SimonS 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Well I only have the original OFP, so i can't play online Ill get the GOTY edition with ofp, Resistance and red hammer. I was just thinking of what MP would be like, do people actually stick together and work as a team or do they just run about on their own like other games. I can't really imagine a multiplayer tank crew. Is it just as tactical and fun as SP or not? Or maybe even more fun! Can you give me some of your opinions on MP to get me hyped up
raedor 8 Posted July 7, 2004 it's much more fun in mp when you find a good server. it depends on what you wanna play... ctf, coop, dm, ... but most servers around are a bit too much kiddie style if you ask me. very good is this one: http://www.ciahome.net/ have fun! Mister Frag 0 Posted July 7, 2004 As with any other MP game, the experience depends largely on who you play with. If you find yourself surrounded by a bunch of immature fools or cheaters, it will quickly ruin the game. On the other hand, if you play with people that enjoy objective-based cooperative gaming (even Team Deathmatches have a clear objective), there is nothing like it. For this reason, I play on a private server with people I know personally, and who have the same goals as I do. Boarding vehicles such as tanks with multiple human players is fun and the best way to fight effectively. You definitely want a human gunner and driver, while you can easily skip the commander. The same is true for helicopter gunships -- a human pilot and gunner makes for a very effective fighting tool. If you use voice cummunications to coordinate your actions, it's even better. raedor 8 Posted July 7, 2004 yes, teamspeak is important, though.
russin 0 Posted July 7, 2004 this is the best online MP war sim out there but as he said above the cheaters can ruin it but we know who they are and if they attemt to ifiltrate my server i quickly show there ass's the door
InqWiper 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Some servers are very unserious with DM maps and people running around in small maps bursting with the crosshair and running around like idiots with no TP whatsoever. On the other hand there are servers like Zeus and FinP where you can play very serious coop maps that use even more tactics than SP. You can for example sit in the briefing and see the people who plan the mission put out markers where the tanks are supposed to take firing position and take out infantry and IFVs guarding a bridge. IFVs transporting infantry to a possition and disembark them and give the infantry cover while they advance. Engineers running ahead and clearing minefields while the tanks are providing cover so the tanks and IFVs can pass by. Infantry on the ground spotting enemy AT stations ahead and directing the tanks/IFVs fire past the viewdistance and so on. I think you get the point. Find a bad server and its mostly crap DM, find a good server and you can find some really fun very serious coops
benu 1 Posted July 8, 2004 IMHO it is best to find a server where the regulars speak your language and have a voicecom like teamspeak or ventrilo running, because i think for good coop voicecom is necessary. I also think that you will know really fast of the style of play on any given server is to your liking or not. Some people WANT to play in a "running around and shoot at everything" style. Nothing wrong with that if all enjoy. Others will kick players that open fire without being ordered by their commander. You have to find a server that handles things the way you like them. I think this will not be a problem, as most servers tend to be more on the serious/coordinated/teamplay side of things in my experience.

Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Be ready to download dozens of addons to play a map... Only if you're the kind of person who can't or doesn't bother reading what the server info says. Servers tell you when they need addons. If someone joins one which needs addons, without bothering to get them, thats THEIR problem for being an idiot. Can you give me some of your opinions on MP to get me hyped up I recommend joining a squad/clan if you want serious teamwork, on public server you mostly see these maps on desert island with buildings on it, sometimes fun for once in a week but not very fun. There are Battlefield maps but there I mostly see rambo's going in choppers and such things... In my squad (SWAF) we play maps against AI, we work together with groundtroops, tanks and choppers to complete the mission.

Scŕth-Siorrai 0 Posted July 10, 2004 MP is nice but players aren't very cooperative, like no ones wants to be the gunner in your tank or poeple leave on helicopters on their own leaving the hole team at the base I did play on servers where they actually played good and it was great you just need to find proper servers

benu 1 Posted July 10, 2004 Nobody wants to be the GUNNER? Most of the time nobody wants to be the driver I guess it depends on where and with whom you play. Sometimes missiontype too, in cti i often want to have ai as driver and gunner and only command the tank. Although we drive with several human players too sometimes. It just depends... Toasty McGrath 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I try to avoid playing multiplayer, because I get really twitchy in MP games... If it moves, it's an enemy... I'm not even trying to be a TKer, I just empty half a magazine on the green blur and then go check it afterwards. I've left games voluntarily before I could wipe out my whole squad. InqWiper 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Like people keep saying, if you find the right servers (zeus and FinP for example) it will be very serious and well coordinated. Now stop saying there is no coop in MP, thats BS, stop it !
P2War 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Yeah try mp out - see if you like it There's no experience quite like a capture the island game with the right people

norsu 180 Posted July 11, 2004 Well there was this record, a bit over 100 players, but it lagged like hell. 40 seems to be the max for playable game. But for example you can have big battles in coop games, depending of course how detailed surroundings you have for fight. Nothing like defeneding against 100 AI soldiers and tanks with a bunch of human players .
