The SAS are fairly good at fighting in arctic areas due to training with norwegian forces over here smile.gif

They are shite at skiing though and norwegian soldiers always have a laugh at them biggrin.gif

Difficult question to resolve on but I would say the SAS, because they are they best all round special forces unit, with the best reputation and expertise.

They rotate through different roles which keeps them 'fresh' and updated on new techniques as well as giving them a good all round skill base. Alot of other special forces units tend to concentrate on one particular aspect of SF warfare, which IMO is good but to have a SF soldier who is multi trained and experienced in many things makes them far superior to any units who specialise in one activity.

In any case most of the western SF units are cross training with each other on a regular basis, sharing information and techniques, which are constantly being refined. So to comment on who is the best between one unit and another is a little difficult to call.

Because they haven't been mentioned yet (no surprise though, really) and because I am a loyal Mother Canucker, I say JTF-2.

I dunno if they're the best, but they're damned good, pretty damned secretive, and I bet they can hold their own against the Scandies in the alpines.

They're another of the groups working in the mountains of Afghanistan. They were a big part of Operation Anaconda. smile.gif

I'm not saying marinejegere are the best - only that they probably are the best (together with FSK) units in the highly varied norwegian climate (especially the winterclimate) .

Frankly, I don't care who's the best. What's most important is if the unit can do the job sufficiently. The SAS train regularly with the Marinejegerkompani and rate them as excellent soldiers. But then again, most countries have specialised and highly skilled soldiers for different purposes - even the swedes biggrin.gif

How do you know US special forces are best trained?

I don't know who's best but I'll vote for SAS or SBS!

Lol. This thread is so pointless, I'm not going to participate smile.gif

If I was, I would have pointed out that for four consecutive years Swedish combat divers and costal rangers have won the NATO PFP excercises where all the big ones (SAS, Seals, Marines, Foregin Legion..) participate..( and yes brgnorway.. even the marinejegere biggrin.gif ).

That would have however been far from conclusive since it was done on our playing field - Scandinavian terrain and archipelago.

Yes. I would have liked a poll choice that said "I'm not qualified to answer, so who the heck knows!".

Say, shouldn't pointless threads be locked?! wow.giftounge.gif
