Yeah, and when it comes to realism, remember the difficulty modes, we can have a lot more than just veteran and cadet, even 5 levels and so on... so even "REALISM ghostface.gif " could be in there. tounge_o.gif

yeah

I think they should add those abandoned (ok, maybe courteous a bit...) "ultra realistic" mode, just to show us what they can, and to just let see others the most realistic war simulator ever:)

Seriously, <shot in a leg = death is a bug>, not realism, but as i said the full realism should be included (as an option) for extraordinary super veterans from the good old ofp:)

Why the **** would they try and make it like BF2?!?! You've got the wrong idea big-time!

Is there freedom in the BF series for a start? No. I suggest reading the conversation again maybe?

You also have to look outside of OFP and see what's good in other games. HL & Unreal both have there good points (personally I'm not a fan of either), doesn't mean to say that OFP2 is going to be CS 2.5 or Unreal VII. Would you be happy if it was VBS1? Look what they've got already and what you've created yourselves, surely you don't think that they are going to go backwards? mad_o.gif

Well, I'm sure BIS will get the realism/gaming mix right again. They did so two times already - and if they f*** up this one, then I'm there'll probably still be a VBS2 for the hardcore sim fans.

Because they want to make money!

How many players have bought OFP? Nearly one million. And how many have bought RH or even Resi? Not so many, because they didn't get along with OFP 1.0. Yes, there were these hardware specs, but I think the reason why most people rejected from buying the addons was that they can't run around and fire at everything which is not on a tree until 3.

I mean, yes, your points aren't bad, but imagine what a community would come with a game closer to BF IN GAMYPLAY then to OFP. Imagine all the BF kiddies who're shooting each other IN THERE TEAMS, just to get the points for the flag...

I'm very distanced to these new "difficulties"... rock.gif

You have to admit, OFP 1.0 had a lot of problems. I can see why people would have abandoned it. The only reason I didn't was because I'd been aching for a game exactly like this for some time - at least since '96 when a friend of mine and I talked about making a game like this to kill time in boot camp. A game that would bring us a real infantry experience, not a Doom-like FPS where we're channeled into tunnels and dungeons. We wanted to use AT4s to kill BTRs with - we wanted to attack across fields with tracers zipping overhead.

We got that in OFP - eventually. But not everyone could see the potential the game had back then. Some people were looking for a Doom/BF1941/CS clone. They were dissappointed as well.

I think BIS realizes where it's strengths are - creating a very expandable and customizeable gaming engine with robust performance in simulation large outdoor environments. I don't think they'd abandon that.

I don't expect OFP2 to have the level of detail we come to expect from our addon makers (there still may be tanks that don't quite look like their real life counter parts, aircraft that don't quite perform exactly like the real ones do, etc. - I don't think BIS is a bunch of ubergrogs like us who painstakingly scrutinize everything for realism and don't care if one bolt on a road wheel is slightly out of place) but I'm positive that the capability to mod OFP2 to the hyper-realistic game will be there. Hell, even VBS has some realism issues, but I'm sure that someone out there will fix those as well.

My point is that BIS probably realizes that it has a good market in us non-BF1942ers. I think they've looked long and hard at what went right and wrong in OFP/VBS and have taken steps to overcome those issues. Hell, VBS already looks better than any other similar game out there (look at the ADF2 pack if you don't believe me) so graphically they're already ahead of the game. Adding the Source Engine's physics and graphics capabilities can only further enhance OFP2, if they decide to move over to it.

BIS are not going to make a BF type arcade blast 'em up action thing. They've not made one before & with the experience & success they've had... I doubt they're likely too.

If they were more concerned about making money than making a great game, hell we'd already have OFP2.. and it'd be shit. Look at what happened to BF:Vietnam, should've just waited, improved it and made it an expansion to BF2. However, I still wouldn't buy it.

