shinRaiden 0 Posted November 2, 2004 I'm suprised that that this thread has lasted to some 262+ pages, since politics is inherently flame-baiting. Or maybe it's frostbite, as icey wit could induce freezerburn among those that insist on standing n3k1d out in the cold harsh real world. UK Gaurdian interviews Tom Wolfe Quote[/b] ]"Indeed, I was at a similar dinner, listening to the same conversation, and said: 'If all else fails, you can vote for Bush.' People looked at me as if I had just said: 'Oh, I forgot to tell you, I am a child molester.' I would vote for Bush if for no other reason than to be at the airport waving off all the people who say they are going to London if he wins again. Someone has got to stay behind." Where does it come from, this endorsement of the most conservative administration within living memory? Of this president who champions the right and the rich, who has taken America into the mire of war, and seeks re-election tomorrow? Wolfe's eyes resume the expression of detached Southern elegance. "I think support for Bush is about not wanting to be led by East-coast pretensions. It is about not wanting to be led by people who are forever trying to force their twisted sense of morality onto us, which is a non-morality. That is constantly done, and there is real resentment. Support for Bush is about resentment in the so-called 'red states' - a confusing term to Guardian readers, I agree - which here means, literally, middle America. I come from one of those states myself, Virginia. It's the same resentment, indeed, as that against your own newspaper when it sent emails targeting individuals in an American county." Wolfe laughs as he chastises. "No one cares to have outsiders or foreigners butting into their affairs. I'm sure that even many of those Iraqis who were cheering the fall of Saddam now object to our being there. As I said, I do not think the excursion is going well." And John Kerry? "He is a man no one should worry about, because he has no beliefs at all. He is not going to introduce some manic radical plan, because he is poll-driven, and it is therefore impossible to know where or for what he stands." Quote[/b] ]So what is it about his liberal neighbours and fellow diners in his adoptive New York that Wolfe cannot abide? "I cannot stand the lock-step among everyone in my particular world. They all do the same thing, without variation. It gets so boring. There is something in me that particularly wants it registered that I am not one of them." Parting cordially, it seems strange that such an effervescent maverick, such a jester at the court of all power - all vanity, indeed - should so wholeheartedly endorse the power machine behind George Bush. And so an obvious thought occurs: perhaps Wolfe is jester at the court of New York too. Would he really be happier away from New York, out on the plains, in the "red states" where everyone at dinner parties votes for Bush? Wolfe's eyes revert to that mischievous glint, and he allows himself a smile. "I do think," he admits, apparently speaking for himself, his country and his president, "that if you are not having a fight with somebody, then you are not sure whether you are alive when you wake up in the morning." Meanwhile, the democrats continue to fabricate statements and attributions: AP wire Quote[/b] ]Lifelong Republican Richard Bonnet pays attention to politics, so when he found a message on his answering machine from Norman Schwarzkopf saying he was voting for John Kerry this year, he was momentarily stunned. "I thought I saw Bush down in Florida, with Schwarzkopf standing on the stage next to him," Bonnet, 69, of Howell Township, said Monday. "So I called up the Monmouth County Republican headquarters and they said he was a Bush supporter." On Sunday, the retired general gave Bush a strong endorsement in Tampa, Fla. Schwarzkopf released a statement Monday saying that the Democratic National Committee was making fraudulent phone calls and demanded that they stop. "I am supporting President Bush for re-election because he is the candidate who has demonstrated the conviction needed to defeat terrorism," Schwarzkopf said. The taped phone call ends with a voice saying the ad was paid for by the DNC. Calls to the DNC office in Washington were not immediately returned. The taped message begins with a man identifying himself as Schwarzkopf. "In 2000, I voted for George W. Bush, but this year I'm voting for John Kerry." The man goes on to say that Bush took his eye off the ball when it came to finding the people responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, which killed nearly 700 New Jersey residents. "John Kerry has a real plan to make our military stronger and to go after terrorists wherever they hide," the man says on the tape. "We need a vote for change, a vote for John Kerry." Drudge has the following statement: Quote[/b] ] TAMPA, FL – Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf today issued the following statement: "The Democratic National Committee is making fraudulent phone calls claiming that I have endorsed Senator Kerry. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I demand that they stop immediately. "Senator Kerry opposed the Reagan defense build-up that won the Cold War. Senator Kerry opposed the removal of Saddam Hussein from Kuwait. Senator Kerry proposed billions in intelligence cuts after the first attack on the World Trade Center. Senator Kerry voted against funds to equip our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan with supplies like body armor and ammunition. "I am supporting President Bush for reelection, because he is the candidate who has demonstrated the conviction needed to defeat terrorism. In contrast to the President's steadfast determination to defeat our enemies, Senator Kerry has a record of weakness that gives me no confidence in his ability to fight and win the War on Terror. His attempt to make up for these deficiencies by falsifying my endorsement only confirms my impression that he is not the man we need to lead our nation." shinRaiden 0 Posted November 2, 2004 Oh, since I'm notoriously sloppy at posting smilies to indicate when I'm makeing a light-hearted statement, and folks like to explode over ever jot and tittle I quote because they get offended over every little jab on their sanctimonius whited sepulchures of intellectualism, here's some smilies: Don't freak out, there will be a tomorrow and the day after as well. John Kerry (news - web sites), and the White House rivals were deadlocked in the key state of Florida on the eve of the presidential election, according to Reuters/Zogby polls released on Monday. In the final Reuters/Zogby polls before Tuesday's voting, Bush led Kerry 48-47 percent in the three-day national tracking poll, well within the margin of error. Bush and Kerry were deadlocked at 48 percent on Sunday This one is gonna be a nail biter no need to watch any suspense movies or sport games just watch this , but if Bush wins throw away all those horror movies because your not gonna need'em for another 4 years

