Not even when they fought against themselves in the civil war  wink.gif<span id='postcolor'>

They have won a few wars. Here's the complete Military History of France:

Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.

Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman."

Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots

Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

The Dutch War - Tied

War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War - Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.

War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."

French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.

The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!wink.gif due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

World War I  - Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States, Britain, and Canada. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by Allied forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

World War II - Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

War in Indochina - Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu

Algerian Rebellion - Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

War on Terrorism - France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.

Jaeger is a type of wool fabric, so no, I wouldn't say that it is the proper translation smile.gif

Ranger on the other hand translated is "kronojägare" and that's the translation officially used by the Swedish military when they bother to translate it.

Well, our airforce is feared, all 5 of the F16 we have !

JK wink.gif

I think it are about 90.

I think our minesweepers are good or at least getting the most combat experience from all other units.

I ve been an RTO ( in a CVRT ) in my days in the service and our Leopards were undergraded like hell.

Interesting. I noticed that the Finnish word (Jääkäri) for ranger/jaeger/whatever is translated "jaeger" at the Finnish Defence Forces website. Well, it wouldn't be the first time they screw up, they have translated "kranaattikonekivääri" (automatic grenade launcher, AGS-17 Plamya) as "grenade assault rifle". biggrin.gif

Damn, I thought the country where I live in got a small air force (you're neighbours up north just across the border).

Could be wrong but i guess the most seasoned "combat" veterans (fresh ones, not the 60+ ones) are the navy's frigate crews, or maybe it's them chairforce flyboys. I remembered a while ago when one of our F-16's shot down a serbian Mig-29 and it was then covered in the news here biggrin.gif . It was the first time in like 50 years that one of our fighters shot down an enemy plane.

Hehehe most things we do is securing certain places, dunno if there's a lot of fighting.

Well... Every little piece helps, even the smallest thing can make the difference smile.gif

btw: Is it true that G36 rifles used in foreign countries/war zones have to be destroyed after returning to Germany? Is it true that a damaged dishwasher from a frigate in the Mediterranean is transported home for repairs? Is it true that the Versorgungsamt delivers a Leo II MBT instead of paint to a naval unit because there was only one wrong number in the Versorgungsnummer? wink.gif

Maybe Saddam wants a war so half the American army will blow itself up. This way, Saddam'll just have to fight 51% of the US army!!!! Now we finally know it! We found his secret, no dangerous weapons, he's just acting suspicous so the US will attack!!!

THIS IS CLEAR EVIDENCE!!!

the Bundeswehr is having serious problems mainly due to overextension and shortfunding.

Ok - I should restrain myself from telling you all what we call "svenskehistorier" (as I'm sure you guessed - jokes about the swedish) . However, this is not a joke:

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">.....Vasa was to be the mightiest warship in the world, armed with 64 guns on two gundecks.

In 1628 the ship was ready. Sunday August 10 was the day of the Vasa's maiden voyage. The beaches around Stockholm were filled with spectators, among them foreign diplomats. The maiden voyage was to be an act of propaganda for the ambitious Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus.

The Vasa set sail and fired a salute. But only after a few minutes of sailing the ship began to heel over. She righted herself slightly - and heeled over again. Water started to gush in through the open gunports. And, to everyones horror and disbelief, the glorious and mighty warship suddenly sank!<span id='postcolor'>

I guess we norwegians are stupid after all considering our navy use swedish boats hehe.

Maybe it was sunk by norwegian terrorists?

Edit: Don't you think that the guy in the boat in the pic looks very norwegian?

Edit again: Sorry.. My fault.

It's now pretty obvious that it's Nils Holgersson
