USSoldier11B 0 Posted July 19, 2004 Originally I'm an 11B1P (paratrooper). For the past 2 1/2 years I've been serving as a 96B which is an intel analyst, in the Military Intellingence Detachment of 5/19th Special Forces. While it's fun and challenging work, I'm esentially a field soldier at heart and being holed up in an FOB all the time starts to get on my nerves. In a few weeks I will leave for reclassification training as a 98H which is a signals intercept operator. In the wrong kind of unit this could be a boring and tedious job, however in my unit 98G and 98H qualified soldiers are put on teams called SOT-A's (Special Operations Team Alpha) not to be confused with ODA's which are the SF teams. SOT-A's essentially go out into the field in 4 man teams and conduct reconnaisance in support of the Bn S-2 shop, MID, and ODA's. In Afghanistan our SOT-A's saw alot of combat so I'm happy to be getting back into a tactical environment, also since it's a recon type element I will get an opportunity to attend Ranger school. Balschoiw 0 Posted July 19, 2004 Soldier since 2001, originally 232 Mountain rangers (Gebirgsjägerbatallion Berchtesgaden, Strub). Hochgebirgsjägerzug, KRK forces. This took me to my first abroad mission in Somalia. After that I was hired by UN civil worker for UN forces. First contact with Legion Etrangere in Djibouti. Updated knowledge at FschJgBtl 251, Calw where I got my basics for the Fernspäherschule in Pfullendorf. After I sucessfully finished the Fernspäherschule (Para-Recon) I returned to Berchtesgaden and did my regular service there. I got Gruppenführer at the Recon and Explore group (Gruppenführer Aufklärungs und Verbindungszug, AV - Zug) and then switched to international waters again. After some missions abroad, Congo, Ruanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti and some watchdog missions in the former USSR and non-combat mission in the ME, I have my own core squad now, wich I am appointed to as leader. And that´s where the story ends for you  I have the rank of a Hauptfeldwebel today. Or in US terms, first artillery gunnery sergeant, while this doesn´t fit right as the US system is missing all the Feldwebel classes we have in the BW. As I´m a pretty old fart right now (33 this year) I will be focussing on training the BW PK units at Hammelburg and the Hochgebirgsjägerzug at 232. I´m no man for an office job and I simply don´t have fun in such. Next highlight : CEFE in 2005 (second time) Edit: Barett badges so far, Note, these only representate the troop branches I´ve served/serve with. Gollum1 0 Posted July 19, 2004 I'll be conscripted for the Finnish Defence Forces next year. So I'll actually do my 180-360 day service summer-winter 2006, probably. But i have tried to join the army (the belgian "army" that is) as an electronics specialist for the air force ,but i somehow didn't pass the psycho-test. Â I really would like to be in the army ,like most of the guys on this forum i'm actually an army freak.I earn really good money for an conftable position but i'm jelaous of these guys here that man artillery pieces or run around as grunt trough mud and rain all day in the worste conditions.i guess it would be tough but worth to have done. You've got a job to pay for a kickass pc to be in the army anytime you want. And no boring guard duty! I Enjoy my ofp a lot better then my time in the (dutch) army. Most of the oldschool people from the forums now know about my career 1988-1996 French Foreign Legion through 2 four years long contracts with combat engineering, EOD as specialities (along with a few other things ...) ending up as a sergent 1996-1997 a really short transition period in a French Army regiemtn 1998-2002 French Police forces (2 first years in the PJ, two last years, CRS and police intervention units) ending up as a commandant 2002-now a few things here and there when somebody in one of my two former ministeries comes accross my file -edit- those are the great lines, i won't say much more to avoid being in breach of the TTA 130 directives and the judicial oath ;) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Well it's just that i never actually experienced it ,so i guess i'm longing for all the fun stuff of such a job. But the thing is ,i never shot a real rpg in my life ,neither a rifle for that matter. I really really want to do that atleast once in my life ,blowing up in the air something like a stupid garden house with a rpg would rock.Or sabboting some car wrecks for ex. ,oh baby! A légionnaire is the same except that he carries a gun, that instead of bowing infront of a god he venerates "the ancients", elders and heroes of the Legion (with the exemple of the Camerone heroes) and is allowed to drink and to have sex.
