Sounds cool, but that depends on 2 people to take care of 1 wounded character. Sounds like too much of a hassle, and 2 people controlling a single stretcher online? Woo, talk about risky. Sounds more like a drunken backyard game. A Stretcher ride that dangerous can cause more injuries than it can help fix   ;)

This is the concept behind things like landmines. They're designed to wound, not kill, so you make 3 soldiers combat ineffective by wounding one (one is wounded, and two carry him back to the hospitals).

Dragging wounded is a great idea, adds more realism, and much more opportunity for players to interact. Players who can't hit the enemy get bored so they teamkill, if you could interact in ways other than using your gun I think it would gun down teamkilling.

You could also do what the germans did in Stalingrad which is drag the dead bodies around your position as sandbagging from enemy fire. sad_o.gif

I tried a to make a small script for OFP to carry people like you can in SEALs but it didn't work to well.

BTW What happens in multiplayer coops where you get wounded?  rock.gif  Without instant healing multiplayer games would take forever.

{edit}

BTW no disember ment or lot's of blood it causes lag and it would mean that OFP1 addons would all need to be redon and requireing a new imput system causeing total incompatibility with OFP 1 addons thier by takeing a way one of the features.

(Compatible with OFP 1 soldier addons.)

Great idea, but maybe it could be expanded beyond just carrying the wounded:

- Drag fuel drums to empty vehicles

- Drag ammo crates to more convenient positions

- Drag chairs, tables etc. to block doors in building etc.

- Drag open hangar doors for vehicles to enter/exit

- Drag sandbags/bodies etc. into place for cover

- Push small boulders down a hill at an enemy patrol

- Drag motorcyles or push cars/jeeps that have run out of fuel

- Drag a small bush or branch to obscure a mine/satchel that has been laid

Hmm, possibilites... rock.gifbiggrin_o.gif

Oh, that looks very nice, did you edit it yourself? Probably doesn´t work ingame anyway...or?

I just played around with "OFPanim" and I can confirm that this tool is pretty good! But I can't realize carrying a wounded comrade in the present OFP engine because it seems not to be possible to define a "codriver" or "cargo" position to the soldier/ man-class.

I'm sorry...

Those pics are nice!

What if the person you were carrying could fire their weapon in some limited fashion...sure carrying someone will slow you down but they can shoot at any baddies behind you smile_o.gif

Yes, but in a game "combat ineffective" means not getting to play the game. Im all for some good realsim but too much of it can drag down a game.

Sure, more elaborate wound system...cool. But keep in mind that taking 6 hours to die from a stomach wound isnt fun crazy_o.gif

If multiple players had to handle a wounded comrade they would not get to play the combat part of the game. After a little while you would never find ppl to help you when wounded because its too much hassle and it takes them away from the action too much. The ability to rescue a teammate has to be simple and hassle free. Or else ppl will not be interested in rescuing anybody because the reward is not worth the effort...so what if you die, you respawn on most maps anyway...

=HOW TO BE A HERO=

Step 1: Pick him up

Step 2: Carry to medic

Step 3: Rejoin combat

Nice and simple-like biggrin_o.gif

On the combat effective thing the NATO 5.56 bullet is intended to maim as well to put people out of action. arent we nice? Although some people deserve it.

I can't see the point of dragging a guy to evac chopper or whatever if hes lost from the battle anyway. I think Impavido is right when he says that players wont have much motivation for that since theyd miss the action. Maybe in SP campaign when the wounded might be back in next missions, but not in MP.

Nevertheless, carrying or dragging soldiers to a medic or med tent might be cool as long as its made simple enough.

When youre hit badly, would be nice having pain effects like blackouts, screen blinking red and the guy screaming like a madman.

The minigame for medics sounds great. In America's Army theres a comprehensive school for medics teaching them head tilts and chin lifts etc, but the actual healing is just simple "go to the soldier and press a button"-style. That sucks. Also add a point reward for medic when he succesfully heals a soldier please smile_o.gif

Carry the Wounded/deads

imagine a mission with.. no one left behind!

im that case the bodys should be carried & moved to a vehicle to return home.

..mission would only end if all soldiers (dead/alive) returned home!

i think that would be nice.. wink_o.gif

there are lots more ideas to use with this "carry the object"

i vote to exist in ofp2 smile_o.gif use imagination

and i think thats the idea of this post.

