Bas releases, which format would you prefer?

Personally I prefer any format as long as it gets released... *cough* especially without hype

If I had to choose I'd say ZIP, you have easier control over where you place the files.

wow... think about all 56k owners, rar is a good solution, maybe add a link to download winrar in your site.

with a installer program they gotta make that and thats means it will take a few hours longer for us to get teh rangers

I prefer zip's because i have xp and you can open them without extracting, and with size it doesn't matter for me as i download them at work so i can't play with them until i get home anyway. Some might call it abusing the system, i call it abusing the system. But as long as the boss doesn't find out who cares.

P.s only 24 hours to go, shame i am in the uk so i will probably be asleep.

Zip

Even though Winrar ha better compression, I find using Zip files to be easier to use. Besides, every time I start Winrar, I get this annoying message saying:

"Please note that WinRAR is shareware.After a 40 day trial period you must either register or remove it from your computer."

I can still use it though.

I have XP so I can open Zips without extracting.

Please go with the *.rar compression. Man 6MB(!, that is an extra 45 minutes on my 56k. Sometimes even longer if the server is crap! So please, think about all the 56k peeps out there. Btw Evis, I believe you have a 56k too, so what do YOU prefer actually?

lol nut! i did the same! but would you mind if the file is lighter so poor equipped guys can download it quicker? i don't think so. it's a social matter because of the popularity of BAS. everyone is waiting for it, everyone want it, and it must be accessible for each of us

Unfortunatly i am working tomorrow any way , but i suppose you do have a point, however why not release them in zip, rar and exe? That way people could take there pick. Would it really take that much longer to release them?

The best way is to compress with *.rar and then make a readme.txt how to "unrar". Place the two files in a *.zip.

easier with xp... xp just open the zip file, the difference with other windows is the double_clic !! now we talk about time saving, and even maybe for some of us, money... the lighter the file is, the better it is for EVERYONE, i know i know, you'll have to open the yourself...damn it's so hard... so long...

Yeah RAR is fine also and WinRAR is a very good program, cuz like you said it does both ZIP and RAR files which is nice. Plus it's easy to use and has a friendly interface that's not too confusing or anything.

As a 56ker and a humble fan of BAS, I vote for rar. 6mb is quite a wait. I think it would nice of you to release as .rar and exe.

I don't know about you guys, but whenever I download a good addon in .exe, I run the prog, put the pbo in addons, and copy and zip the pbo to save space. No .exes wasting space in My Documents/OFP

RAR definately. As a dialup user I like everything to be as compressed as possible and RAR files are very good at that. And i never really trust .exe's. Although i know the people of BAS, its just a little thing i have.

Definitely whatever format has the best compression, and it looks like .RAR, so that gets my vote (dialup here as well). I would suggest that anyone who doesn't have WinRAR download it.

ZIPS, or RAR, please.

EXE are too prone to problems and often result in you having to move PBOs around to where you want them...
