Mapfact discussion thread

As we've some sparetime (one of the helping hands has PC-problems) I'll post some screenshots of the current progress on the next "Mapfact - Nogova" version (obviously v1.22).

For the people who don't know already...I just want to inform you that we've decided to change the "desert" part of Nogova to "greenland" within the next version. wink_o.gif

Nogova International Airport:

As you can see there's a new "military" part on the south-end of the airfield. It has six hangars and a large parking-area for aircrafts.

I'm thinking about including two or more "Config.pbos" in the next version. Each version enables another taxiway (to the mil. part or the civilian part) and maybe also the runway on Krasnovia. This should be done easily because raedor was so intelligent (with his wise foresight) to seperate the config-file in an own .pbo.

That's how it looks at the moment (may not 100% excatly what you'll get). As you can see the parkingplace has been improved and there also some "marked" parking-areas around the airfield (textures done by sniping-jack). Additionally objects from LMS "MilObject-Pack (another new Mapfact.net addon) have been placed around the map.

To prevent questions about used addons, here's a complete list (counts for all screens)...

North-east Base:

As you can see objects from LMS new pack have been also placed around the base. Also the fence(s) around the base was changed to a standard OFP one. The fences from the "Barracken-Addon" caused too much lag in the area around the base. This problem is fixed with the other "old" fences..no lag around the north-east corner of the island!

Here the buildings have been "moved" a little and obejcts from LMS new pack have been placed, too. Additionally there's a small "pier" for boats close to the bridge.

Fuelstations:

On fuelstations you'll now also find some placed barrels, pallets etc. On the fuelstation near the airport you'll additionally find a "repair-ramp" for vehicles.

Additionally to the two existing "Mine Ltd." locations there're two new places. One is a "gravel-mine" near the airport (former the ruines-area) and a small "mine" on the eastern part of the island.

Ok, that's it for the moment. Changes, improvments and some other things are already planed. We keep you informed.

Critics, ideas etc. are always welcome. But please remember the "Mapfact only" rule and keep your thoughts in "range".

Any you going to add to any of the towns?

I always thought there should be a small town near the airport, since it'd be one of the biggest employers on the island.

massive discussions are going on in our country at the moment about night flights over densely populated areas , so be aware of putting cities too close to the airport, the civilians might tend to "resist" wink_o.gif

Are you guys at MAPFACT or anyone working with you guys closely are going to make a new MAPFACT type Everon?

I heard someone was working on a new and better version of Everon, but I don't know who or exactly what..

The reason I ask is because the north area of Everon, especially the Airport seems to be very depressing every time I look at it, and its annoying to have that forest patch on the left of the runway.

I just think the north part (minimum) could use some major restructuring. Maybe even expand the island to a little bit larger than the standard BIS Everon.

Looks good, I always thought the desert area looked out of place on Nogova smile_o.gif

Well actually it isn't. The "desert" area (at least I think) is meant to be coastal dunes, we have them a lot in the Netherlands. These dunes are large heaps of sand dredged from the sea to protect the land against the water. Here are some pics of it:

So when you think about it, the "desert" isn't as weird as you think smile_o.gif

I realise that they might be meant to represent dunes, we have some large areas of dunes in this country too, but most of the dunes I've been to have grass growing on them in parts, the sandy area of Nogova is bare, closer to a desert than dunes.

I think it's a matter of personal preference but I think it looks much better without that sandy area, whether it's meant to be desert or dunes.

Just checked this thread, and what can I say.

Mapfact Nogova looks fantastic. All of the buildings just seem to fit in naturally to the surroundings, and the new infrastructure just looks great.

Keep up the good work guys, looks like this is going to be a permanent addition to my addons folder.

Are the docks and piers walkable for the AI? I'm asking since there are some islands (Tonal I think) where the AI can't walk on them since there are no paths in the p3d models, thus they can't mount any boats if you order them . . .

Are you asking because there're units placed on it on the screenshot? If so for the screens I just "setposed" them 5m above the ground and they "fall" on top of the pier.

But I just checked what happens if you place waypoints on the piers because you asked. For normal soldiers it works and they're moving to their WP like it's normal ground but vehicles make a turn around the concrete piers and drive into the sea.

/edit: And yes, they also mount the boats but the doesn't looks very good. I guess you can make it better looking with more WPs but I didn't tested it that "precise".

/edit2: No, they don't give you a "negative". Worst case is that they leave the dock and move into the water from normal ground. As you know they can walk "under water" for a couple of time so they'll always reach the boat but as mentioned without any tricks it doesn't looks very good.

I thought that you placed the units there for the screenshots, but I mean for example if you put an empty boat at the pier, and some soldiers somewhere on the ground (you're the officer). If you order your units to mount the boat, will they cross the dock and mount the boat or just try to reach it (without stepping at the dock) and finally report "negative" to you?

Looks great! A major improvement of the old version! smile_o.gif But I think the new grassland looks unrealistic. You can't have vast meadows when there was a desert before. Keep at least the hills and mountins a little bit rocky, or sandy. IMO it would be much better to see that this part of the island has changed.
