Just out of curiosity

Recommended Posts

Don't go panicking or whining about selling out. Just out of curiosity I am wondering who, if anybody, would be willing to reward reputable and high quality addon makers financially if it were legally possible (which it aint).

This is just HYPOTHETICAL!!! Please dont be an ass about this. Just for curiosity sake.

So...the question....if it was legally possible (as we all know we cannot sell products made with O2 or Visitor) would you be willing to make some kind of payment for an addon from a reputable and high quality mod/team?

Bah, non-free addons would mean even less missions so there would be no point.

No, I would not pay.

However, there's a difference between a great addon and a great expansion.

Assuming someone were granted CM's legal approval to sell a custom made expansion pack, it would have to include new high quality adddons as well as very high quality campaigns and missions.

Even then, I would expect the price to be very low. I've spent enough money already on the game.

Eizei's remark about fewer missions was right on the money!

Would you pay if all of the money was to be given to a charity?

It would come to a lot of money for many of the players, especially the younger ones, unless they sell crack on the corner between OFP sessions. wow_o.gif

Even at $1.00 per addon, you could easily reach $50 in expenses and, again, what missions are you guranteed to have to play them in. Read my sig's bottom line about that.

Yes, but with a provision; there would have to be a good few missions bundled with the addon, if not an actual campaign.

Not a chance. Never. A lot of the charm with addons are that they are easily downloadable and free. Especially considering that in most cases they're very little more than toys that people play with for 10 minutes and then start whining about when some other cool addon they want to be released.

I would also not pay for an addon, it wouldnt be fair also. Then one MOD for example get paid and the other Mod wouldnt. I think in my opinion that the community will fall apart with this. Because nobody will make addons while an  other mod gets paid.  wink_o.gif

If it goes beyond engine limitation, if it has more then 20 vehicles + units, with campaign and missions , mp missions

then "maybe"

but else its never.

I would never pay for an addon because it is just an addon and nothing more.

I think i wouldnt pay for just a addon but on projects like the Retalliation campaign wich will have proffessional studio made voice recordings and new addons i am willing to pay.

And i also would pay for a addon created just for me, like i always wanted my NX2000 in the game but yet noone at RHS had any time left so i rather learn to make it myself or pay for it... or live without it tounge_o.gif

Just another 'Out of Curiosity', what do people think about paying for a CD to be sent to you containing addons? So basically mail order, obviously this wont apply to most of you as you can download addons, but there are some with either limits, or on slow connections where it would be cheaper and faster to have the addons sent to you than to download them, so what do people think of mail order addons?

And obviously this would, for example, be a compilation of all BAS' addons in one package, which would total probably nigh on 200mb of addons. And the addons would be freely available for download, the charge would be only for posting and packaging, the CD's and a little extra for the effort, not the addons themselves.

Again, dont read into this too much, we're just wondering what the community's reaction to these sorts of things would be.

I'd rather you just aproached a few of the reputable PC~Gaming mags [cough! spammags] and had them shipped out in the same way Merciless had theirs done. Otherwise, how much would this 'little extra for the effort' cost? Theoreticly of course!...