I'm confident in BIS's abilities to deliver the goods and provide us with the game we all want (well you can never please everyone!)... and if not, the ability to allow you to turn it into the game that you want. smile_o.gif

Also, the market for arcadey, lowest-common-denominator shooters is cramped: BF42, BF Nam, CS, CS Source, Soldner, HL2, UT2004, Joint Ops, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum. Even competing with the more realistic tactical shooters such as Raven Shield is dicey, as they're established.

OFP is a niche game. They pinned an entire corner of the market with one game and one expansion (I don't count Red Hammer). To ditch pretty much assured success with a smaller market to try (and no doubt fail) at breaking into a larger, more competetive market would be very silly. The kind of players who appreciate BF's realistic nuances are the same kind of people whose opinion boils down to crap like "CS sux UT rox," and their level of tactical sense dictates that standing still for more than two seconds or (horror of horrors) using concealment or a vantage point equals being a cheating son of a bitch.

The reason I play OFP still is because nothing comes close. I play other games when I want a quick fix of carnage. I come back to OFP every time though, because it feels so much more harsh and unforgiving, therefore more satisfying. I don't like being told that I've just been hit in the chest with a burst from an MP40, but it's okay, it didn't hurt too bad, it only took 20 health off me. I don't like being able to take out a T72 with hand grenades. I don't like being able to recover from a gunshot wound that blew my fucking skull open by walking over a water canteen and a bag of bandages.

I like running through a hail of gunfire, knowing that it's a very stupid thing to do, and that any one of those bullets zipping past my face will kill me stone dead if I walk into one. Because when I finally get behind something solid, I've got that giddy feeling of relief because I've just survived horrible odds. When I run across a courtyard in Call of Duty and get chased across by MG42 fire, I don't really feel too fussed as I could have run across it while being shot up and still have survived.

Also, it's no fun playing with thirteen year olds who mistake skill for twitch-reflexes and bounding around the map. I'd much rather stick with my OFP squad, where I know the members are genuinely skilled and talented players, be it through practice and dedication or the fact that they're putting into practice what they did or do for a living.

BIS tapped into this. They made something that almost every single one of us in the community finds appealing. To give up a small, yet loyal fanbase for a large, yet unpredictable market would be like getting Mr. Magoo to perform an emergency heart bypass on your best friend.

So, I don't think they'll sell out, as it were. Especially not as there are probably a few people in the community who've handled explosives before biggrin_o.gif

I think BIS has stated their attitude pretty clearly - they make the game how they want it and whoever buys it, buys it.

Although they no doubt heed the suggestions of fans, probably will even take many ideas straight from the mods, it will be their game.

Hopefully it will become ours too. wink_o.gif

OFP is OFP. The only competition is VBS1 and that dosnt even count as competition beucase it made by the same people.

People play OFP becuase something captured us. Me, I like being a infantry grunt, with my M16, knowing that I can survive attacking a town of infantry. But then tanks come and I know I will die. But when you live and town is secure, I get a feeling of acchivement.

Being a VBS1 owner, I view it as OFP on graphic steriods - and not a heavy dose.

It's much the same. You can judge for yourself from the VBS1 pics that get posted here on the OFP Combat Photography thread. Don't get fooled by the better face and hand textures. That's just a little smoke and mirrors.

Now, that I've said that - yes, it would be nice to have someone at BIS ping us all with a little smidget of information or something or other.

I think that the loyalty and devotion shown by the regs of this community warrants a small show of appreciation by the powers that be. No, I'm not referring to the moderators. biggrin_o.gif

I think VBS1 can handle more polys and bigger textures than ofp. But as I already have ofp I don't need vbs1, because I know it is the same thing. But I don't really care about graphics they only need to be average it is the gameplay that makes ofp1 so good.

Ofp2 will be running on a second generation engine I guess. =) Hopefully we can see some ss this year

To me it just feels a little to stale around here lately. I'm a big fan of behind the scene's stuff. I'm not asking for OFP2 screen shots, but some pictures maybe on the fun page. Something to break this streak of no activity.

Quite good idea to add some of the first pics on the secret pages. The CM`s (well, only the CM`s with the pass) will see it first.
