Evishion 0 Posted November 28, 2004 Hey. Im having much lagg with especially Y2K3, so i Im gonna buy 1gb ram on monday, Will i feel any much different with the FPS? I got: 2500+@2.34ghz 512ram(get 1gb on monday) 9800pro the 3d card is way good enough for OFP... so its the CPU or ram... or both i think.. will i be able to gain some fps with twice much ram ?? -Thx
dm 9 Posted November 28, 2004 Simply put, yes. You'll gain a few FPS, but the main bonus is that the mini-lags every few seconds will go away too.

Homefry 0 Posted November 28, 2004 And... you won't just notice a performance gain in OFP, you'll be able to do more things at once, and have more things going on at the same time. Simply put, more RAM is one of the best things for your PC.
Evishion 0 Posted November 28, 2004 hehehe nice! cant wait to remove some of the lagg
Guest Posted November 28, 2004 Is the OFP engine not one of the reasons it lags anyway? I know it's not a very modern engine in comparison to others, e.g. UnrealEd but does the engine not allocate a certain amount of memory to the program itself in relation to your specifications? bn880 5 Posted November 28, 2004 Makes a big difference, especially if you add a lot of addons. And just think, you will be able to play IL2 (flight sim) in a civilized manner.
Grizzlie 0 Posted November 28, 2004 Would be nice if your MB has Dual Channel ability. It speeds up RAM acces
qUiLL 0 Posted November 28, 2004 i also have a question nearly along the same lines would going from SD ram to DDR make a huge difference? ive wanted to do that for quite a while but havnt found a good enough reason since it will require replacing the motherboard too, which will be hell my comp: 1.7ghz p4, 128mb ddr geforce ti4200, 80gb hd, 512mb sdram

I would save money and simply invest in what's cheaper but from a reliable manufacturer. Note that it is important that all of your memory sticks should be of the same type and speed and from the same manufacturer. So if you're going to add to what you've already got, make sure the new memory stick match your existing ones.
PeterEyres 0 Posted November 28, 2004 Samsung do really good stable RAM that can even be oveclocked. Å60 for 512mb over in the UK I've already got one, and will be getting another stick at Christmas.
Artak 0 Posted November 28, 2004 I've bought dozens of memory from Kingston. Always works. Quote[/b] ]would going from SD ram to DDR make a huge difference? No. If you've got 128Mb of SDRAM and you replace it with 128Mb of DRR-SDRAM, you can hardly see any difference. In addition you'd propably have to get a new motherboard since only a few motherboards have slots for both SDRAM and DDR-SDRAM.The size matters most, not the type. Still if you want to get the most out of your PC, DDR is the way to go.. double datarate doesn't stand for nothing. Also, I think DDR is already cheaper than good old SDRAM? 512Mb is what you need. 1024Mb is what you want.
Evishion 0 Posted November 28, 2004 I got a new question.. MY current ram is a Twinmos 512DDR PC2700 333mhz im gonna buy Corsair 1gig (2x512) PC3200 400mhz IF, i use my old 512 + the 1 gig one (yes, i got 3 ramslots), then il get 1.5gb. but will the new ram only run at 333 mhz ? Iv'e heard that all the ram will un at the speed as the slowest ram got.. Can anyone confirm that ?
Silent N Deadly 0 Posted November 28, 2004 Yep, I confirm that.
Evishion 0 Posted November 28, 2004 so it will be a waste to add the current 512?
Mr_Tea 0 Posted November 28, 2004 You should try to sell the Twinmos 512DDR PC2700 333mhz and by another Corsair 512MB PC3200 400mhz chip. If your Mainboard support Dual Channel Mode, it will only work with two sticks of Ram. I´m 99,5% sure of that.
Billabong81 0 Posted November 29, 2004 Is there a way to find out how fast your RAM is (PC 2700, 3200, etc)? Mine came with my PC, but I have never bothered to find out what speed it is. Thanks in advance!
Artak 0 Posted November 29, 2004 Aida32 should be able to detect that. It's a small free program that finds out just about everything you have on your computer and even suggests driver download links ect.. http://www.sofotex.com/AIDA32-download_L9326.html
mr burns 132 Posted November 29, 2004 cpu-z is also able to do this, just w/o the driver download thingie: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Evishion 0 Posted November 29, 2004 i have now installed the ram got some couples of more fps.. barely noticeable.. well.. depend alot where i am and if its much action or not
Evishion 0 Posted November 30, 2004 I got a new question for u guys....... As u know my old ram was 333 mhz.. But when i clocked my CPU i had/have to run the mhz on the ram on aprox 333 to prevent crash.. so now i run 350 mhz.. then i think.. thats less than 20mhz from the old ram.. is it then smart of me to insert the old ram anyway? i mean.. i cant run higher than 350mhz anyway so.............. hope so.. -Thx. sidhellfire 0 Posted December 1, 2004 If depends on your choice - 1,5 @ 333 or 1,0 @
Evishion 0 Posted December 1, 2004 If depends on your choice - 1,5 @ 333 or 1,0 @ 400 well.. i cant run higher than 350 anyway though, cuz of my CPU clock.. i only get bluescreen and creash if i increase to 400... I mean.. i doubt i will be able to notice any diff from 350 and 333.. what u guys think? edit: now its on 338 for some reason.. wtf.... ok i think il use all 3 still waiting for answer from u guys
EiZei 0 Posted December 1, 2004 The worst thing that could happen is the computer would not boot and required a cmos reset (AFAIK). Not very complex.
