Upcoming lost brother addons

Awesome! Do you think you could PM me (or post on here) that texturing tutorial? I'm not sure if Godzilla or Calm Terror have seen it. We have textures...the problem is just mapping them properly. The roof of the Achzarit might be tricky though... I would ask if we could use yours, but Godzilla has already done alot of work on his model so I don't want to waste his hard work. Plus his model is excellent...although yours is fantastic also. smile_o.gif I look forward to playing your Achzarit! Definitely one of the coolest APC's in the world. In ArmA they will definitely come into their own as powerful assault vehicles.

It's all explained right here;

http://fab.ofp.free.fr/Tutorials/Textures.htm

It's a real timesaver ones you've done the blueprint. It's real easy and in photoshop you just have to draw your texture over the blueprint and you have trouble with mapping at all. It sometimes takes a bit of work to make stuff in the textures line up properly, but this is all done in photoshop and not in O2. Just make sure the blueprint is correct.

here's an example of the rear that I still need to do;

The first shot it in buldozer where I already mapped the texture with blueprint.

rear2.jpg

This second shot is the actual texture in psd (obviously this texture will contain much more stuff later on, but right now it only contains the small rear part of the vehicle). Now it's just a matter of drawing the texture over those lines, hide the blueprint layer and save it as tga ready to be converted to paa/pac in texview

Rear1.jpg

I must of course note that I draw my own textures in photoshop from the bottom up. If you work with mapping edited photomaterial than that makes it more difficult.

Miles: The Magach (Pattons) were taking out of service, all of them in about a year ago, so no more Magach tanks in ZAHAL.

One thing that I like about your model Godzilla is that it has all the pieces to the moving roof/rear door system.  Maybe you two could combine your models?   Like maybe Capt. Frostbite could take some of the more detailed sections from your model and combine it with his?  Just a thought.

As for the Magach's...  Its ok if they just retired them as our mod covers many different eras.  We also have a Centurion with ERA for example that was retired in 2002...I forgot to mention that.  smile_o.gif

At any rate, its possible also that the Magach's might have been put into mothball storage for usage in an emergency if a big war broke out.  Despite their age, they are still potent tanks even with only the 105mm cannons.

I also have a fully working rear-hatch wink_o.gif It's one of the coolest features of the Achzarit and quite unique so I just had to include it. I don't have an interiour yet, but it's quite simple and can be done in a day or two (model that is, textures obviously take much longer to do)

I got an idea for some campaigns.

I'm suggesting on making them in OFP's style, but instead of 3 different roles in one campaign, make 3 different campaigns, for example:

Lets say that the Campaign game got 30 or 45 missions with 3 roles, foot soldier (Armstrong), tanker (Hammer) and SF Operator (forgot this dudes name tounge2.gif ), why don't make 3 seperate campaigns with 10 or 15 missions per role with training missions at the start (i think if you will add some training missions, even one per role it will give the campaign some feeling that you actualy taking part of something).

Here is my concept for IDF's training:

Golani campaign:

First mission basic weapon and obstacle course (like the first US mission) but it will get quick urban combat training as the final course in the second mission where you will be droped at an urban enviorment with hostile targets need to be taking out (like the MOUT training mission in Americas Army, anyone played?).

Tanker campaign:

First mission you will start at the Negev desert in the tankers training base of Bislash as your first day of working in a tank as a tanker.

in the first mission you will get meet your fellow crew members and you will be introduced to the tank and its capablitys (i know this is knowen to everyone, but as i sayd, its for the so called "feeling" im planing wink_o.gif ).

Ok after you will be introduced and get the whole morning role call things the army usually does, you and your squad will be bording a truck to get into the training grounds and board the tanks, the training ground will have some obstacles in it and will be looking like a basic tank obstacle course, here you will learn how to drive, navigate and stuff.

