My favourite vehicle  biggrin_o.gif . It´s not a HMMWV and cos i can´t get the IFAV in the Pack, I decide to try to finish this little Baby

Click me!

aaah wow_o.gif Good to see the footprints. It adds a lot to a vehicle.

But overall the vehicle looks a bit too clean or 'plastic'. It's difficult because there are large areas without any detail (on the real vehicle). It's because of those areas that the textures need a bit more dust, scratches and 'wheathering' (spelling?). With this I mean some vertical dark stripes (hardly visible) to simulate that the vehicle has been wet (rain). Some horizontal random scratches and dirt from bushes and stuff like that.

All edges should be a ligth color (highlight) like you already did. A metal plate should be a bit dark towards the edges and lighter towards the middle.

Together with the weathering this should produce a confincing result on a large flat metal plate.

Keep it up! This pack will absolutely hit us like a rock on warpspeed! tounge_o.gif

Let´s use this thread (which remains open to anyone) to make constructive comments and not for corrosive and unfounded ones.

But over all, before posting anything please read previous posts; maybe you could be very very mistaken in your affirmations.

Fischkopp is making a great effort to make his humvees, so let him work in peace...

LOL biggrin_o.gif look at that couch on the back of the left HMMWV! It's nice to fight a war, but it's better to fight while sitting on a couch!! tounge_o.gif

he one on the right must be an uparmored extended capacity HMMWV (like the M1114). You can see the grill on the left side (in this view) for the airconditing system. Also note the M1114's hatch construction where the hatch is locked in the upright position to cover the gunners back.

Left humvee (a modified M-998 with "X" pattern armored doors) has been used by Special Ops several times even with twin machineguns.

These civilian car back seats are just one of few modifications made by troops deployed in Iraq/Afgan theatres to make more safe and confortable their vehicles (improvised armor plates replacing standard non-armored doors are very common there aswell)

Right humvee is a M-1144 up-armored and yes the hatch is upright, but this is common in up-armored versions, even more, there are versions with a full-armored turret replacing these hatch to provide more security to the gunner.

I m doing only USMC units, that means no SF Hmmwv variant. Maybe somebody other will do this. The only SF vehicle i will created is the IFAV for Marine Force Recon

I bet you mean M1114 and not M1144.

I know that it's commen for the uparmored HMMWV's to have the hatch upright. It was designed to do especially that.

The HMMWV with turret is the M1116. This one is only used by the airforce and is the only official HMMWV with all-around armored turret.

All sort of modifications have been made for HMMWV's in iraq. One of the strangest and funniest isthe one under development for the USMC; armor from a spraycan. It's already used on ships and was developed after the USS Cole bombing. When sprayed on any metal plate it helps protect it against explosions; the plate will deform but will not be penetrated by the eplosion. Very effective. They now want to find out if it can help to protect HMMWV's against IED's

edit

the HMMWV on the left is not an M998. The M998 is unarmored and has a soft-top and soft doors. The M998 also doesn't have ringmount for weapons. It's much more likely that it's a modified M1025. Or it's an M1097A2 Special Forces Carrier with basic armored doors.

This is going a little bit off-topic but anyway...

Humvee essence is its modular construction so to a M-998 (basic variant) you can add a hard top, armored doors, metal back with trunk... and all posible combinations. My cousin is on active duty in the spanish Marine Infantry (spanish Marines) and once he told me, he converted a non armored M-998 (with canvas top and doors) into a fully M-1025 armament carrier. (even with a mounted M-2) So the humvee in the picture could was once perfectly a M-998.

Yes. I meant M-1114 (just a keyboard mistake) and some in service M-1114 are fitted with the armored turret (and it´s not supossed to be the official O´Gara-Hess turret), just pay attention to the TV news next time you see an ambush in iraq, I´ve seen it several times (and i know external differences btween a M-1114 and a M-1116)

Well, anyway this is not a "Who knows more about humvees?" contest.

You're right about the turret. My post was a bit unclear on that point. I stated that the M1116 is the only one with an 'official' turret. The strangest modifications are made for iraq and it's very unlikely to see any unarmoured HMMWV these days. Every HMMWV has been uparmored in some way to protect the crew against mines/IED's and ambushes.

But like you said; let it end here because it's clear we both know everything about HMMWV's already.

Conclusion; It's almost impossible to make a version of a HMMWV that's incorrect because there are so many version (both official and unofficial). Fischkopp said that he'll only do USMC HMMWV's. Good choise since I love the USMC

so resassured you will never seen their stuff in action.

besides, fischkopps are the best tounge_o.gif

Mmmm..I´m not pretty sure at all but I believe it will never be released since it´s a stolen model from Marfy (the same taken with permission by BAS for their unfinished Desert/woodland pack)... But as I said before I´M NOT SURE AT ALL.

P.D:

Pappy: i´m agreed with you. Fischkopp humvees are the best humvees ever made for OFP till now.

i mean no disrespect but your new to this whole scene. . .

most of us that have been around since day one of OFP have seen many many many many promising mods release millions of screenshots and videos. . . only to announce they are giving up. . .or simply not posting anything at all

mods, the come and they go. . .and go. . .and go. . and go. .until your left with only the real deal mods that stick it out til the very end (BAS not counted cuz they earned thier break. . and they actualy released stuff).

I have been up to date about addons since first moth of OFP release (since first stock reskins) and I have seen lots of pics, videos and other stuff of very promising addons that suddenly vanished out. A shame

But again, we´re going off-topic biggrin_o.gif

Fishkopp HMMWV's are the best right now of the ones which will actually be released. I'm not sure if Marfy's (BAS') would have been better, since they will never be released and we haven't seen updated pictures on them for months.

But with those HMMWV's in mind; will you add those 'ID Friend or Foe' (IFF) plates on the doors of your HMMWV's. Together with a spare wheel on the back and some packs and sacks (and hopefully a randomizer script to show or not show them) that would make em even better. But perhaps this is something for a future update. You could ask the Combat! mod for their IFF's and packs. Those can be used and will help create a uniform look between the two addons (combat's and fischkopp's)

Absolutely. See my sig: Co-operation, not competition.

Also agreed. Constructive critisism is always good, but critisism for criticism's sake is useless, and leads only to bad feelings, which is not what we need.

Don't stamp too hard on anyone though, as Bobcatt's comment came from a misunderstanding of Fischkopp's post. When dealing with a multinational community, there are always going to be misunderstandings and comprehension errors. Even between english-speaking people, there are often misunderstandings... wink_o.gif

Careful, pappy boyington tounge_o.gif . You are relying on post counts as a meter of how long people have been in the community. My post count is something stupid like '12' crazy_o.gif, but that doesn't mean that I don't know anything about the OFP community. I have been around, in the background, since the beginning as well.

@Fischkopp:

Looking very nice, those Hummers. We (Oh, HateR_Kint, at least, since the rest of us are a little busy in RL right now tounge_o.gif ) are just working on getting the MCAR stuff working correctly, and are making good progress. We have run into a couple of..."small"...bugs, but nothing we can't fix given time.

@About the IFF:

I don´t know what that is!

IFF panels (Identify Friend or Foe) are basically plates with special degree oriented sub panels, covered with reactive paint ,which can be easily identified and spotted from the air avoiding the bombing of allied units by mistake. You can see these panels on Humvees, Bradleys, M-1s, 5-T trucks...

In the humvee of the picture, the IFFs are in the driver and co-pilot doors and over the hood.

And most likely one is attached on the back.

It should be attached to all sides of the vehicle. The M1's have them on the sides and back, but they have other panels on the front of their turret.
