357mag 0 Posted August 6, 2003 I read a few good reviews on Operation Flashpoint so I went out and bought it. Haven't installed it yet cuz I haven't decided what to play next. Just finished up Soldier of Fortune. Is Operation Flashpoint pretty good?
KTM_Calle 0 Posted August 6, 2003 All i can say is, Operation Flashpoint is the best game ever developed on this planet. Period. I think you should install it right away!
theavonlady 2 Posted August 6, 2003 Why are you wasting time posting here? You'll find plenty of install and customization tips and more at The FAQ.
Kings Crown 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Ohh you should really install it and play the campaigns, they are the best i've ever seen, because the story's are so good
SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted August 6, 2003 After you've installed the game you should certainly look out for video missions in this section to see the true capacity of flashpoint. ok, ok, i'll stop now
Shashman 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Talking about video missions : I want to show OFP to a friend but all I have found are the three videos posted in the desert mission thread. When I say "videos" I mean MPGs or AVIs,etc...Not video missions
Scorpio 0 Posted August 6, 2003 357mag - I think the Addons are mainly what makes it so great. If you have the original Cold War Crisis version then you'll be bored by the limited number vehicles and other addons there are... if you have the CWC version then I highly recommend you upgrade to Resistance, and then upgrade with the patch to v1.91. Look around at the some of the community sites so you can get some addons...I suggest you get the top quality addons though, it'll make it all worth while. You'll have tons of fun playing with them, and creating missions. Also, skim through in Avon Lady's FAQ so you get a basic understanding of how the game works and how to play it effectively. TopCover 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Be prepared to be slightly pissed of at the skills of the AI at first! They WILL see you and they WILL shoot you. When you find yourself playing an OFP mission and you are crouching in the forest and you begin to feel paranoid, that's when you are getting into the right game attitude. When you find yourself spotting tiny soldiers at 600-800m and sniping them with a deflection to make up for their running, that when you are getting your skills at OFP levels. As said before: Do play the campaigns, they're awesome. Have fun, or die trying! Basicly, you bought war in a box. TopCover

sanctuary 19 Posted August 6, 2003 If you have the original Cold War Crisis version then you'll be bored by the limited number vehicles and other addons there are... I have ColdWarCrisis (+RedHammer campaigns) since near 2 years now and i am absolutely not bored of the game , waiting for my next computer upgrade to buy Resistance and have it smoother than Res demo version. If you like more realistic infantry simulation (that has a lot of vehicles that you can use too) with individual or squad level, i think you will not be disapointed by OFP. It takes time to have the controls in hands when you begin, so you will find it very hard in your first game, but with the time you will have the game in hand and enjoy it a lot. And the mission editor is one of the more interesting tool i ever used in a game. Be prepared to be slightly pissed of at the skills of the AI at first! They WILL see you and they WILL shoot you. When you find yourself playing an OFP mission and you are crouching in the forest and you begin to feel paranoid, that's when you are getting into the right game attitude Oh, and you must not forget to patch OFP , in the first versions of the game , you cant hide yourself from the enemy AI (if one AI see you, all the AI of the map know where you are) and they are too unrealisticly accurate . With the patches, it is very good now and more realistic.
Placebo 29 Posted August 6, 2003 The mission "Steal The Car" alone is better than the whole of any other game in the genre, not that there truly are any other games in Opf's genre as nothing so far has come even close.
Harnu 0 Posted August 6, 2003 The mission "Steal The Car" alone is better than the whole of any other game in the genre, not that there truly are any other games in Opf's genre as nothing so far has come even close. First mission I ever played with OFP. Gotta love it! Check out the Combat Photography thread for pics of what we all do. And contribute some yourself 357 if you'd like. Scope-SWAF- 0 Posted August 6, 2003 OFP makes you sit in your computer night after night, doing nothing but OFP, and then you become a paranoid Forum rat and start wondering why did you ever lay your fingers on OFP ^_^ just kidding, welcome to wonderfull world of OFP, you wont regret that you bought this game, theres plenty of brilliant addons you cant d/load when you get bored with the standard vehicles and units
iNeo 0 Posted August 6, 2003 @ Aug. 06 2003,21:03)][...] theres plenty of brilliant addons you cant d/load when you get bored with the standard vehicles and units lol, can't?! Ambush (demo version) was my first mission to play too, I loved it and played it many times
Placebo 29 Posted August 6, 2003 Well obviously Demo-Ambush was my first mission too, but he didn't say "I've just downloaded the demo" he said "I just bought the game", thus I discussed the first mission I played in the retail version
Sole 0 Posted August 6, 2003 First retail mission.. uh.. I dunno... I guess I opened the editor first to check the vehicles out that werent in the demo and after that.. I guess I either started the campaign or played "Steal The Car"
357mag 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Actually I don't know what add-ons are, I don't know what a bot or a mod is. I don't even understand what a skin is. I just play single player, no multi-player. And why does AvonLady think I'm wasting time?

walker 0 Posted August 6, 2003 Actually I don't know what add-ons are, Addons are extra vehicles (like Cars Tanks Aeroplanes Copters Boats) weapons (Different types of guns, mortars rocket Launchers etc I don't know what a bot or a mod is. As to Bot it means AI short for robot AFAIK MODs are major modifications of OFP Such as the WWII mod or the SEB Nam MOD, BAS or even things like (Blowing our own trumpet) The Chain of Command (CoC) which adds an extra layer of strategy on OFP with the Command Engine Click my sig to see it. Many MODs include new islands. As an aside there are a vast array of tools to MOD OFP with not just the Mission Editor. These are the things that allow you to MOD (Modify) OFP and include island editors Like Visitor (official) and Wmd Edit unoficial as well as Oxygen the official addon editor see this forum in the breath Oxygen section for more info. Have a look at OFPEC and OFP INFO and Avon's Site to find more see the links page for this site or in the side navigation bar of the CoC site for details. There are thousands of unoficial missions and campaigns you will see them advertised all over OFP. I don't even understand what a skin is. A skin is an existing model that has been reskinned so you might do a Tank in Desert Camoflage as one skin or in white winter camo as another. It also aplies to faces used in MP if you look at Avons Avatar you can see what I mean. I just play single player, no multi-player. And why does AvonLady think I'm wasting time? Better to play OFP or still better fire up the editor and design your own wars than chat here I think she is trying to say (How many posts is it you have made now Avon?) Kind Regards Walker
