I won't get all defensive over this as I know what it was made for and where it's headed, along with knowing the limitations of the engine and how to try and get the best framerates vs visual quality. Trying to color correct everything to fit the resistance terrain colors (to save people from downloading a 40meg island), trying to juggle textures size vs lods, etc. I could have just made it all pretty with my original 1024x1024 textures for everything. Would have looked nice, but would have lagged like hell. There are a few things I'm going to update for the RSSZ as I know where I cut corners to get it done in a weeks time. I think the balance of lag vs "pretty" ended up pretty well. Oh wait, I just got defensive Anyway, it'll die away like most addons do, so wasting a bunch of time on it was not something I was looking to do. @cero 0 Posted January 6, 2004 I understood from the beaguining( yeah right...) Jokes apart. If people is going to be working in this islad, it would be interesting to know. You don't want to end up having lots of them being released, all nice and dificult to choose from. Gosh, I have enough addons in my hard drive and not enough time to edit. Actually, seeing that alot of editing tools seems to work propelly in my current pc, I'll give it a try to terrain editing... I had alot of problems with tools such as texview and things like that in my old computer, but maybe was just me and I become more aware of things now, or I have learned more. @CERO. ebud 18 Posted January 6, 2004 Very true, but it would kind of be a fun idea to pass this island around and have other people work on it for say a week or so, then pass it on to the next guy, then back, then to someone else, etc. Could make for a fun project. We used to do that at work with website look and feel concepts for fun. You'd be suprised at how well it worked. Just an idea, could be fun. Don't look at it as anything more than that. ebud 18 Posted January 6, 2004 A long time ago made a 1/4 scale Rung Sat map from dems and navy map overlays. Recently I updated the terrain and asked nagual to get a working config for it. It's looking pretty good. I made this small map as a testbed for future work on it. Making rice paddies by using the roadtool was a real breakthrough for me, along with trying to get decent non lag grass tiles that lay out like forests. The little bananna plants and palms can be edited to death, same with the plants. This was just an exercise to learn wrptool and to quickly get a playable map with all those items in place. Just google rung sat and you'll find lots of good info. Also if you go to http://www.terrainmap.com/ you can eventually find good satallite imagery of southern Vietnam in hi-res format. ebud 18 Posted January 6, 2004 It's the area southeast of Saigon. Like I mentioned a few posts above, I have it in about 1/4 scale, but it still takes up a large map. I have a good hi res sat photo and some good 60's Naval maps of the area so getting things in the right locations should be easy, if time consuming. But thanks to the wrptool I can add as much or as little random plantlife as will work for a 2000 view distance from the air. Most of the area is open swampy grassland and lo brush with very few villages, towns or roads. A lot like how Malden feels I would think if it were flat. Like I said, if you google rung sat and look at the pics that show up, I'm hoping it'll look like that. Sorry for late reply, basically it stops AI leader giving targets to his AI leading to AI shooting through bushes from 200 metres etc. The AI act more independently. I don't know what caused your suicide bomber but it sounds interesting. As it's open source I have made a more hilly version of it, as it's Vietnam and you need hills to assault etc... ebud 18 Posted January 7, 2004 with the new p3ds you really don't need that (as much) as now the tall grass will hide you. And for those who mentioned things about the ai not seeing you when they are right next to you. The view lods have view blocking shapes the same size as the grasses and in the same spots so I'm not sure what would be causing that. Also it may look weird as you can see through the blades of grass, but the ai just sees a box the size of the grass p3d shape. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That's a long term project with no final date in sight. hehe, but yes, I'm slowly working on them a little at a time along with a mssc and a modified pbr. I'm hoping by the time OFP2 comes out I'll have my little brown water Navy ready to go. Hopefully then I can add all the extra guns to them.
