Assault (CAN) 1 Posted February 21, 2003 First 20+ people die in a Chicago night club, now this: From the CBC, Nightclub fire kills 60+ </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> U.S. nightclub fire kills at least 60 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A fire broke out during a pyrotechnics display at a rock concert in a Rhode Island nightclub Thursday night, killing at least 60 people and injuring more than 150. It's the deadliest fire in the U.S. since 1995, when nearly 80 people were killed at the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Texas. <span id='postcolor'> From CNN Some unauthorized pyrotechincs were set off on stage which started a fire which consumed a crowded nightclub within 3 minutes. The whole thing was caught on tape from a guy inside, I just saw it on the news. Just horrible. Tyler
Die Alive 0 Posted February 21, 2003 I saw the interview of Jack Russell, and when the reporter told him there were (at the time) 24 deaths reported, the guy was freaked out. Also this morning, the local rock station played Burning down the House (who was that, Talking Heads? whatever...) just before the news headlines and the lead story was the fire at the "heavy metal concert of White Snake". As it turns out, it was Great White. I found that to be in bad taste (and I know bad taste.) -=Die Alive=-
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted February 22, 2003 Just an update: 96 people now confirmed dead: CNN </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">WEST WARWICK, Rhode Island (CNN) -- Seven of the 96 victims of a deadly nightclub fire have been identified, Gov. cam0flage 0 Posted February 22, 2003 From CNN: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Hall said the fast-moving fire, which started around 11 p.m., engulfed the wooden structure in less than three minutes.<span id='postcolor'> It must have been very flammable wood, as we know, usually wood burns relatively slow. ran 0 Posted February 22, 2003 a matter of cheap construction and cheap preparation i hope the owner will get arrested buildings don't catch on fire that easily
Supah 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Humzz i have been told that rules in the USA are not that strict in clubs, over here you arent allowed to have pyrotechnics without prior inspection and approval by the local fire department who come around to check anyway twice a month. And those inspections arent tests, they give advice. If you dont follow up with that or improve it in another way you get warned. then you get a ticket and if the situation isnt changed after that you may get shut down till you have. Col. Kurtz 0 Posted February 22, 2003 I think that you have to have a permit in the United States to use pyrotechnics too (according to the news over here in Australia) but the club did not a permit.
Supah 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Then he should be punished to the maximum extent of the law. Just saw the video on the news. the pyrotechnics reached up to the ceiling .... i mean man how stupid is that owner? Anyone with half a mind must know thats gonna go wrong. Longinius 1 Posted February 22, 2003 I am still amazed how much trust clubgoers put into the club, the management and their safety. Personally I always make a point of where the emergency exits are. The simple fact is that if things go wrong, you cant trust other people to get you out. You have to make sure you are doing everything you can yourself to stay alive. When are people going to learn this?

bn880 5 Posted February 22, 2003 It's a simple matter of this: greed especially on behalf of club owners. This club was forced to meet fire code regulations, so it was fine, the fact that it burned relatively quickly is widely accepted in the U.S. and Canada. Most buildings are matchboxes here, and that's the way it has to bo according to the population. ($$ For your info, the fire would have spread at about the same speed even if the bldg was mostly cement or brick, because of the drywall/plastic partitions, ceiling and props. The greed came in where the club owners did not care about allowing illegal pyrotechnics, as long as the money came in. The other deaths in Chicago, greed, locking exits is a greedy move, not having to guard the doors for people entering illegaly. MONEY BABY!!! MONEY Then there are the clubheads, they really are not concerned with safety when there are 2 -10 of their best and cooles friends around, I mean, if you said anything about safety, man, you would be so uptight, paranoid, and of course gay. And if you want you can take my word for it, the club owner where the band performed before is lying through his ass (err face), he could easily have stopped the pyro show from going on, but that would be unthinkable. FSPilot 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Those poor people. The first club accident (the stampede) got me kinda upset. Apparently Rev. Jesse Jackson fought for the club to remain open a while back. He said it was one "one of the few fine dining establishments in Chicago owned by African-Americans". I guess that gives them the right to ignore the rules.
