BBC is saying that it was 12 Americans and 4 British dead.<span id='postcolor'>

err, I've heard the exact opposite.  4 American crew, 12 British "Commandos".  Since it's a CH-46 I would say that's more likely.<span id='postcolor'>

BBC is reporting exact opposite. 12 Americans, 4 UKs.<span id='postcolor'>

Lol, I'm hearing off CNN that it involved 16 men, including British troops so thats pointing to the 4 aircrew being American.

I know the French are openly against the war, but I swear that when forces were being deployed to the Gulf I saw some news footage of a soldier firing a FAMAS in the Kuwaiti desert. I don't know of any other nation in the world who use the FAMAS so I'm assuming it's the FFL. Anyone have any comments?

Also, "Shock and Awe"confused.gif Wouldn't "phsycological operations" or something else along those lines sound a bit more inteligent?

Good luck to all those involved, but especially to the Australian SAS, 4RAR and all our other forces who are deployed to the Gulf. Lucky bastards get tax free pay!

Remember this - Only 1 out of every 2 or 3 people in Kuwait is actually a Kuwaiti. Nearly everyone else is from Egypt, India, Pakistan or the Philippines. It's very possible that this reporter was talking to a Pakistani. Can you tell the difference between a Paki and a Kuwaiti? I can't, and I lived over there for six months. Besides, all the Kuwaitis are probably living it up in the bars and casinos of Bahrain right now waiting for this all to be over.

I also never met a Kuwaiti that ever forgot the invasion. You can't forget - the roadside walls are covered in Kuwaiti and American flags. There are still entire towns ovet there that were so totally destroyed that they just abandoned them and build new towns a kilometer away. How can you forget something like that?<span id='postcolor'>

I stand corrected. I was refering to the 'light hearted' moment the Denoir refered to. As for Pakistani's, I wouldn't call them 'Pakis'. Its considered an nasty insult.

I didn't know that... I was just abbreviating. My apologies. I'll go edit that. In fact, since it has nothing to do with this topic at all I should probably just edit the whole dang thing.

From my BBC map, it looks like that pic could be either one of four palaces or the Baath Party HQ. All of these are located on the river bank.

It's not the presidential palace. The red square is the Baghdad presidential palace:

High rez picture

I figure out from the width of the bridge in the picture, the proximity of the road to the water that it's in the blue marked area.

I have however trouble matching the white silos seen on the left to anything on the satmap.

Iraq Confirms It Fired Missiles

This after denying they did.

Be interesting to see if they find the wreckage of the missiles and they do indeed turn out to be SCUD missiles...missiles illegal under resolutions, and Saddam denied having any.

Try it. Find the nearest Pakistani area, and call someone a 'Paki'. I hope you can run....

Sky News Australia (I think) is saying that an Abrams crewman said that they had engaged and destroyed two T-72s, and that on one of the OPs that were assaulted there were 4 Iraqi KIA. I guess the Iraqis aren't too keen on fighting it out yet.

ISnt it more that they have denied firing SCUD missiles? If they are Al Samoud or other theater missiles, they arent usning anything they arent allowed to.

I did get one laugh earlier when some it was reported that a US serviceman said that it looked like the kind of crate a SCUD would leave. How on earth could you tell? If they payload was of a similar size, you really couldnt tell the type of missile, could you?

Ted Koppel with the 3rd Infantry Div. stated that they are crossing the border now with "tanks". Those could be the ones.

put 2 T-72s and 1 Abrams on desert island and see who wins. wink.gif

denoir, try second bridge. watching east from west side of the bridge. there is a small white struture on east bank.

2 other places i've considering.

south of picture, there is a bridge from agricultural field at south to peninsul-ish place that stretches btw east and west.

south east of the picture, there is a small sand gathering in middle of river, where smoke is coming out.

Marine Helicopter Crash, 16 Killed.

The Chopper was a CH-46 Sea Knight. I guess those things have a problem with the whole "staying airborne" thing.

Marine Chopper Crash Kills 16 in Kuwait.

My prayers go out to the families of these brave British and American soldiers who died fighting so that we can sleep in comfort.

I see 3 or 4 bridges in the satellite picture that I don't see in the BDA picture, are you sure that's what we're looking at?
