We've also been offered a private area on the Zeus forums and use of thier MP server for internal beta testing

There is no need for sarcasm it doesnt promote good teamwork

as you inadvertantly missed my point, the point was that there are dedicated server owners and owners of website forums that are already up and running and that have offered within their sites private forums for further discussion therefore there is no reason to go to additional lengths, creating more work when it is already waiting

I do apologise if you find this insulting but i did feel you needed it explaining in a more simplified manner as subtlety doersnt seem to be your strong point

You re saying we can use someone's webspace and forum.. good, no need to make a new one then, saves us time and trouble.

My suggestion.

Lets start out by making the different themes where the missions should be based around.

I think the idea of certain themed mission packs is a good way to start out. I m currently making 2-3 new missions ( co-ops, cause i think that s where the most need is ) around a "desert" theme.

So why dont we all come up with some themes, and make a decission what themes to use and get started.

Here are a few themes that come to my mind, we could make co ops, sp, minicampaigns etc out of them, would be nice to have a themepack filled with nice goodies.

1: Desert ( missions based in desert enviorments )

2: Jungle ( missions based in Jungle )

3: Ambush ( all kinds of different ambush types of missions )

4: assault ( various assault missions -bases, airfields, etc )

5: Airwar ( pilot kinda missions )

6: Sneaky ( the specops stuff, aka non-rambo missions )

7: Winter ( mmmmh, nice white surroundings )

8: Tanker ( tankbattles )

9: Vietnam ( no need to explain )

10: WW2 ( dito )

So post your idea's and lets at last get started on this thing we set into motion.

I m already making rough missions that i can finish once we get started.

We could also use some webspace to upload already finished missions of ours that just needs tweaking or adjusting certain bits we dont get right but maybe others in the team might.

And yes, then there s the name thingy. How we gonna call the team, would be cool ( and also good for servers ) if all the missions we produce have a mission team tag into the missions name, kinde like C2-8 -- Desert Ambush [TMF] or something ( TMF = The Mission Factory, i know i suck at names hehe )

Ex-Ronin suggested 'Invasion' which I thinks a good 'un

Hostage - could range from taking hostages to saving them or even playing a hostage

Escape & Evasion - legging it back to safety, hunting down someone trying to leg it to safety etc.

Search & Rescue - searching for a lost squad, search for a enemy squad in the area and stop them being rescued, fighting off enemy forces until your rescued etc.

Could we get that private area on the Zeus forums set up ASAP? Could we just use a crappy freewebs site to upload the files to? I know its crap but its better than nothing. I'll try and find my old site on it...

About a site for hosting the missions, i still got a webspace available ( unlimited size ) which we can use. It s for another 10 months for now, i just renewed the account and dont use it for now. Or can Zeus host ?

Ok dudes,

I can set up a forum for you. The forum will be basic, no fancy graphics and stuff as I see no need for it.

Gotta check if I can get an extra domain name, else it will be a subsite of zeus if you don't mind.

EDIT: I added a new category to our forums to get it started. Please register to our ZEUS forums before posting, thank you. This is only a temporary solution until a dedicated forum is up. You can access it through the ZEUS homepage or directly using THIS link.

Webspace: As we host a shitload of addons already I think I can't offer more then 150-200 MB. Should be plenty for missions and other mapmaking related files, though. Correct me if I am wrong.

Traffic: We have 1 Terabyte of monthly traffic for free, guess that's enough. The site is very fast, I get 100 kb/s+ from home with 768 DSL and 2-3 MB/s from work.

Timeframe: I will be very busy this weekend so I think I cannot get it done before next week. Please bear with me.

Testserver: We have a full featured, private Linux testserver  featuring OFPWatch and a huge set of addons. I will give login and admin password to a restricted group which we will define after people start registering on the new Revival Mission forum.

Concerning upload of maps and addons to the gameserver: Please understand that (at least in the beginning) this can only be done through me or other server admins I will name in the new forum when it's done. I know this is bad for flexibility but I hope you understand my concerns with letting people I don't know (yet) to fiddle around on our gameserver.

Addons: I will NOT install every addon on the server to not compromise its stability. Only tested and MP compatible stuff with fixed addon dependancies etc. will make it in. Please bear that in mind when you design your missions to be tested on our server.

Please post further suggestions here.

A personal note: I am happy to offer our resources for this project as I think new quality missions are what OFP needs most to stay alive.

However I have a full time job, a fiancée and a real life too. Please bear with me when things don't happen as fast as you might expect. If you (understandably) feel you need 1000% availability and dedication from my side I suggest to find another possibility as I simply cannot guarantee it.

That said, I hope this initiative takes off and provides the community a lot of fun missions to play!

Thx for the offer, and it s a great offer.

I too am married ( you not just yet i know ... enjoy the moment ) and have a little daughter and my own company, so i understand very well you not being able to respond when we click our fingers, and that s not needed also.

I feel this is just starting out very basicly and we will see in what it will evolve. For now, what you are offering is more then we need and we re very grateful for that

The timespan you re saying will be perfect too, as i dont see it really taking off before that.

Concerning the upload is fine too. We werent gonna let everybody upload anyway, there wouldve been a few ppl with the passwords. So that s no problem.

About the mission testing and the addons needed to do so. If we cant test on the server ( due to addons not installed ) we can always host a game privately and test it that way.

So none of the things you say that might be a problem is one - for me at least -.

Forum is just to discuss omong the team, so no need for it to be fancy.

So, thx very very much for that things you re offering

Just do it in your own time, no hurry cause we need to sort out alot of things anyway before this thing can really start.
