colonel_klink 0 Posted June 29, 2003 What a seemingly pointless thread. I mean look at all the new addons we've had since OFP was released, each addon has its own merits, and each one deserves a mention. So, to all the addon makers who have not had their addons mentioned, here's to you. You've all done a great job, and may you continue to do so. And to those who have been mentioned, well done too. And my favorites? I have none. They are all good in my opinion.
MP Studio 0 Posted June 29, 2003 I like the BAS Stuff, but i prefer Inquisitors Weapons. If you put the Deltas and Rangers together with Inq High Detailled Weapons its amazing. Than the APC Beta Pack of AK74M makes a lot. The Baracken Addon of course. Well i think that are my actual favorite Addons.
Schoeler 0 Posted June 29, 2003 I find it mildly entertaining that all the top modmakers somewhat denegrated this thread but hey lookee, they came hear to read it. Says with a smirking grin: Masochistic bastards! You just had to see didn't you? It is a bitpointless though isn't it? I mean a lot of addons have been terrific and they get better every time, so either we keep changing our votes and our mod biases, or we just enjoy what we have at any given time and wait with joyful anticipation for the next release and of course OFP2. Cheers all.
Major Fubar 0 Posted June 30, 2003 Well fuck, I didn't expect this thread to be the definitive list of all time! It was an attempt to help gauge public opinion of what should possibly go into universal addon packs (or a starting point anyway). Why so many addon makers getting their knickers in a twist over this? OK, so maybe you feel bad more of your own addons didn't get voted for - so what? Nobody forced people to respond to this thread, nobody is forcing people to read it, and most definitely no one is claiming this is the be all and end all definitive list of good addons out there. Can you really not see the point of why I started this thread (quite some time ago I should add)? So are you saying the community shouldn't have input into what goes into addon packs - only addon makers should have a voice? Bizarre...

philcommando 0 Posted July 1, 2003 LOL! cool down Major Fuber. I think its a good idea to give out awards as it is a form of recognition on the hardwork of addon makers who use their own time, effort and resources to create good addons FREE to the community. However there's always a flip side to every coin. 1. Are those who post here OBJECTIVE enough to select? 2. Are those who post here are really the user and not the addon maker under another nick or friends themselves? 3. On what basis or criteria do they judge? 4. Would those who give their addons willingly after spending so much effort and time and not receive votes ( not even a thanks) be discouraged to try another addon ( when in actual fact, one only gets better and better as one models on)? 5. Why must we always limit the community to only ONE position where there's so much room at the top? 6. Newbies and MP sites might choose the top addons, but ultimately, they will still download what they need for their gameplay, so why bother to have these 'awards'? Personally i dont give a damn about awards or recognition as i only create addons that i require for my own enjoyment, share it to those that want to try it out and only listen to constructive comments that will make my addon better so that i can enjoy it more. But i do believe that there some starting out who are put off by the domination of the addon making community by some who not only 'locked' up their files, they dont spend time in the help forum sections helping the community to grow. ( perhaps they are too busy creating even more spectacular addons?) If there are any awards, i would rather bequeth it to people like Col Klink, Brsseb, Bratty, kegatys, snyper, toadlife, team BAS and a few others who shared their knowledge and helped the community grow. There is no prize for creating a good addon. The real prize is respect and respect can only be gained by the ones who help others. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. I apologise if anyone is offended. There is no prize for creating a good addon. The real prize is respect and respect can only be gained by the ones who help others. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. I apologise if anyone is offended. All fair points, let me give you my views on them: 1. There is probably no such thing as a truly objective public poll, but I believe in most cases people here would vote for what they really like, not for a certain addon maker because he's their friend etc. 2. Anythings possible, but the more votes there are the less likely these factors are to determine a significant percentage of the vote (if I were to guesstimate, I would say something like 8 or 9 out of 10 votes in these kind of polls were legit) 3. Well, I guess just on how much they enjoy the addon - that's certainly how I picked them. This reflects factors like playability, how good an addon looks, how useful it is in missions, how accurate it is to the real thing etc. 4. Hazard of the trade, I'm afraid. There is always a chance that people are going to work really hard on an addon they think is very good, but the community just don't get that enthused about it. But there is no point pulling an ostrich - wouldn't addon makers rather know this than delude themselves that people love their addon? 5. I'm not sure I get your point on this one...but if you mean what I think you mean, that wasn't the point of this thread. The purpose of this thread was to get some community feedback about their favourite addons in certain categories, to try to get a rough idea of what should be included in possible universal addon packs for multiplay. In that case, there would certainly be room for more than one at the top - there would be a number of addons per category included, limited only by how big the addon packs are to be. Their might be room for ten different weapon packs for instance, or maybe only two. In either case, if the same weapon packs kept popping up in people's top three, then they would be more likely for inclusion than one that only got mentioned once... 6. Again, the point of this thread was to help get a feel of what people wanted in multiplay addon packs. Due to the nature of how addons are implemented in OFP (you can't download addons as you download a mission on a server), the best way to get more addon-friendly servers going is either one of two ways. A. For each server to compile their own list of what addons are to be used (and many already do this) or B. for the community to thrash out some kind of universal addon packs. The latter approach has the advantage that people writing missions using addons know in advance what addons are the most likely to be used on most servers. Now, AAE is probably going to make a fair part of community generated addon packs redundant - after all, it is a lot easier to stick with addons that BIS give the nod to than for the community to try and agree on what goes in addon packs. But I really don't understand how addon makers could be so insulted by such a simple thing as people saying what their fave addons are... Is there going to be the same reaction when AAE is officially launched? Are certain addon makers and mod teams going to cry "no fair" if their addons (or not enough of their addons) are included in the AAE prgram? Basically, this comes down to what is best for the community as a whole, or appeasing the egos of some addon makers - either that, or I'm missing the whole point