Operator:

Or a Sayeret (Recon) campaign, as a super duper soldier you will have to infiltrate a small camp without beeing detected, passing through some places in the woods, basicly more or less the SF training mission in Americas Army where you land from a choper and need to sneak into places, and yes, the very same mission everyone hates tounge2.gif .

These are the ideas, more or less, as for other sides, maybe adding some different type of roles, like a helicopter training course, AT specialist or engineer, things like that, making varieous campaigns, making the game more intresting.

Tell me what you guys think smile_o.gif .

Some questions for you, guys: will you make some 60-70's era soldiers armed with different FALs and MAGs? And after playing with your A-4 Skyhawks it looked like free-fall bombs have some guidance system:)

Yes there is plans for past wars hardware and stuff, but first we work on current time weapons so Yom Kippur and Six Day War can wait xmas_o.gif .

As Godzilla said, the historic stuff will wait for now until our Jordanian pack is finished (after addon pack #3 is released).  However..the good news is that we have a completely re-done A-4 Skyhawk that is MUCH nicer.  I'm not sure about our freefall bombs...they may have guidance...but most likely they are whatever the BIS default freefall bombs are like.

So the guidance may be a BIS engine limitation (or feature).

The A-4 is one of my personal favorite aircraft.  Addon Pack #3 will have ALOT of historical units but mostly more recent historic units which may theoretically still be taken out of mothballs by both sides.  These include the A-4, various armor (including centurion tanks, T-55's, ZSU-57's, PT-76's, OT-62/BTR-50's, etc....)    We did this because we want to cover the 80's-Future eras.

We actually already have alot of historic weapons that we've put together.  We are just lacking historic uniforms for IDF soldiers from the 60's and 70's.  It will take some time to make those historic IDF units.   That is why we first want to release those units (like the Jordanian pack) which we have already almost completed.

For the historic pack, most of the vehicles (including the whole range of Sherman tanks) is already done.  Just a few modifications need to be made to our Egyptian T-34 and other tanks.  Also yes...the IDF historic units will have such weapons as the FN-FAL as well as older rifles, machine guns, pistols, and anti-armor weapons.

Godzilla:  you are right... I should make some training missions to teach new OFP players how to properly use Israeli equipment (although to even things out I'd have to make Egyptian training missions. lol)

We actually have one Egyptian General as an advisor but he's pretty cool.  He's actually very secular and doesn't hate Israel or anything.  He's big on anti-terrorism.  He gave us excellent info on standard Egyptian infantry weapons.

My main focus right now is to create very difficult Lebanon missions.  The IDF should take note and use them for training.  In my missions, the Hezbollah units will use every nasty trick in the book to kill IDF forces in my missions incuding boobie traps, mine fields, ATGM's, mortars, snipers, and flanking assaults.

The harder the enemy, the better training IDF soldiers will get from our missions.

Pfc-Baskis:  Thank you for those Hezbollah pictures.  I will forward them to Calm Terror.  Much appreciated.

Suffice to say that our Hezbollah commandos/scouts will be armed to the teeth and will replicate their mostly heavily equipped and most elite units in our small pack that will be in Addon Pack #3.

Captain Frostbite:  That is AWESOME that you got the rear hatch to work!!!!!!  After talking to Godzilla I think we will probably use your Achzarit if that is ok with you.  If you use our IDF Merkava crew from addonpack #2 it should work fine with our updated crew.  However I would like Godzilla to send you his model to see if some of the parts of his model are perhaps better (like his rooftop hatches and stuff are very nice).

Whatever the case I hope its cool with you if we use your Achzarit.   If you want, we'd be REALLY happy if you helped us with texturing.  IDF-Godzilla is an excellent model maker.  You two would make an awesome team.    Right now he has some beautiful Merkava Mk3 and Mk3 BAZ models that need some loving attention.   Just PM him for the models (he's finishing them up right now) if you want to take a crack at them.  Feel free to un-PBO any LoBo Merkavas to use our textures on them if you want.

