Mini-Earth Map

I think it'd be a pretty cool idea for someone to recreate a version of earth (with the 7 continents) all in one map. However it would be a much much smaller scale of the earth and such. I'm not sure how the map editor works but couldn't you take satillite images and have them transformed into OFP terrain? Anyways I think it'd be cool for the large towns represent large cities, have mountain ranges, different vegatation and climate for each region, etc. Or even have seperate maps for each continent.

I think that is a really great idea, and maybe towns to represent major cities. lol I want to learn to make maps now!

It's an interesting idea but it's more of an idea for OFP2. You could try to do it but it would be very unrealistic and I don't you could. A 3 town radius would have to represent, for example Africa to fit the whole world. That would be wierd. If it would be possible I would love it but I don't think it's a realistic idea.

I thought I heard of an idea similar to this a while back, but they wanted to make site specific islands just for cutscenes and stuff. They mentioned making the kremlin, and other land marks of the USSR and US.

But that would be cool for this map to make site specific buildings like that.

It would be a grat idea!But in ofp you can only make islands.And i guess noone can wait until ofp2 (comes out next year or in 2006).

But someone could make the most known islands what exist in real life.

maybe someone should start with just making a single country in miniature size. Like the australian island that was being made but im not sure if it is still gonig....anyone know?

Let's make a Saaremaa island. The biggest island in Estonia.

I like my idea because i live in Estonia But i can't make islands The biggest town on Saaremaa is Kuressaare.And it has several more small towns and many villages.And if you want to see the map of this island,you must find the map of Europe,then find Estonia(it's

south from Finland), and then look a little bit west (only about 20km).

Using satellite data is quite possible via the usual Microdem>Terragen>Wilbur>WRP import way. Problem is that you'll come up with a very flat terrain and will have to do a lot of editing.

If you would really import let's say africa for a single 50km island without the other seven continents, the highest elevation (Mount Kilimanjaro) would be about 35m high and occupy the whole of virtual Tanzania at it's base...

Nevertheless a few islands with totally different flavor on one map would be something

Terragen is easy to use to make a base for a map, I couldnt find real satellite data to put into it though.

I made about 1 1/2 maps with WrpTool, its easy to learn, but it can be a long, sometimes tedious process, I found trying to work out the best places to blend textures so the map looked nice and stuff was hard, also I realised after my first try that the map I made was far too flat.

But it is easy to learn, and there are lots of cool buildings to use now, so if you think you'd like to try you definatley should, its about a millon times easier than trying to learn to make an addon.

Maybe just make a model island of a small island like cuba or what i dreamed of having of OPF an alcatraz island. Alcatraz you could acually build to scale

And drown... No, that's why they really didn't just jump out and swim to the mainland. The water flow was so... Ahh, don't know the english word for that... Well the water was so powerful, if you understand.

But maybe you should run for a police boat and escape with it?

Alcatraz is smaller than Desert Island

Alcatraz is extremaly small. Not that interesting other then the historical value. It would be interesting to have it in game but not that fun. I've been to Alcatraz like 1 year ago and it's just a bunch of old buildings on a small island. But the history part of it is really interesting.

EDIT: Nice Texas map....I just recommend making it a bit wider and then it would be perfect.
