Acecube 0 Posted December 18, 2002 Great Addon! PLEASE bring back the old sight (reticle) for the gunner. it should be easy to improve its quality and it would help so much for realism. especially if the scale takes reference of the bullet drop!!! out

Blake 0 Posted December 19, 2002 ...as you can see, OFP scale is definately wrong - on BMP-2 & BMP-1 of course I urge you NOT to make it any bigger 'to fit ofp scale' - they made the mistake not you. Why repeat it? Besides smaller size is an advantage against anti-tank weapons.
Major Fubar 0 Posted December 19, 2002 I agree that it is BIS who is offscale...but...for the sake of gameplay, I feel it would be better to match it to the size of vehicles already ingame, otherwise it will look a bit silly on the battlefield with them. If you put it next to the BRDM-2 scout car you see the same problem. It just looks really wierd and tiny compared to the BRDM. miles teg 1 Posted December 19, 2002 Oh by the way, Vikingo... I wanted to add that I also would prefer to see the old sites again. I prefered those. The ones you used are anti-aircraft gun sites and not appropriate for the BTR-70. While it can engage aircraft in real life, I'm fairly certain it uses traditional tank style optics with mil markings for range and elevation. Also I think the Spetsnaz crew isn't realistic. I know that it has airborne markings on it, but I think that Spetsnaz normally do not make up the crew of BRDM's. I'd prefer to see the regular Russian soldiers that have helmets on their heads. Andrew B 0 Posted December 19, 2002 I dissagree with resizing the btr-70. Why not just wait 'til someone makes to-scale BMP's and a BRDM? A lot of BIS's stuff was improperly scaled I'm finding. Like all the rifles. It's pretty easy to fix though, if you make your own. Each square of the grid in O2 is one square meter. I guess BIS can't really be blamed. I mean, how many game programmers outside the US have the opportunity to actually handle real military type rifles?

I think weapons are not so off-scale than vehicles.
Mr ThunderMakeR 0 Posted December 19, 2002 The BMP and other BIS stuff is out of scale to what? the soldiers? If everything is out of scale compared to the soldier maybe its just the soldier that is out of scale and everything else is correct lol. The fact is when you put it in a mission it looks a little bit ridiculous because its just so tiny . Try it yourself, just make a simple convoy mission with the BTR in there and youll see what i mean.

Then you'll need to resize every other vehicle as well to get everything in proper proportion. It's simply not going to happen. You'd have to tell the guy who made the T72/T90 mods to resize all his tanks also. Maybe if enough people did that it'll happen, but so far it hasn't happened and I seriously doubt it will happen unless someone makes a big pack that includes properly sized vehicles. Major Fubar 0 Posted December 20, 2002 Can someone put a zoom on the turret optics view, as all other ingame vehicles have a zoom.
Andrew B 0 Posted December 20, 2002 Well, I've always been one to want to correct a problem rather than just slapping on a quick fix… even if it takes a while. If you look at things in oxygen, you'll notice that the soldiers are all about 6ft tall. This is in scale with everything else in the game, except for a few of the vehicles. The scale is pretty simple. A grid square is one square meter. BIS probably just didn't have/couldn't afford the time to painstakingly check the scale of each object. I only wish BIS could get the time to fix this. It should only take about five minutes per vehicle. Not that I think they will, as it's only cosmetic. All you would have to do is select the entire vehicle, make the whole thing smaller by dragging with ctrl+shift, check the grid to see what the length and height have been changed to, and then compare that with the known data concerning the size of the vehicle (available online at any number of military info sites). Blake, I'm not sure what the laws are like over there (where BIS is), but I don't think they had any of those rifles sitting in their laps when they modeled them. When I modeled my AR-180B, I found that having it right in front of me helped to give me an idea of how it should be proportioned in comparison with the soldiers in the game. I also found that, when I finished my rifle, it acted as a yardstick to help me determine how the scales and proportions of the other weapons in the game should be. Some examples would be: 1) The receiver on the M-16 is too big, while the stock and barrel/front handguards are too short, 2) the AK-74 is too small, and has some other small problems with it besides just scale, 3) the magazines on Fliper's M4's were too long plus a couple of other small inaccuracies, etc. But this is beside the main point I wanted to get across. I'm suggesting we start making the vehicles in the proper scale now because, as Miles Teg seemed to me to indicate, this isn't going to happen all at once. So, if any of you want to see proper scaling in OPF vehicles, we'd better start now; progressively. Otherwise, it simply won't happen because everyone will be sitting around waiting for it to happen all at once. To sum things up, it's going to happen progressively, or not at all. Simply decide if it's something you really want or not.
