berghoff 11 Posted March 30, 2003 Man,Ofp's performence is lagging? when only a few enemy tanks are on the screen I get only ten frames! This is not happening!!! any ideas? options: 1200x1024x32 View: 900 Terrain: Normal Frames: 20..40 Detail:max
blackdog~ 0 Posted March 30, 2003 You have small RAM... You might have a slow processor. MAX detail really lags it to death, consider changing it to 'high' detail instead. Run dxdiag and then post your specs here.
Skunk Monkey 0 Posted March 31, 2003 Turn off Antialising, it really does make performance suffer for very little extra quality. I presume you have a 2Ghz 1024DDR machine with that 9600 and not a 1.4Ghz 256 Ram.

UberKreb 0 Posted April 2, 2003 Dang, you're having problems with OFP with a 9700 Pro? Hmm, I have a 2.4ghz, 512 RDRAM, Radeon 9700 Pro, and I rarely have problems with framerates. I have 4x AA, 16x AF, max detail, normal terrain, 1200x1024, etc. Do you have your display device set for Direct3D T&L, not Direct3D? I remember I was getting horrible framerates until I enabled T&L. MAsta_KFC 0 Posted April 2, 2003 Uberkreb, I dunno why, but when I play night missions with ofp and my 9700pro, the textures seem *REALLY* washed out, so much that the game is almost black and white. This is on a AMD2400+ 512 ddram Cat 3.2 dx9.0 Anyone else have this prob?

Mister Frag 0 Posted April 2, 2003 Any video card with DirectX Pixel Shader 1.0+ support shows mostly black-and-white graphics at night starting with OFP V1.20. That's by design, and a Really Cool Feature.

Loaded up the night missions i was tinkering with and thought *whoa*, driver problem. Thanks guys. EDIT: BTW Is there an directx option to disable Pixel Shader? Thanks<span id='postcolor'> Try running with the "Direct3D" renderer instead of "Direct3D with HW T&L" -- I'm not promising anything, but that may disable the use of pixel shaders. You'll also take a big hit in performance when you do that, however.

When you are driving in a car, you have white headlights (in most countries) lighting up the objects in front of you, which allows you to see fairly vibrant colors. The effect in OFP may not be perfect, but it is fairly accurate.
-iCeMaN- 0 Posted April 5, 2003 Try putting Detail down, it causes most of the lag. Or run DxDiag (DirectX Diagnosis) and post the specs under the System and Display tabs. -iCe-

MAsta_KFC 0 Posted April 14, 2003 This is not REALLY topic related, but after reading your specs, I have a general question. How does a Monitor refresh rate affect performance/graphics/enjoyment in a game? My Monitor only refreshed 60, if I got a monitor witha higher refresh rate, how does that affect my game play? Thanks. Thanks.<span id='postcolor'> Not at all. The gfx card doesn't render more or less frames wether you use a high or a low refresh rate. So set the refresh rate as high as possible (over 85Hz doesn't make much difference, but try not to get lower), as low refresh rates stress you eyes unnescessarily. -iCeMaN- 0 Posted April 14, 2003 It's not all based on your video card, just 'cause you got a ATI 9700 doesn't mean you got the best graphics in the world. You could have a slow processor or low RAM. If you have XP you should have atleast 256mb of RAM for good performance, and when it comes to OFP, 512. And also put down the detail in OFP, that's what usually brings down the performance, and plus, detail doesn't really make any dramatic difference in the game anyway. -iCe-
GoOB 0 Posted April 17, 2003 Sorry for bumping this thread but i have an idea to what the problem might be. ATI's products are more or less compatible depending on your system specs, OS and other fun little things. What you are experiencing is most likely the "stutter" issue, i have encounterd it sparsley on other ATI products (8500,9500) but not on my new card (9700pro) There is really nothing you can do about it until ATI releases the Cataclyst 3.3 drivers (those are said to fix all stutter complications and most texture incompabilities) And also the pixel-shaded night is the best thing that ever happned to me, it looks so realistic and beatiful when you are using your search lights at night... *goes back to playing with search-lights*