GO TEAM! wink_o.gif

I have wanted a war-game where you can carry wounded ever since I played rescue/evacuation missions on Hind95.

Escorting Hip helicopters to the front line and covering the troops until they are onboard. That was just awesome and a real kick.

EDIT: They could have made a sperate unit which consist of two medics and a stretch, only thing you need to do is to request a medivac and they will come with a chopper and evacuate those who has x amount of health left. Those who can walk or doesn't has serious injuries will either be patched up by the squad medic or they will walk on there own to the chopper whos doing a medivac.

Something like that could work.

Med and wounds are handled by TACEVENTS quite well. Get the heart pounding more frequent black outs till you die or a MEDIC comes to your aid. One lil twist to this is "Your Leg is Broken. Med evac to nearest Hospital." Then when healed at a med bldg your combat ready. and need transport back to the front. Assuming the EVAC Vech survives the trip in and out and back. ROFLMAO. All of the above is dooable in OFP1 with a ton of scripts. OFP2 should have this as part of the engine.

BUT!

Drag, Shove and Carry like Maj. Fubar suggested is fantastic.

Ever flip your jeep over on its side. smile_o.gif

However, STOP THE AI SEEING and FIRING THRU WALLS is my most feverent request!

I think the biggest problem has already been mentioned. It's nice to have all these features but how will it play. When I'm wounded now a lot of times in MP the medic won't heal me as it is. Now if he has to carry me for 10 minutes he's likely to just shoot me himself or just leave me. Also it's no fun having to sit doing nothing for 10 minutes as somebody carries you around.

I would like the idea of being able to do it but it has to be done in a way so it doesn't seriously hurt gameplay. In squad matches or Coop I think the full scope of what is being suggested works very well. But in public servers you might as well frag yourself because nobody is going to take themselves away from the action long enough to transport you back and everything. I think the idea of a medevac in those situations is great. But I just don't see the application on public servers. Impavido had it best. Carrying or drag the soldier to a medic and then that's it

Carrying is must, of course in public server it doesn´t work but that is not a good reason why it should be left out. Actually if you start thinking about public servers then it might be wise to cancel whole MP or make it just deathmach since the team work in publics are often...well screwed biggrin_o.gif

Yeah, to be honest playing MP in a public server can make you loose faith in humanity smile_o.gif

I think it's a good idea and in a clan match I'd actually play as a medic or medevac pilot/gunner. The problem is to not make it too complicated. Cause even in a clan match what happens if they take over your field hospital? Who wants to be the guy that stands at the tent and does nothing but wait? I guess you could balance that with AA at the hospital.

i like the idea of carrying things, wounded etc.. but imagine in mp a guys pick other by arm or what ever.. and he dont want.. could be very boring!

maybe people can be carryed or carry in certain contitions.

If we think to much in this subject it will be very complex

I hate the discussion about leaving out good realistic features because of game play reasons (arcade).

There´s some excellent ideas in this tread.

I think BIS should make it as realistic as possible if they have time and recourses to do so.

BIS was always god in making realism features switch on/off able.

So also the big MP crowd should be happy with this feature disabled or modified.

(I do not think organizing the evacuation of a wounded/dying comrade under time pressure and under enemy fire is boring. It would be one of those big steps forward in game / simulation history we are used to see from BIS)

Spy17 i think the same as you do smile_o.gif

i would love to have that in ofp2, more realism the better, that idea of modifed configs for MP servers was good too, i didnt tought about that tounge_o.gif

Spy17 there will always have to be consessions to gameplay. One thing is that getting wounded people out isn't like Hollywood movies. Often you lay there for a while. In an MP game I can assure you I would shoot anybody trying to move soldiers including medics. I would disregard any other troops and just focus on the medevac. Sure it might not be moral but there is no ICC in the gaming world smile_o.gif Now if you have to clear the area first what about the guy laying on the ground? Would you really like to lay there for 20 + minutes? I agree it would be fun to move people but we have to find some timely way of doing things

Sure it would be cool to carry the wounded...like five times or so. After that it probably will become either very unreal or just boring. That one scene from "Forrest Gump" comes to mind... biggrin_o.gif
