Su22 by Polish Addon Maker TomiD

Recommended Posts

I've checked, and no-one else seems to have mentioned this one on A&M C yet wink_o.gif

TomiD's Su22 (NATO codename Fitter) is available from ofp.gamezone here.

I visited a Polish regiment using these when we were on exercise in 1996 in Drawsko Pomorski - first UK/ex-Warsaw Pact exercise on their soil after the demise of the WP. We were shown a video of one carrying out a wheels-up landing after a gear malfunction. The pilot was fine; the aircraft was lifted by a crane, the u/c lowered and the a/c returned to service within days.

Having seen the pics on OFP-center.de here, I'll probably exercise my discretion and wait until the textures are brought to Footmunch's standards. Top marks to TomiD for filling a significant gap in the line-up, though - I wish I had his modelling skills!

...Forgot to add - with all the excitement on the other thread about Footmunch's new F14, the Su22 is the type the Libyans were flying when 2 were splashed by Tomcats somewhere west of Malta....scope for some desert marked aircraft, perhaps?

Yeah it does, but they're called swing wings, or variable geometry wings.

SU-15:

SU-5:

Sukhoi SU-13 was a jet prototype in the late 40's which never flew.

It most certainly does smile_o.gif It comes from a long line of Su fighters, The Su-7 (which didn't have VG wings) onward smile_o.gif It even included an interceptor version, the Su-9 Fishpot I believe the NATO reporting code was. It was not that succesfull though. These Su-22's Have served with allot of eastern block airforces. I saw them allot on various airbases doing everything from mudmoving to recon to ECM work.

I thought it was two Libyan Mig-23's that those two F-14 Tomcat's shot down?

At any rate, I think its fantastic that someone finally made a Su-22. The Su-22 is actually the same plane as the Su-17. The Su-22 is simply the designation used for the export variant of the aircraft. It also differs slightly in shape from the SU-17 in the way the top of the aircraft is shaped.

Its an excellent aircraft with a long service record as a multi-role fighter bomber.

I'm SOOO happy that TomiD took it upon himself to make this great aircraft. It definitely fills a much needed gap in the Russian air section of OFP especially when it comes to simulating 80's era Russian aircraft.

This aircraft is also still being used today by various Airforce's around the world including some Middle East Airforces.

The 2nd engagement between Navy F-14's and the Libyan Air Force was in 1988 and the F-14's downed two MiG-23's. The 1st engagment in 1981 between the US and Libya was F-14's vs. SU-22's

Standard SAM fodder. Geez, I wish OFP allowed for some decent DDG's and CG's.

'Course, I can always fire up the ADAT's, and Vulcans.

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up. After testing out this addon I must say that its outstanding. The planes fly very nicely, the speed is about right, the bombs work well, and the missiles have nice "woosh" sounds.

I also really like the automatic swing wings which change as you increase or decrease your speed.

Overall I'm quite pleased with this addon.

By the way, does ANYONE have TommyD's email address???

I agree this is an excellent addon. The textures can be improved upon but I am very glad to see a Polish version biggrin_o.gif

Looks like a cross between a mig-21 and an SU-27 if you ask me.

What part of it looks like a Flanker to you? rock.gif