Yeah, he was probably collaborating with the North-Vietnamese during his service! Can't wait for the next claim. shinRaiden 0 Posted November 2, 2004 No, 2nd Amd. doesn't come until much, much later. What we can expect is that there will be immediate litigation surrounding recounts and probably electronic voting machines. That's where it gets tricky, because all the constitutional provisions have to deal with the assumption that there is usable votes. The usability is what will be contested. As the charges will significantly include voter fraud, that would cast doubt on a voter's entire ballot, not just their presidential choices. In which case, it could very well be that the congress could determine the election, with the health of Rhenquist in doubt. But as the entire house of representatives is up for re-election, they wouldn't be elected until the elections are certified, and they won't be certified until the litigation issues are cleared up. So the courts have until mid-January to finish arguing the ballot validity, after which time it would be up to the incumbent govenors and legislators not up for re-election to appoint congress people to then pick a president. As I said previously, you are not voting just for George Bush, there are many dozens of other positions just as equally vital: President Vice-President Senator Representative Govenor Lt. Govenor Attorney General (Other Dept. Sec.'s) Secretary of State State Senator State Legislator County Executive County Councilperson Mayor Municipal councilmember Rural Fire Districts School Boards Bonds Levies Initiatives Propositions and more in your area. All these are critical to make the system work.
Akira 0 Posted November 2, 2004 *More bullshit. Go figure.* So you avoid answering my questions and proving your accusations, and post mroe crap. Is this the best the supposed head of the GOP office can do? I mean seriously. As the alleged head of the GOP office in Washington state somewhere, I would expect a little more.... No I take that back. I wouldn't expect more. Its basically what the GOP and TBA has done all election season. Smoke and mirrors.
shinRaiden 0 Posted November 2, 2004 First off you put my name on a quote I did not make, instead of just commenting to that effect. Secondly, there is nothing that says I can't say what you are doing is smoke and mirrors and general FUD as well. I can either spend time arguing about the mush you are trying to put in people's heads, or I can use that same time instead to try and put some of my own in instead. But I'm off to the phone banks and to hang out with the best Anarchist-kicking Sheriff on the West Coast. I won't be back until probably wednesday, tomorrow's a busy day. I certainly wasn't going to quote that entire post. Quote[/b] ]Secondly, there is nothing that says I can't say what you are doing is smoke and mirrors and general FUD as well. Thats all fine and dandy. But you made the accusations and failed to back them up, or even respond to my questions, presumably because you had no answer. Quote[/b] ]I can either spend time arguing about the mush you are trying to put in people's heads, or I can use that same time instead to try and put some of my own in instead. Refer to the questions that you completely failed to answer. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go watch my Dolphins get embaressingly pummeled. EDIT: To add to shin's earlier post (for fairness): Quote[/b] ]Voters Complain About Misleading Calls10 minutes ago By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN, Associated Press Writer LANSING, Mich. - Some Michigan voters have received phone calls falsely claiming that Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) would make gay marriage legal. In New Jersey, some voters have heard a man claiming to be former Army Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf backing the Democrat. Elderly voters in Pennsylvania have been called and told they are ineligible to vote. Link

Akira 0 Posted November 2, 2004 It's started (guess where): Link Quote[/b] ]13,000 Ballots Rushed From Voting Site, Must Be RecountedMemory Card On Optical Scan Machine Fails POSTED: 12:08 PM EST November 1, 2004 UPDATED: 6:42 PM EST November 1, 2004 About 13,000 ballots were removed from an early-voting site in Daytona Beach, Fla., Monday and rushed to a secure vault in Deland after an optical scan machine failed, according to Local 6 News. Local 6 News has learned that a memory card, on the machine failed and all 13,000 votes must be recounted. A computer error is to blame for the failure of the memory card which records the voting data, Local 6 News reported. When the error was discovered Monday, representatives from both parties were notified. Both sides then witnessed the removal of the ballots and their storage in the vault. The canvassing board will meet Monday to discuss how to recount the ballots. Election officials said that the discovery will not compromise the count, according to Local 6 News. Election monitors have also already noted irregularities. *sigh*

sputnik monroe 102 Posted November 2, 2004 Quote[/b] ]If there are Republicans there be friendly. LMAO! if that's a good one. Tomorrow will be the first time I've voted at a polling station. I've always voted via absentee ballot until I moved to Virginia. I couldn't meet the criteria for a absentee ballot this time. Tomorrow I will not be friendly, I will not be hostile. I will simply be indifferent and try to go unnoticed. I'm not there to socialize or debate, I'm there to cast my ballot and leave. I will not do anything that might risk me losing my vote, such as debating with a foaming at the mouth raving democrat who might assault me. Last thing I need is to get the shit beat out of me before I can vote or end up getting detained by the police while they sort out who's to blame for a fight. I'll admit though I'm not that confident about my vote. I will stop at nothing to cast my vote, though I'm not going to humor my self by saying it really counts. Who's to say my ballot will ever be counted any way? There are so many variables that can go foul. In the end I do it so I can say two words, I tried. In the end that is all I can do.