Also if you work with us, I will PM you the passwords to our private FTP section so you can download all the stuff that will be in our addon pack #3 (and other stuff).

Awesome... I didn't know they used Uzis also...thats cool cuz my mod has some nice Uzis that would be nice to use on something besides our historic IDF units (aside from the micro-Uzis on our S'13 commandos).

By the way, here is a pic of our Egyptian Naval Commandos.  I don't think I've posted pics of them before:

I like the variety and general subject of this mod, but there's just something about these addons which doesn't look good. They look rough around the edges (meant literally and as a figure of speech)

Well we made them as best we can. Keep in mind that we have no expert texture artists and only recently got a model expert on our team. So everything you see is from other addon makers/mods and old stuff Vipersheart made (our old Mod leader) that we used or modified. So yes they are not perfect, but in my opinion they are not too bad and most definitely very usable (and a big improvement to our original stuff that was made a long time ago). We've always said that we are totally open to anyone who want to help us with our mod. So if you want to see our stuff made better, then help encourage any good addon makers you know to lend us a hand. Until then, sorry this is as good as we can do for now.

That's very good that you're going to release quite a lot of historical units, though I thought just about some infantry with older weapons. BTW, will you change Kfir model? The existing one is... mmm... confused_o.gif not very good. And as for islands, what ones will be in your pack#3?

Oh we definitely agree that our Kfir is...well badly lacking in certain details and quality, however we do have a nice Kfir model that was converted for us. The problem is that we lack a texture artist to texture it. Later we will try to texture it, but it is a low priority right now. When we concentrate on the historic pack, its priority will be raised and we will hopefully finish it Inshallah (God willing).

Right now I'm just trying to find us a good texture artist who can help take some of the pressure off of Calm Terror who has done the bulk of the work for the Lost Brothers Mod team.

We've had our disagreements, but I have to praise him for being truly dedicated and hardworking. He just needs some help with stuff now that he's working a good job and doesn't have as much time as before. If he wasn't banned here, he would freely acknowledge that he has his limits to his textureing abilities. But he does his best. So we really need a professional texture artist. I would like Capt. Frostbite to join us in making our mod first rate, but thats up to him. I know Thunderbird84 is also awesome and always is willing to help us, but I want him to concentrate on his own mod first and so I only bother him when we are really desperate. I thank him greatly for all of his assistance such as on our Arab voices.

We also have had help from our Israeli friends Hayal (who sadly was sidetracked by real life and is busy for now), Soviet, Diversant, and several others including a few in the IDF (and one high-rankng Egyptian officer) who have helped us tremendously with modelling, voices, and non-classified information. Godzilla is also our newest member and is really an amazing model maker. But he has other interests and we have no problem with him pursuing whatever he feels most passionate about. So, slowly but surely, we are trying to improve our modest mod that has depended so much on the generosity of other addon makers and mods like ORCS, FDF, CSLA, BAS, OFrP, ROC-3, VME, Footmunch, Remo, Bucketman, Ironsight, Ebud, Vit, Veit, and many others. We are truly greatful for their help and we could not have done what we've done so far without them.

I hope that the mod community continually supports each other, which is why I encourage all of the people in our mod to help out other mods. That is what makes the OFP community a true community.

(OFP group hug)

miles i think putting more bushes would add a lot to the realism

topography of the mod

also some good hiding places

True, but most of the Sinai is fairly desolate and has more boulders then bushes. Furthermore putting in more bushes would decrease the framerates. We are already pushing it on Sinai Version 1.4 so I doubt Calm Terror would throw in more bushes. Sorry.

If the game engine is substantially smoother in ArmA we may increase our object count on the Sinai map.

Maybe you do two map versions of the same

just with one of them haven exta objects for high end comp

couse bushes play a key role in the m.east echo sys

and we can all  use them in Lebanon as well

good luck anyway
