightconditions, CSJ. I hope you can fix this. You did use smooth/sharp edges and F5 (recalculate normals)? This should fix most of this stuff. The doors are seperate and AFAIK you will allways have some sort of wrong shadows and stuff when it's seperate, but when using the above you can decrease it.

Or else indeed make em just part of the bird so the can't opened. This fixes the shadowing.

The detail;

You only need higher detailed instruments in the pilot and gunner LOD and perhaps cargo LOD. This is not such a problem and those LOD's can be a bit heavier. Remember that you already save a lot of point because in those LOD's ou can remove the exteriour (including the entire tail and top, which seem to be quite a lot of points).

@ CSJ

Thank you for this  UH1 "Huey".Very good job. Only one,to weak engine sound. Sounds like washmachine, not like  "Huey".( see at SEBNAMPACK). Please - check it.  BTW - sorry for my  bad english.

Need to recheck the lower lods on the unarmed verssions of the charlie model, in the distance the rocket tubes sometimes show and vanish on a unarmed model. Wish could give you better sounds for them, the C B had roughtly the same engine and sound the same, the engine got progressivly larger in the bigger models to deal with the larger chopper and heavier weights. You can alsmost fit and A model in the cargo area of a H model.

Large powerplant the rotors became wider and longer making a even deeper hup hup sound in flight. Scary being abler to tell which model was flying before even seeing it just from the sound.

@Bobcatt666

Thanx mate, there was a duplicate named selection in the 4th Res. Have fixed for later release. Rechecked the rest and seemed ok so hopefully this was the cause of your problem.

Interested to know which was your last Unit that was still using the D's?

Don't know about you, but I tend to fly between, 3 and 7 meters, when I'm a pilot. this usually keeps, the AA off my back smile_o.gif

Set the doors to shut above 2 - 2.5 meters, that would be perfect.

The doors at ATM will stay manual but instead of removing the open/shut opt from 'action menu' at 5 m as they are now I will make it 2 to 3 meters.

Re Seating.

My orig model seating arrangement for slicks was

Quote[/b] ]

Pilot                      Door Gunner

          Cargo  Cargo

          Cargo  Cargo

          Cargo  Cargo

          Cargo  Cargo

co-pilot                 Crew Chief

The co-pilot and Crew Chief would be taken up by cargo 1 and cargo 2 posi's.

Personally I figure this is better, more realistic.

Obviuosly co-pilot and Crew Chief  would be grp with crew and not cargo in editor.

Simular seating in Medevac.

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

..the rear, forward-facing seat in Bell 205s/Bell 212s (ie UH1D onwards...) has 5 places. On a cold day with little fuel on board, you'd also be able to put an extra pax on the seats either side of the transmission (ie next to the gunner and the crew chief).

Noooooo!

Better to leave the Co-pilot and crew-chief seats without a proxy. In your plan you make those guys part of the chopper-group, but that would mean you can only have 3 choppers in a group.

And a player that decides he doesn't want to go through all that trouble will find out that two of the cargo end up on non-cargo seats (like the heavy manchinegunner completely geared up sitting in the copilot seat).

Almost every OFp chopper addon has left the copilot seat empty and I think this is indeed the best way. The crewchiefseat is perhaps an option for an extra cargo-pos, but please just leave the co-pilot seat empty.

I understand what you are saying.

It is easy to fill these positions with gamelogics when not being used.

Maybe I will just do my copy this way. wink_o.gif

@ThudBlunderQ8

Vietnam, in general a troop-lift huey only carried 6 to 7 geared troops at a time (Probably 9 or more Sth Viets). I made the cargo number 8 to make the total 12 which is an OFP unit.

The only case I have heard of more ppl being lifted  was when Alb 9 crossed the fence to casevac 18 Cambodians in one lift. (When I get the chance I will confirm this.)

I am sure there are other cases, specially with the Yanks that obviously did alot more lifts.

I would say these cases would all be extreme Evacs or Casevacs.

I'm not sure on how many soldiers they would carry. Fact is that it seems to have been very common to sit on the side with you legs hanging outside. But I can't possibly tell you what the hollywood-factor of this is.

The US did a great job in Nam with completely overloading the Huey's. Especially the gunships were extremely heavy and had problems lifing off when fully loaded with ammo. This is a bit of a problem since you did add cargoseat to em. But I think this where you can be a bit unrealistic, since you can't lock/unlock cargo seats depending on the amount of ammo carried.

on a sidenote;

they did a great job in overloading the vehicles aswell.

btw;

You huey's look awesome and the general shape of the huey is extremely well done. I'm not sure if I posted this already;

-the shield surrounding the pilot seats are a bit dark and a strange color. I'm not sure, but I think these were just grey/black metal plates.

Something of interest..

The Charlie model "Super Huey" the one with 48 tube launcher and the  M5 grenade launcher.

This thing fully loaded apparently would not leave the ground.

@Cpt. FrostBite. Stop editing your reply while I am trying to reply to it. tounge_o.gif

The guards around the seats, I have seen various colours and textures.

I was thinking of doing a flat deck resup huey. Alot of the slicks didn't have the seats in them anyway but getting the AI to sit on the floor got a bit untidy.

This will be easy, just 6 or so lines in cpp. Good idea wink_o.gif

Yup I've heard and read stories about them actually making a sort of bad sliding take-off when fully loaded. Many of the gunships had serious problems when fully loaded. Kind of funny actually.

But it must be said that without those choppers the infantry wouldn't have had a chance. The gunships did a great job and if you read the veteran-sites and see the amount of medals they recieved there is only one conclusion; heroes, every single one of them.

Not editing my post? Hell you just did the same to me (really) biggrin_o.gif

Indeed many did not have seats. This is so they could be used for many jobs. Birds that were used to fly in the grunts than returned to drop of ammo and later got back to carry out the wounded (if dustoff huey's were to bussy) or pick guys up after a patrol.

If you want to remove the seats than look at the BAS blackhawk for some good animations for troops sitting on the floor. Perhaps if you ask them you can even use those animations.

I think the problem with putting the seats in the hueys was if the grunts got to comfy they wouldn't want to get out. smile_o.gif

Actually clean deck meant less accidents. Would be nothing worse then making a leap from chopper and having you gear snare on some obstruction.

Quote[/b] ]BAS blackhawk for some good animations for troops sitting on the floor

I don't own any BAS stuff, is it still obtainable?

Oh yes, absolutely and an absolute must-have. Although the mod is now dead (sort of) it will remain a legend of OFP and they made awesome stuff.

The reincarnation of the good ol' BAS site can be found here;

http://www.ballisticaddonstudios.com/classic.php

Former members that could give you an answer on using their work in your addon (if you want to) can be, DeadmeatXM2, Tigershark, TJ, ect. Just anone with a BAS sign in their signature.

Thanx Cpt. FrostBite, I will have a squiz at it.

---------------

Ppl have asked about the Rappel script used in pic.

"MULTIROPE-RAPPEL by Blip "

Just adapted to my hueys and uses CSJRope.

Also I have adjusted

"HELICOPTER TAIL ROTOR FAILURE SCRIPT by Vektorboson "

This is a great script - looks good.

PARAMEDIC.sqs    by  AliMag - 03/2003

Another great script.

I have worked this to be called by player.

Use radio to called for Medevac,

click on map to give Dustoff a PZ.

When Dustoff lands two medics will collect injured/dead then transport to Field hospital etc.

Needs some work on PZ section landing but

Hopefully someone can improve on this.

For ppl interested I have made very basic demo mission to be used in Editor (not sp mission folder)

Each script, so you can cut'n'paste into missions.
