IceFire 0 Posted July 8, 2004 ears are made for hearing, they won't go down 5 percent for each time you play OFP...  How do you know? Plus, I need my hearing.  I will not live with subpar hearing because of some stupid video games. because your eyes also don't go down everytime you get soap in it  and for calling OFP a stupid game... well... you're in trouble...  anyhow, what makes you so afraid you'll lose your hearing? if you use as little volume as possible your ears will adapt, then you can go some lower again , get used to it, go a little lower again... i say get a biology book , ask a teacher, sounds become "dangerous" from around 90 Decibel , where most headphones don't reach 80 , and you play OFP with 30 / 40 (most of the time  ) EDIT: i allways mispell words between "kwootes"  What you are saying is that it would be very difficult to damage one's hears with headphones. All the other information and warnings out there suggest otherwise. They say that if your headphones are too loud or not low enough it can still damage your inner ear hairs. And they DON'T heal. In game terms, if you are unexpectadly close to a hand grenade going off or loud automatic fire, that can hurt your hearing.

People don't go deft even at concerts. I've been to Metallica gig recently and I felt my gutts going back and forth (was that loud). Still have sharp hearing. redliner47 0 Posted July 8, 2004 yeah, i must have gone to 50 concerts on the floor right next to the speakers. Still can hear a pin fall
Gordy 0 Posted July 8, 2004 BTW The game cannot be stupid as it cannot be smart. The user can, on the other hand. Games can be educational or entertaining or both. Mind that. Things can be as smart as the user.
IceFire 0 Posted July 8, 2004 ears are made for hearing, they won't go down 5 percent for each time you play OFP... Â How do you know? Plus, I need my hearing. Â I will not live with subpar hearing because of some stupid video games. How old are you? U can take false step into the shower and get killed. U can slip on the stairs and get killed. U can cut yourself wit paper. Your ceiling can drop on U. Your monitor can blow in your face. By any remote chance u can get infected by HIV, not having sex or being in hospital. chill out and use whatever u want with some limits without getting hurt. U will die someday. It's inevitable. So stop worring about some damn headphones. Haha, I don't care about getting killed or getting rabies or slipping in the shower. I just will not do anything that dulls any of my senses. Oh and they have done tests on people who go to alot of loud concerts. And most of them have a great deal of hearing loss.

IceFire 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I never did the research. Scientists did and reported on it. You can find it if you want to make an effort.

Gordy 0 Posted July 8, 2004 Ok, I'll be polite although i cannot resist. If what we said already is not enough for u, then I am sorry. Sell your headphones. OFP is great game if u can enjoy it. As U see mr MOD, there is no solution to this.
GoOB 0 Posted July 9, 2004 Everything in life is best used with care and in moderation Headphones damage your hearing if you have the volume up too loud, speakers damage your hearing if you have the volume up too loud. Looking at a monitor in a badly lit room fries your eyes if you do it too long. Continue using your headphones, but take fifteen minute breaks inbetween every hour of gaming/surfing (to rest eyes and ears, and to do some stretching) and make sure the volume isn't too loud. Trust me, you won't go deaf, the human body is just a wee bit tougher than that
smogmorph 0 Posted July 9, 2004 The only thing I've experienced from using headphones is a slight ringing in my ears for about 1-2 hours depending on how high I kept my volume and how long they stayed on. Just keep your volume level under the point where it starts to hurt/feel uncomfortable and you won't get deaf.

SpongeBob 0 Posted July 9, 2004 When I'm on public transit here, I see these young kids with these fat headphones, playing their music so loud, i can hear them coming half way down the platform. I wonder how long before they regret their actions.
ozanzac 0 Posted July 9, 2004 IceFire......are you one of those people who rushes down to the doctor as soon as you hear of a disease/ailment for the first time? There is literally so much in this world that can fudge up your hearing, it's not funny.....My suggestion. Use headphones in moderation, don't live under a flight path, don't stand next to the speakers at a live music gig and be careful of drunks with firecrackers...... If your really paranoid, don't clean your ears again.... for a pair of natural earplugs let the wax build up baby! Â Â
InqWiper 0 Posted July 9, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Looking at a monitor in a badly lit room fries your eyes if you do it too long. Thats funny. My monitor is the only lightsource in my room except some small liights on the computer. This is how I spend 8 hours per day with curtains down and everything. So far it doesnt seem too dangerous  Listen to what people are telling you, headphones are not dangerous for your hearing, its likely the headphones dont even have the physical ability to play noice so loud that it endangers your hearing. Many people on this forum have been either telling you its not dangerous or have just been laughing at you and spammed this thread. The only thing that says it is dangerous is the fact that some people were talking about it in AA. Were you one of those guys who kept falling for the "gg money" joke or "quit fog"? seriously, try to think for a while. If the headphones do not play a crazy amount of volume, how can they damage your hearing? If your ears are not hurting they are probably not taking damage. I think the risk is higher that some crazy person walks up to you and screams you in the ear and mess up you hearing that way rather than the headphones doing any damage. Use headphones, they are safe at normal volume level. Dont be so quick to trust people you dont know, especially while playing games with them. People often dont know what they are talking about or they exadurate or they are just trying to fool you. Try to use your common sense rather than listen to what people say and taking it really seriously. Did you know white socks make your feet smaller? Sooner or later you wont be able to stand