BraTTy 0 Posted July 1, 2003 I didn't get insulted , I contributed what I could.I agree users would like to know what they might want to download first. I contributed from a end user sense rather than a addon maker.Even tho I like making things ,I still play. I don't care if my addons dont make the list as I make what I want and what other people want is a different story. But If I did want to make a popular addon ,I believe a list would help as to what people like. I see how new OFP players can be,some don't even know how to install an addon. This list is for practical use from someone that hasnt read the entire forums and know of every addon out.And as there are so many addons out, which ones are worth downloading and of course none that mess up your computer would be on the list. Don't let it get to ya Major Fubar

sdoc 0 Posted July 6, 2003 this thread has been some sort of abandoned, until i posted my list, one month after the last reply from may... ... seems that i have triggered an avalanche. i don't think this list of addons is in any way complete, and in no way objective. those are oppinions. it is not a comptetion! but i have to disagree with fubar in one position: i don't think this will get the attention of any newbs. it will rather get the attention of other addon creators, and that's the reason i posted my personal list of favourites. in order to help other addon makers to recognise things they would probably have missed. some of the mentioned addons aren't very popular, but they can still give you some hints what to improve with your own addons, and perhaps some new ideas. i am sorry if some great addons and mod teams haven't been mentioned, but that doesn't mean we don't love their work too! (actually if the topic would have been most loved addons, my list would look slightly different :-) if you're an addon creator or mod member and don't agree with my opinion, and either want to know why i think an addon is one of the best, or you think yours is far better than the one i mentioned, contact me! i'll gladly check your addon, and i will tell you my detailed oppinion. Bluesman 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Sorry if this thread was too old (i forgot how many days was max). I just want to reply to those who thought this was a bad idea. I was without OFP for about 8 months before returning to it(had other tasks to do which kept me away). I thought these lists were a very good compilation on what to get. Yes I downloaded many other things too but imo this helped me find excellent stuff what I would have missed otherwise (remeber that not all these items are readilly listed on ofp.info). So a big thanx to whoever made these lists. I hope ofp.info goes through their addons at some point when they have free time and remove the buggy/unfinished ones.
