ebud 18 Posted September 3, 2003 Some features:-Custom terrain textures -Custom made buildings and textures, vegetation, objects (as well as some standard BIS objects) Are all the textures new custom made? How many objects is there? Yes, probably about 80% or more of the textures are all made by hand by myself and Nag. Only a very few models and textures are straight from the original game. Most everything has been edited in some way, but still will feel like it belongs in OFP. Lots.
dm 9 Posted September 3, 2003 Performance? How does it run in its current stage? Im asking because Nogova doesnt run all that great compared to other islands dispite the fact that i have good sistem specs. Detail, will you guys have to sacrifice the amount of vegetation and stuff because of higher rez vegetation and buildings used? Or can we expect dense forest/jungle with bushes and stuff? . We have gone to great lengths to ensure that the island will run on MOST computers, however, I would suggest that anyone lower than 1 GHz / 32 Meg GFX Card should forget about it, as it is a BIG island, with a LOT of detail. And we haven't sacrificed ANY detail for polys, in fact, I think that this island is MORE detailed than any of the BIS, or current islands for that matter It's all to do with careful polygon useage, and sweet textures, made by the lads
Eviscerator 0 Posted September 3, 2003 I wouldnt say anyone lower than 1ghz and 32mb graphics card should forget it, i think the required specs for OFP:R is about what you'll need to play on the island, lets put it this way, in the largest city, i get a hell of a lot less of a performance hit than i do in Lipany, even though our largest city is a lot more dense and a great deal bigger than Lipany. For example, Lipany, BIS' largest 'city' covers 300mx300m, the largest city on our island covers somewhere in the region of two square kilometres (although this is subject to change), its also much more densely packed and is not the only large city/town on the island by far. Heatseeker 0 Posted September 3, 2003 Thanks, it just came to mind because you guys seem to be developing you own OPF2 in model and texture department and i was a bit concerned if all your high detail units and vehicals plus the desert vehical pack and now this island wouldnt be a bit too much for the game engine, you know, all that beautyfull stuff runing at the same time . edit: two square km , wow . SFG 1 Posted September 4, 2003 You know a pic could explain "big"...
Eviscerator 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Well...its a picture anyway... The picture above shows lipany in scale with the size of our biggest city, on the left is 2x2 grid squares, the rough size of the city and in the circle (and inset) is lipany, for scale. Cloney 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Are you creating african civilians with the island? I don't want to shoot Africans, they're worse off enough without the multiple gunshot wounds. Lets kill some FARC assholes instead, they are far more dangerous than an African guy with a skirt and a gun.
The Frenchman 0 Posted September 4, 2003 I am not talking about the bush pygmies in the heart of Africa. I mean civilian models based on the areas in the more modernized but still 3rd world. Dont the BIS civilian models look weird in africa? It would add a new kind of combat or parameter. No civilian casualties or the mission is a failure
4 IN 1 0 Posted September 4, 2003 HOLY FREAKEN CHRIST ALMIGHTY THE CITY IS BIG!!!! i wonder my 1800+ and 9500 PRO PC could load that thing up..........may be i need to turn off most spec. effect........
One 0 Posted September 4, 2003 man my computer lags like hell when I play ranger extaction and i have a pretty beastly computer - so i figure missions using high quality addons in a city this large would be largely unplayable (less than 10 fps for sure)
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Gentlemen and ladies, The reason the island has many of our own object is precisely to cut down on lag....standard BIS building can have up 100+ faces....we have created new objects which have highly reduced poly counts. What does this mean? More objects in larger spaces for the same performance hit. I tell ya...flying over this huge city in a Littlebird gave little performance hit at all.......I am still amazed at the technical achievement we were able to implement here. The city is, simply put, HUGE and opens up a whole new suite of gameplay and mission scenarios.
theavonlady 2 Posted September 4, 2003 The reason the island has many of our own object is precisely to cut down on lag....standard BIS building can have up 100+ faces....we have created new objects which have highly reduced poly counts. Does that make it easier to warp through them?
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted September 4, 2003 We are ironing out those issues now....we have noticed some warping but we aren't sure if this is from the models missing certain geo lods or whether its an issue with low poly models. Regardless...rest assured we are working on it.
theavonlady 2 Posted September 4, 2003 We are ironing out those issues now....we have noticed some warping but we aren't sure if this is from the models missing certain geo lods or whether its an issue with low poly models. I was really taking a pot shot asking that question, as I have no inkling what makes one object more warpable than another. One way to test how badly you can warp through an object is by setting time acceleration to 4x. If you can run straight through it, there's a problem. I tested this out with many buildings on an early version of Cat's S. Afghanistan island.
Tigershark_BAS 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Oh...and as a side note...Nag is working on missions for this island and I'm working on my own mini campaign....nothing fancy as my scripting days have been lost amongst addon making knowledge...but should be decent enough gameplay and pretty cool storyline. Bluesman 0 Posted September 4, 2003 If it's not too late, consider this. Many islands are nice but lack one thing. Some personallity. Could you be convinced of adding some personallity touches? One little touch would be; Some logos, billboards and signs (either known brands like Heineken, Coca Cola or your made up stuff). I'd like to see buildings with advertising. Gas stations with real brands (Shell, BP, Texaco) etc. BM
