Third world explosion team

The Third World Explosion Team is assembling.

For those of you who haven't heard, 3WX is going to be an OFP architectural and landscaping firm. Our mission is to provide the most realistic and immersive 3D environments imaginable and possible for OFP and OFP2. We will operate a texture library, nursery and construction yard with materials freely available for all mod teams and mapmakers to use. All mod teams are encouraged to donate related projects and materials to the 3WX collection. These materials will be non-proprietary, the only caveat being that all donated materials will retain their original mod team tag and the addon maker must be credited in the readme for anyone using the product. 3WX original and altered products will be affixed with the 3WX tag and the addon maker appropriately credited as well.

There are all sorts of mod teams who make vehicles, aircraft, weapons and units for OFP, but there is no elite mod team making immersion products exclusively. We want to be that elite team. Instead of trying to assemble all new talent, we want and hope that modders skilled in this area from other teams will happily contribute their talent and time (when they have it) to enhancing this area of the game community wide.

We can all benefit from realistic environements and the products will be of use to all teams. Instead of each team working from scratch to enhance their mod, they can simply look into the 3WX inventory and pick and choose what they need. If we don't have it, they can contract out to us to make it. We will then assemble the necessary talent and deliver the product. I think this is a revolutionary concept in modmaking and it will be fun to pursue.

For those of you with the necessary talent, who have something to add to the inventory, or something we can make that your mod can use, or who are just genuinely curious, please feel free to pm or e-mail me.

Modelers

Texturers

Researchers

Scripters

Web Site Designer

Community Liason

Photographers around the world with access to a digital camera or who don't mind using film and scanning photos.

I only see red x's. Is this going to be a free thing or does

contract imply payment? Would you be doing trees and such?

Friggin Webshots! The pics show up for me. I'll have to find someone who can host these pictures.

The price of contracting with 3WX is simply that you share the addon with everyone and retain the maker's tag as well as credit him/her in the readme.

We are non-proprietary, which means our products will be available immediately upon completion and to all interested parties. We won't make something for a mod and then allow it to remain out of community hands until the mod decides to release it. If you want our products, you are going to have to be willing to share. wink_o.gif

I do not know if your web browsers have this but right click on the image and go to open image and it works fine. Also when we are done on our buildings and plants and stuff we will send them into you guys as long as Its okay with my modelers and texturers which I think it will be. I do not know if they exactly qualify as third world tho.

ok I see now. sounds good, and i just copy and pasted the

pic links to get them to work, and the door looks amazing

and the bookshelf is nice too. So this means you are doing

textures AND objects?

Outstanding guys. I just don't see the reason to hold addons that could lend absolute realism and a feeling of immersion off until then end of some mod completion. I'd rather have an inventory of buildings, plants and objects all modders can contribute to and take from whenever they need it.

Thanks for the compliments and remember, those are beta images. I've actually gotten better at texturing since then.

Hopefully I can get some of these master texture artists from the community interested in lending a hand.

Sounds like a really good idea. Maybe someone can sweet talk BAS into donating some of their Tonal buildings and objects. wink_o.gif

I've spoken with several well known modders, some of them are willing to help, some are still thinking things over.

Let's just say that behind the scenes and quietly for the last few weeks I've been assembling talented modders who are interested in a grassroots mod like this one. wink_o.gif

I've just gotten some offer to host pics. We need to get a website up and running but one of my main guys is on vacation right now and he's the one who will be working on this.

If you are a building designer, shoot me a pm or e-mail and I'll let you know what we are planning for our first big project.

The total set has more but this is a sample, most is european style but I have a few mideast/african style walls. The buildings in this set are unenterable, however they can be used in 1.40.

That looks excellent, that is exactly the kind of stuff we need. Especially someone who can texture walls and buildings to look worndown, dirty and generally "Third World".

We have a massive combined project underway that is going to blow the community's socks off. smile_o.gif

I do have another project in the works but it needs more testing and development.

What I would suggest is that authors release two versions of the addons on the site. One is the game addon version and the other is uncompressed developers stuff. This is mlod versions of the models (if done in Oxy and not hexedited) with photoshop compatable textures included, TGA pref.

I've got a massive texture library being assembled right now. Literally thousands and thousands of textures. I'm in the process of organizing them by material type and converting them over to .psp and .tga format for rapid editing.

We'll need webspace to host the library when its completed. But when teams get a look at it, they are going to faint.

I've gotten quite good at modifying and even outright creating tileable textures now too.

Would it be worth mentioning that collecting useable images of posters/propaganda might be worthwhile. Things like communist banners, various phrases in various languages ("Viva la revolucion!", "Libre!", etc.) might be useful. Maybe use setobjecttexture on your buildings/walls so they can represent a wide range of locales with different posters/graffitti.

And Hellfish, good point there mate, that would be nice too.

I was trying to decide if I was going to retexture some of the standart BIS buildings. I wanted to have the apartment buildings with bullet holes and things like that. I'm a mission editor, but if I get the time for them textures I'll handle them over to you guys to add it to the library and the pbo's.

That is a good idea. A lot of buildings can translate easily from region to region, with just a few changes.

Right now I've got researchers who live in the Middle East doing some photography work and I live in the desert southwest and am doing the same. You would be amazed how many old adobe buildings and palm trees here look like they belong in the Middle East.

@m21man, if you can model buildings and texture them, we need architects for our current project. I need someone else who can make urban buildings and dwellings. I have 3 builders right now, but we have a lot of things that need to be made.

I've got a lot of stuff to do, but I might be able to do a little work for 3WX. Give me some specific ideas (I can model, texture, and config smile_o.gif ).
