Aia mod died !

Picked this from the forum.

Unfortunately its true, AIA has been dead for about a week, but sniper was the one to announce it.

I dont blame trench in any way, as he told me, he was the only one really doing any work, and it was on a scenario he didnt even like!

The "MOD Idea" has died long time ago.

Look at all those fantastic features addons/small addon packs today have.

It is close to impossible to make a hugh number of addons and release them in a pack. If one important member is going away from a team, the whole mod is in "danger".

Today I think it is better to concentrate on one or a few addons with a small team.

The chance to finish it is much greater.

I agree. If you consider the number of mods started compared to the number which have been/look like being finished, it must be something like a 10/1 ratio. Even the longstanding ones like Falklands Mod and Gulf War Crisis may not be out before OFP 2 arrives. IMO smaller, more flexible releases are a much better bet for all concerned.

Lee, I mostly agree with everything you say (even in the USMC thread) but..

look at Flashpoint in the Falklands mod, and tell me that mods are a bad idea wink_o.gif

Looking realistic or with the "oh wow, look at those screenshots" - view?

Seeing it realistic, I would say yes, it´s a "bad" idea.

Most "big" mods are not useable with other addons. (strenght of weapons, recoil..etc). Then you have to use the whole mod(all addons) even if you just want to use a hummer with mg(wargames add pack) or a apache longbow(boh).

Mods are taking ages bevor you can use it, cause all those addons take alot of time, a campaign needs also time, then the big amount of bugs that must be found(bugs that only the "community" can found) and so on.

And as time goes on, some addons are "finished", another addon maker breaks another barrier of the ofp engine. Look how long the RHS tanks are under development and now dkm has found out how to make realistic tank movement and the gun recoil.

There are so many points speaking against the mod idea.

Look at the bw-mod, all looked good, 3 demos are released and finally it died.

Now the new bw-mod is going the other(better) way.

Finish one(few) adoon(s) and release it.

Users are happy with the release, can find bugs, can play with it(make missions)... etc.

It´s also easier to update single addons or bring new features to it.

And... I talk to much!

Verys sad news,how is Trenchfeet getting blamed for anything? He went to the mod and brought life...Before him AIA was known to not release any stuff.

Hard to say if the mod is actually dead, the admins have been away lately and stop blaming Trenchfeet for anything.

How could he possibly have anything to do with it, he just wanted a team to make mods with,not for.

As far as I know AiA isn't dead, I was helping them too and I am still here

BaTTy take it from me, i was temporary mod leader for a month, until Klesk "came back" 2 weeks ago, AIA is now dead.

Noone is blaming trench because he made AIA happen.....to be honest, he was the only really working member (ok, and waterman).....just when we kicked out the crap (people who didnt do anything), some of our remaining team decided theyd start thier OWN mod, further removing the focus, klesk didnt show up as promised, the admins stopped showing, and here we are.

Hopefully the carcass of this mod will not go to waste and former members join to speed up other projects like I44 mod or Liberation 41-45 mods etc. I don't support the idea of just doing small addons, full mods are way to go as long as they co-operate and take advantage of other addons. The idea that every team must do everything itself is plain stupid and just piles up too much useless work...

I44 has kept low profile lately which is certainly not a bad thing. And their screens do show progress.

WW2EC stuff is great but it's just piles and piles of individual addons basically.

I believe,

releasing individual addons is a farse, who wants to download that shit anymore, OFP is old, and the only way to play it is with the best "packs" that have people s heart and soul poured into them... i see individual addons as a huge unorganized pain in the ass... it only takes vision and cooperation to keep a mod on track and in sight of their goals, i believe the best form of release is an Island Pack like the tonal pack...

Show of all your goods in one package, the sad thing is, alot of people lose track of their goals and visions before it can be realized...

and TRENCHFEET deserves sooooo much respect that i cant believe his name could be uttered in a negitive fashion in regards to AIA, im sure it was very hard for him to finally leave AIA to join another team, a team that he actually was inspired By, and that he could work With...

Much props Trench, youre a good guy, and were the life blood of AIA in my opinion thru my time there, and you always represented them well, you put them on the map for god sakes

(with Lawrie as well of course, and any other members who worked hard - Pertti i think his name is... etc.)

much respect to AIA and i do hope you come back for revenge on all the Nay sayers, though im sorry i cant hep personally as i cant let my mod collapse in the mean time, one of my top guys Wilco, has informed me that he would like to do his best to get you back up on your feet (i could do some professional graphic design for you guys tho.. just like old times eh)

I think its more like:

Nice addons are a more realistic scope for a mod team,looking to complete the whole thing,takes alot of patience and cooperation between a number of people.

From what I see ,joint effort addons come out nicest.

Bas choppers and addons are a good example.RHS tanks and such.

To sit there and say that your gonna release a whole mod that involves many changes and addons is a large project.

Prolly resulting in never getting anything released.

Altho there has been some sucess in this,these projects should have been worked on within the last years rather than starting a new mod today

You would need an very active team

LOTS of people like dloading single addons. A lot of mods go belly up and if werent for all the single addons keeping people interested in playing OFP, most people would go play other games instead of waiting a year for a mod to release a beta.

i agree with path about his options at aia

also i will finish the addons i started

the demise was down to, too few real members in the end.

there was about 2 addon makers a mod leader (tempory) and a couple of others.

perhaps a warning to community members don just join a mod to beta test something etc..... thats kills the mod

why not let the concept be "absorbed" by the apparently strong "WWII" mod?

After all, its ww2 stuff isnt it?! and the wwII-team concentrate on tanks & units/weapons,

so it would be natural to see AIA ideas continue as part of the ww2 mod.

Maybe the guys doing 80% of the work can just release addons that people can enjoy?

The large mods have their place, however, there would not be a fanbase waiting for the latest BAS/RHS release or hanging on for more teaser shots from I44 without the constant release of small addons to keep the community interested.

If a mod can set itself up like BAS <which to all intent is a professional production/development team minus the paychecks> then they might survive

groups of modders working loosely in a "mod" framework is generally more hassle than collaberation.

There will only be one BAS. Besides, the Tonal/OPFOR pack was basically a mod (In my opinion tounge_o.gif ).
