The m2/m3 bradley

Recommended Posts

Well whatever the armor is, it appears different and heavier then on the original M2 and it appears to stop RPG-7's according to reports from soldiers who have had their M2A2's hit by RPG fire.  If a .50 cal has more armor piercing capability then an RPG-7, then I think most military forces would be using  .50 cal and 14.5mm anti-tank rifles rather then RPG's and similar AT rockets.   From the information I've found, the powerful .50 cal BMG SLAP round is only capable of penetrating 19mm of armor (which is more then what most APC's have on their side armor).

http://leav-www.army.mil/threats....001.pdf

An standard RPG-7 AT round (not the newer versions) can penetrate up to 330mm of armor.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/rpg-7.htm

That's a hell of a big difference. That's why there has been some speculation that the armored panels on the Bradleys are made up of deplated uranium.

The Israeli Zelda (up-armored M113) is configured in much the same way and likewise is able to withstand RPG attacks to the front and side of the vehicle. I don't think it's published anywhere what their armored panels are made of.

After that it's just a matter of texturing it.

Thats also the hardest/longest bit.

Pics, if any, will be shown when we move to a new server, since the current one is fudged...

iraq and rpg7

this will explain why most bradleys hit by an rpg 7 survived just look under the pics of the m113s

i will not that the idea of using wire racks and even mattress springs was derived from russian doctine learned in WW2 to keep panzerfuasts from disabling russian tanks

And about armour, ect - u should go to DKM's forum. There were long discussion about it. And about some config misses in BIS M2 config.

That link isn't working.

Edit:  Ah nevermind...I chopped off some of the URL and was able to get too the page from another site directory.  Odd...  reading it now.

Ok I read the article, but I have yet to see a single IFV with its sides covered in chickenwire or any kind of wire mesh. Nor have I seen them with large cargo storage boxes except around the turrets. The sides, aside from having some TA50 hanging off the sides, are for the most part just covered with the regular armor plates in the pics posted earlier of the A2 and A3 versions of the Bradley. It's also unclear if this author had access to after-action reviews or whether it was just rumors and stories he heard (which spread like wildfire).

However the information about the usage of wire mesh to defeat RPG-7's in Vietnam certainly is valid. I just haven't seen any evidence of similar tactics being used with IFV's in Iraq.

I've started the woodland camo version of the Bradley, but realized, is there a difference between the Nato and US camo patterns?  The only image I can find of a bradley in camo is 3 colors, black, earth and olive.  I know that there are 3 and 4-color schemes, but cannot find an example to differentiate between Nato and US.

Anyone have a link or a photo?

Thanks.

I believe, that the Standard NATO Tri-Colour looks like this:

Bradley_M2A2-1.jpg

This is a "standard" camo-scheme for most US vehicles, but the paint-job is very much up to the paintshop that does it.

Most US Bradleys that aren't in Tri-Colour are plain Tan:

There are some exceptions however:

A 3-Colour scheme on an A0

m2bradley.jpg

A different 3-Colour scheme on an A0

And there are other variations out there, as I said, its up to the paintshop who paints it, but since the NATO-Tri Colour is what most NATO paintshops have these days (US, British etc) then thats what I'd suggest you do. smile_o.gif

(At least BIS got the Camo right... smile_o.gif )

I've only seen the older three-color version (as seen above on the M2A0) on rusted/decrepit old National Guard M113s and 2.5 ton trucks. I think it was a scheme used mostly in the post-Vietnam to 1985 era. There were two other variations of the three color scheme during this time as well, one was a winter version with black, whitish grey and that loamy medium green. Then there was a desert version with a medium brown, dark green and I think a light tan as well.

I always taught that the BIS bradley was in National Guard Colours that's why i'm asking for NATO colours

Ok, kids, here are some screenshots of the progress of the M2's.  Desert version is 95% complete and I just started the US/Nato camo version.

Wow... they look REALLY good! When you release them, are they going to seamlessly overwrite the BIS version?

Actually it is never a good idea to overwite the BIS versions. So, in short, no they will not. Sorry.

Oh well. I'll still play with 'em! smile_o.gif

You could always just swap out m2a2.pbo with this.

It does look very nice. Especially the woodland version.

OooOOoOOOoh! Are you just reskinning or modifying the config also?

Both.

Please upgrade the armour value.

I agree. I think the best armour value would be one that (if possible) allows the Bradley to be destroyed sometimes by one RPG hit and sometimes by two. Although having thought about it it may not be possible. Still, on balance I'd go for two hits to take it out. But I guess realistically the M2A0 probably couldn't stand up to an RPG from any angle - only the later models can (apparently) do that.

Excellent work Rude, looking good my man.

Just a question...

Since these reskins look so good, can I ask, why havent you done anything like this before?!?!?!

biggrin_o.gif

Keep up the good work mate, looks really promising so far!
