Damn, Baghdad is huge! wow.gif The size of Stockholm is displayed for comparison in the upper right corner.

They better hope for an Iraqi surrender, since taking Baghdad will be a bloody mess, if possible at all without excesssive bombings.

Isn't it spelled with an H?

Or is it just in a different language.

Yep it´s also Bagdad in german. We tend to use our own languages in our tv news...

And it would totally different in original spelling as it is written in arab keys.

Even in Bagdad it´s not spelled Baghdad. Check google.

Nor in english. Strange. Anybody knows more ? Maybe a freedom gift ? biggrin.gif We donate a "h" to the iraqi people !! Freedom !

err, I've heard the exact opposite. 4 American crew, 12 British "Commandos". Since it's a CH-46 I would say that's more likely.

Unknown at this time. "Breaking news". It was returning from a mission and crashed inside Kuwaiti space.

I mentioned the tanks outside Basra before, and that the 1st Marine Div. was reportedly engaged with them. A reporter reported huge fireballs and explosions from Basra, and also reported the sound of bombers over head. I mentioned that it was possible that the marines were calling in air support. I was poo-pooed.

I watch streaming video and listen to the radio. But if I find sources about whatever I will post.

Like when a Ranger battalion deploys, it is independent of the 75th Ranger Regiment and instead is under the command of the regional HQ or the Joint Chiefs.<span id='postcolor'>

True.  If a MEU is on a typical deployment, it operates independently under the command of a Colonel.  The MEF's role is to coordinate the training and integration of the component units before deployment.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Hellfish6 @ Mar. 21 2003,00:31)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I guess if there's an MEF HQ in the area, the MEU is then subordinate to that MEF. I wasn't sure if that was the case or if it was attached to CENTCOM directly or not.<span id='postcolor'>

Sounds good to me!  But seriously.  A MEU is subordinate to a MEF, which is subordinate to the "combatant commander," which in the present case I'd interpret to mean General Franks/CENTCOM.

Semper Fi<span id='postcolor'>

Gotcha... thanks for clearing that up. smile.gif

Weathers not too hot, (Do not underestimate what sand can do to your rotors, plus your turbine blades) plus there are bad guys shooting at you. (Remember, quite a few of the helis that went down in Afghanistan were first reported as 'accidents', but 'corrected' later on.

Also, with the amount of flight hours thatare going to be put in,some A/C will be lost due to accidents. Take a look in the back of AFM, and see how many jets crash on normal exercises a month.

Edited because I just realized that it was off-topic and not productive. Instead, here's a pic of the 3rd Bn 15th Infantry (3rd Inf Div) on the "Berm" in Kuwait today. Nice variety of weapons. Could anyone identify that M203? Is it mounted on an M-16A3 or A4?

They aren't using USMC chopper pilots again are they confused.gif it's happened before and a big op failed - they only used them because the USMC was going to be left out too. Stupid prideful commanders mad.gif It could very well be the appauling weather atm with all the big dust storms. So BBC says 12 US 4 Brit and Fox says 12 Brit and 4 US not really surprising.

It's in Swedish.

I'm trying to figure out where exactly this picture was taken:

bagdadetta425.jpg

On this satellite map of Baghdad that everybody should have (16 MB). I called HQ for about the 50th time today but they told me kindly to piss off and stop bothering them because that they had better things to do then to be my private news service <!--emo&wow.gif Well, can't really blame them. I've called them about twice an hour the last 24 hours.

As for the downed heli, it's interesting although not conclusive. If it was an accident then it's understandable that they published the information. Another option is of course that it leaked against the will of the coalition press office. Why is this important? We are now exploring the ground rules of information flow that will be set for this conflict. It started off possibly bad today with the Iraqi missile attacks. If on the other hand it was shot down and they confirm it directly then it is a very positive sign and then there were probably no casualties earlier this morning.

Here we go, looks like 16 deaths, 12 US (Flight crew and marines) plus 4 UK soldiers.

Confimed by Pentagon.
